I read that as Edna, and thought it was going to be about someone's Granny.

Not a signing to set the pulses racing but as ever judge him on his performances.

So far we seem to shopping in the bargain bin.

He'd know Samir Carruthers from his Villa days - both of them young reserve team players trying to break into the first team, round about 2012/2013/2014.

He's 26 not 24, in fact he'd be 27 by the time he'd kick a ball in anger for us. Quality checking is clearly upto scratch in the article.

I love this ruthless approach. You could be forgiven for thinking Wilder would take a couple of weeks break now this incredible season is over, but no. One signing done and another close.

From what I've read and heard he sounds a good player, and on a free there is very little risk. I don't think it's a sign that we aren't willing to spend money, I think it's a sign that we are a club being run properly and acting quickly to secure players for good value. If we hang around then we will miss the chance to sign good players on free transfers.

Seems like an extremely astute signing to me in every way. Highly rated and age, versatility, recent form and cost are all favourable.

It does seem like we're looking at cheaper options at the moment, but the cheaper ones are probably easier to sign, so it makes sense to get them in ASAP to get things in place and give ourselves less work to do over the summer, especially in June and July when it gets really busy.

I understand the comments saying we are shopping in the cheap section.

When B'mouth went up they signed all the good players out of contract from leagues below.

We look to have a very highly rated player who fits into our system, gaffer knows him and knows how good he is. I'm excited by this signing.

Always makes me laugh that some fans think FREE transfers are free.

What the players agent does is simply add a good percentage of any notional transfer fee on to the players salary demand. Hence why Slatan Ibrahimovich is reportedly on £350K a week ( free transfer) where as Paul Pogba (world record transfer) is on £150K a week.

We haven't paid a fee for Stevens but we've more than doubled his wage.
Pompey are saying they have no chance of even getting close to the salary we've offered him.

Well I managed to work out he isn't going to be playing for nothing.

But not having to pay a fee (i.e a free transfer) for him does represent good value. He's also a league 2 player, whilst he will be on a good wage he isn't going to be anything like our highest paid player so the deal does represent very good value.

maybe they should rename them then

How the hell are we going to create a song with the words 'Edna Stevens' ???

I wish CW and AK would think about the fans for a change

Oh, my old Aunty Edna
She's shit at playing dee-fence
Cos she's gone to t'bingo
And she's not Edna Stevens.

I hope he comes I do.

And RIP Aunty Edna. Loved you, but you were a shit fullback:D

If he turned out to great we could name the Bramall Lane End after him. Just imagine the 'Enda End' ;)

Exactly the sort of player we should be signing. Highly rated from the lower leagues, should be looking at collecting a few more. Hungry, rated as the best in their position and more importantly won't cost the world. Very little risk but potentially a lot of reward. Graham Carey another one.

There are some seriously decent players in Leagues One and Two as we know from been down in League One. Many go onto the Prem. Carey and Stevens are definitely two worth signing especially as their freebies and represent great value. Yes we don't know whether they'll come off but the way both of their respective clubs fans speak about the two players tells me their worth signing. Wilder will have done his homework, and helped by numerous scouting visits no doubt from the likes of Paul Mitchell.

top player, two very good seasons and obiously destined for Ireland call up.

Reporting he is Irish, thought he was a cockney?

Sure he's an Eastenda.
