There have been a few threads about 50 years ago today, because it was on that day that we beat Wet Sham 3-2 with TC's "Quality Goal by a Quality Player".

That was my favourite game in my favourite season - after that game we were 8th, but only 2 points off second and we finished the season 6th, still only 2 points off Liverpool in 2nd and 4 behind Derby who won the title. The South Stand was about finished and we really thought that we were "Going to Europe next Season" (with TC rather than Sander Berge!)

The next season to be as good as 74/75 was probably Wilder's season in 2019/20 when we finished 9th - tragically, because of bloody Covid, the last game we could attend was beating Norwich on March 7th, when we were "Going to Europe next Season with Sander Berge"! As a result, we missed out on watching us put 3 past both Spurs and Chelsea at an empty Bramall Lane.

The point of this post is that after both of those great seasons we had 2 of my worst seasons ever, finishing rock bottom and knowing we were relegated weeks before the end of the season. (ironically, we won 4 of our last 6 in 75/76 and still finished nearly 10 points from safety!).

Graph 1 (normalised for number of games and 3 point wins) below shows the contrast between the 2 pairs of consecutive seasons each time, but also the strange similarity between the 2 pairs of seasons.

Wilder always emphasises that the players should absolutely enjoy successes to the full as, for most in football, success is a rare breed.

We've won an incredible 25 games and drawn 7 of our 38 games this season. If we go up, next season will probably be shite - but go up or stay down, this has been one of the best.

Has this post got a point to it? Also why end it with facist slogan? Whats that got to do with anything!?

True. There’s always two sides to every story. Unfortunately people blindly follow western media on the Ukraine war. Believing the narrative of good vs evil, which is complete bullshit.
And how close are you to what's happening and the negotiations that are supposedly taking place.
Be interesting to know where you get your information from.

The same could be said of any conflict. Picking a side can be down to a natural loyalty, the greater good or failing that lesser of two evils.

I don’t need to know what’s happening with negotiations. I understand history. I understand how Ukraine was created and the issues this has on many people lives. Some good, some bad. Much like Palestine it has deep rooted issues. I wouldn’t put “free Palestine” on a Sheffield United forum either

Enjoy this thread whilst you can folks. Now that they shout sweaty stuff has started, it will be shut down soon.

You must be right - with the well-known Fascist governments of Norway, Sweden and Denmark supporting Ukraine in their fight with Russia, who is supported by the progressive Liberal Democracies of Iran, North Korea and China.

Remind me, when is the next election in the Ukraine and who is running as the opposition?

And while you’re at it remind him what a nice chap Putin is, with open elections free for all to stand in. And never ever even just a little bit poisony or invadey.

I’m (just) too young to remember the 91/92 9th place finish, and definitely too young for the 74/75 one, which makes it a real kick in the bollocks that the best season (finishing position wise) we’ve had in recent times was robbed from us in terms of actually being there to see it.

God knows when the next time we finish top half of the premier league will be!

I’ve never made a comment to anything unrelated to Sheffield United before you nobcheese so fuck right off

Same night, same thread

Sorry I should have said before today! I’ve got every right to pull people up that want to come out with dumb slogans like slava Ukraini. People are dying in a war which the Ukrainian president wants to prolong and you want a conversation about semantics. Unbelievable.

Mad how the one person saying “keep that talk off the forum” is actually talking about it the most. Stop talking about it and move on. This thread is clearly just about enjoying the good times when you can. The final message was just a sign off not intended to provoke a response.
