Well done to all the blades who stayed at the end and continued singing songs and clapping the team. They didnt deserve our cheers but we did it anyway. We deserve alot better. But we did our club proud. Apprently whoever was on sky sports said they'd seen nothing like the support we showed at the end. UTB FTO

I think it was very dignified and I was pleased to see at least some of the Blades players looking absolutely gutted.

It was almost spoilt by some of the younger Barnsley players, including Mellis who were giving it the big time Charlie as they were going down the tunnel. I'm unsure as to whether the stewards did as some particularly irate Blades fans suggested to "drag the smarmy little twats outside so I can give them something to smile about".

I think the Barnsley players were a little awe struck, seeing a crowd and all that, bless 'em.

Though the team didn't deserve it, the reception by the fans at the end did us enormous credit. Much better than a riot / people crying etc.

It was the metal birds in the sky that really got them giddy I think.

I had to laugh at a comment on Twitter: "Best get the game over before the floodlights come on. They'll accuse us of witchcraft".

You could tell whom wanted to stay at the club just from their reaction. Morgan looked distraught but still acted as a captain shaking hands telling them to keep their heads up. Weve really missed him this season.

Luke Steele - How bad is he? 6 fingers and the ball still slipped through.....:)

We indeed showed a great deal of dignity.

If we can do that when it hurts what could we do if we ever won anything?

UP THE BLADES!

I'd think the Dingles players were just confused; they're using to seeing people with two heads at DingleLand so the lack of heads in the crowd threw them off a bit.

It's just as well the big screen is out of site of the visiting fans.

Could you imagine the shock of the dingles if they saw their players on the pitch and the screen simultaneously?.

The atmosphere at the end of the game was fantastic. I was quite surprised actually.

It was a class act from the Blades fans at the end and anybody who was waiting for or expecting a barrage of abuse probably couldn't help but join in. Gary Sinclair seemed genuinely choked up by it as he passed on the thanks of the players as they trudged off. As embarrassed as I am by my club, the players and the board right now, I have never been prouder to be a Blade. Never. It gave me hope that with the superb core support we do have that we can do it next year. With support as superb as ours, surely one day we will get some luck?

Compare and contrast this to the Barnsley fans. Credit to them for making a lot of noise throughout (empty vessels make the most noise) but I counted three occasions when I heard the word Barnsley in a song. They are a small time club with such an inferiority complex that it is unbelievable. I live in Barnsley - not a Barnsley lad though - and the chip on these people's shoulders about Sheffield is staggering. As a town, it will never move on whilst they are obsessed with all things Sheffield like they are. Other than their FA Cup win in 1912 and their promotion in 1997, I don't think they're ever had a better moment as a football club. Shame. I would laugh my socks off if next season we have P SHEFFIELD UNITED and R BARNSLEY in the league tables.

Well done Blades... It just wasn't for me!

I have to admit that I walked down the Kop (as I invariably have done this season) during time added on and I was moved by the way that the Kop stood and chanted.

I don't make a lot of negative noises during the games or on here, i offer my support, but I couldn't stand and applaud or sing at the end of the game today.

Credit to those that stayed behind, but by the final whistle I just turned my back and walked.

I'll be there next season, but I wasn't about to applaud the failures of our club today.

Very honest Swiss and a totally respectable opinion.
I would imagine that the majority of the players felt extremely embarassed by what they witnessed from the Kop. Extremely dignified support.

I think at times our support has been criticised from inside the club, so today those that stayed were indeed very dignified. Well done to all those Blades.

Didn't see this post, put this to another that needs merging with this on.

Today was a day to be proud to be a Blade.

The fans were loud and dignified and the faces were smiling in Bar 27 afterwards. What a way to conduct ourselves.

Well done Blades fans, have a pat on the back, you deserve it.

I was amongst those who stayed behind at the end. The most moving and impressive thing about it was how many of us there were. I was proud of the Blades today and although I understand some may have felt it wasn't appropriate or deserved, I cannot commend those who did highly enough. If you were there singing/clapping or whatever you did the club proud.

As an aside from relegation, I thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's game.

Last season Sheffield Wednesday fans accepted relegation by invading the pitch and fighting with Crystal Palace fans. Sheffield United fans showed their class yesterday. Things may have been different if we had the chance to stay up, but the Blades support showed their dignity in accepting relegation. We might be down at their level next season in footballing terms, but in degrees of class they will never be in our league.

Well said sv. The same thing crossed my mind and I couldn't agree more.

Proud to be a Blade

Yesterday made me so proud to call myself a Blade. Not because of the Club. Not because of the Management. Not because of the Team. But because of the FANS.
I ve sung the Geasy Chip Butty on so many grounds. I ve sung it at the old Wembley. Ive sung it at the new Wembley. I ve sung it at Old trafford. I ve sung it at many other grounds. And of course Ive sung it at the Lane.
But yesterday at the start of the match when we began singing it, it was one of those special occasions that gave me goosepimples and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
And then at the end of the match when we all knew we were finally down. The response from the Kop was magnificent. The way they responded showed passion beyond the realm of normal fans.

Thanks Bladesmen. Thank you one and all.

Thats why im pround to be a Blade.

Compare and contrast the scenes with those at Leeds and Wendy. Each and every one of us, whichever side of the divide you reside on, deserve better.

Indeed so dignified and a proud moment for the fans.

I do hope it makes the powers that be, management team and the players have an idea of what being a Blade is all about.

I think a few on that pitch and others behind the scenes may have been reflecting how they have done this season.

UP THE BLADES!

Very sad to see us go down, but the fans made me very proud.

Not many clubs would give the players a reception like they got, as SF some of them really need to reflect on their performances this season. Barnsley tried their best to shout us down but I just think it pulled the fans together more, our passion came back and it made me fall in love with this club a little more, after felling the blues and swallowing the bitter pill I can't wait to be part of that kind of crowd again. My vocal cords felt the strain after yesterday and the Kop was a truly great place to be.

UP THE BLADES!

thought we showed true class ,proud to be a blade for life .

To heck with the board not even their bungling could tarnish the fans support for the club.
That singing after it was known that we were down was absolutely incredible.
Every Blade should give themself a big pat on the back that was total pride not many clubs can boast such fan support under such conditions.

Great thread and post(s) - spot on.

Wait for some miserable sod to come on and spoil it

Fantastic fans and I'm proud to be a Blade - even a mugged one lol

Couldn't agree more with the sentiments on this thread. Sometimes after reading or the moaning and complaining on here I forget that the majority of fans truly support the team and yesterday showed it. A class above. Well done Blades.
