Only around 4,000 there to watch it if I remember rightly . The football they played in the first few minutes to go 2 up was very impressive , with pinpoint passes from one side of the pitch to the other .

Yes, I remember reading about him winning the award in 1975 and thinking I had not heard of him. I found out years later reading Flashing Blade that he was at the Lane in that 1972 friendly. I didnt know of any of the Kiev players but the team were very good and well organised especially in the 1st half.

The 71/72 season was an outlier for our attendances. It sticks out like a sore thumb amongst quite a few seasons before & after where average attendances were in the low 20k. Including our very successful 74/75 season.

71/72 'twas bloody Cardiff at BDTBL again!

What most on here wont know is we went about 20 seasons never getting beyond the 4th round. Absolutely shocking. It was DB in a replay at the Goldstone that did it. We'd not won an away replay in light years and the man did it. A 4th round win. Went mental with delight. Was on the IoW at the time staying with ma. Next round was that glorious defeat at Norwich 3-2?

Not really looked back since except when CW here!

I’m (just) too young to remember the 91/92 9th place finish, and definitely too young for the 74/75 one, which makes it a real kick in the bollocks that the best season (finishing position wise) we’ve had in recent times was robbed from us in terms of actually being there to see it.

God knows when the next time we finish top half of the premier league will be!
