I would much rather Brooks play for Wales than England.

Even though I am English and am proud to be English, I am not proud of our international team. It's full of overpaid primadonnas who don't deserve to be in the team.

The reason I would rather Brooks play for Wales than England is because of the fact that he will be playing in a team under a manager that have heart, have ambition and also have a tendency to play young players.

That is Wilder's philosophy, so it can only be a good thing that he will be playing for a team with the same mindset as at United.

English football is dead, I hope Brooksy smashes it for Wales. (Of course I don't want prem clubs to scout him/want to buy him, but i'm looking at the bigger picture and it can only help him improve whilst he still is at the club)

It will also massively increase his transfer value!!

Wales, as think it'd be funny seeing him coming back and tearing teams apart with a Joe Ledley style beard. He's gonna want one of those beards.

Good question.

Initially you would assume he’d prefer to play for the more glamorous England
But I would expect that Brooks and his family have thought long and hard about this.

Brooks is already receiving a lot of support and encouragement on the Cardiff City forum, they rate him.
And you would think the Wales manager has spoken to him explaining he’ll have more fun and enjoyment playing for Wales
And to be fair they’re not a bad international team. Think they are currently ranked above England.

I think it bodes well regards Brooks staying with us.
If he was a cocky massively ambitious glory hunter, he’d wait and hope England come calling
But it seems he’s down to earth and would rather play in a team where he’s valued and wanted.
Hopefully it looks like he puts playing football and personal happiness above chasing as much fame and fortune as possible. He’d be able to command more financially playing for England instead of Wales but it seems Brooks isn’t greedy.
This is such a refreshing change for a youngster, like Gareth Bale he seems modest and grounded.

What an opportunity for Brooks to train and possibly play alongside Gareth Bale. Can only assist his development and hopefully we will benefit.

Don't think he would've had that opportunity with England.

You don't think the likes of Ramsey are over paid primadonnas then?

I love the way the media portrays Wales as the plucky little underdogs, like they're Luxembourg or someone with a couple of part timers who'll play in the Euros then go back to being a postman, when their star player plays for Real Madrid.

Sorry, I'm English and from a purely footballing perspective, fuck Wales.

If he was a glory hunter he'd wait for England? One semi-final in my entire life time.

Wales every time.

Partially because I'm half-Welsh on me dad's side (as the name might suggest). Very proud of my Welsh heritage and I've still got family down near Swansea (Pontardawe, specifically).

From a football point of view he's more likely to get playing time, the football they play is nowhere near as dull as England's, and quite frankly there's more passion and pride in Robson-Kanu's left bollock than in the whole England squad. I fucking hate watching England and I have done for years. It's so, so dull and the players rarely look like they can be arsed.

I personally think that Brooks knows that if he stays how he is then he will end up earning a fuck ton of money. He may have learnt from previous failed "young starlets"

Snap assessment of the two in terms of his development:

Manager - Wales
Players - Wales
Style of play - Wales
Attitude - Wales
Best Chance of Tournament Experience - Wales

Very happy for him to play for Wales.

That explains why your hair is so curly :)

Hang on a bit.
Brooks has played a handful of very promising games at Championship level and there's zero chance he would get called up for England at the moment.
In terms of practicalities, there's no choice to be made and no guarantee he'll ever be good enough to play for England.
He's got Welsh blood and the opportunity is there now to be taken.

After this, Southgate will be lucky if anybody wants to play for him. WARNING! This link does NOT contain flashing images or content that may upset some people. But it is from the Daily Mail. You Have Been Warned. :D

Gareth Southgate..say no more,

Couldnt care less about England, I was cheering on Wales in the Euros over my own country.

What a complete load of bollocks!

- Wales team have a load of premier league players on big money that would fit into the "overpaid primadonna" description.
- Wales have ambition? They qualify for a tournament for the first time in 50 odd years and now they are ambitious? How are they getting on in World Cup qualification?
- Why is English football dead exactly? Yet Wales are all of a sudden alive and kicking?

Brooks has chosen Wales for the simple reason that he will get more chances to play. But with the emergence of Ben Woodburn, he might still struggle for game time.

The warning is genuinely appreciated.

Wales hadn't qualified for a tournament for 50 years before the Euros and it's entirely possible they won't qualify for another one in Brooks's whole career. How can that be a good move? Unless of course he believes he's not good enough to ever make the England team, which is fine (although personally I still don't think I'd do it as an Englishman).

Brooksy would never have got a look-in with the England set-up.

It doesn't matter how well you're playing or if you're in arse-ripping form ........ if you don't play for the big "favourite" Clubs you've got no chance !!

Southgate is just as bad as many of his ineffective predecessors in that respect o_O

Its one of the reasons that England always fall short of what they need to do ..... :(

The reason why I included England is because once he plays for Wales, we can no longer play for England so it's the decision of "do i pick wales now, or wait for England if the chance came calling?"

I think the England team is run mainly for the benefit of the sponsors. Hence, the same big names that become 'undroppable' even when they're shite. Watching Rooney last night I thought the best thing he's done for England is to retire, because otherwise Southgate would have been under huge pressure to pick him, despite him now being in serious decline.

The FA isn't fit for purpose.

I don't believe Rooney wanted to retire yet. More a case of , Wayne you won't be getting picked for the next squad, or any other after that, I think it best to safe face, if you just make a statement that your retiring.Imo.
