End of fan power

I used to be a huge proponent of fan power.

Then I realised what caliber of fan we have at Sheffield United and concluded that I wouldn't put most of the them in charge of a lemonade stand, let alone a football club, bollocks to that.

I don't care who's in charge now, just don't fuck about with the colours, name or stadium or I'll key your fucking Merc.

They wouldn't have turned on Wilder.

Fans at Bramall Lane would have probably helped get us a few more points and we wouldn't be certainties to go down.
I think you may have your Saturday morning rose tinted specs on, or you sit a long way away from me. People were calling for his head 4 games in (you may recall it wasn't the best of starts in 2016). We'll never know what would have happened with fans in the ground, but if it was like this, he would have been long gone by now.

The whole crowd wouldn't have turned on Wilder

If some had then it would have turned nasty and they'd have been some fighting

It's certainly having an identity, and not being treated as a money-making asset by foreign owners.
How much money has he earned from us?
And why does them being foreign make a difference? An English owner could fleece us.
Which billionaire Sheffielder have you got in mind as an alternative? I'm a Blade and own a business, but don't have any money, just a big covid overdraft, I could give it a go maybe.

Laurel and Hardy. Towed in a hole.
Boy, oh boy! For the first time in our lives, we're a success.

This is us Blades. Get there and smash lot up. Never been any different.

Ah, the glory days of fan power when we successfully opposed the appointment of unpopular piggy Danny Wilson, prevented the sale of Deane and Fjortoft, Booed Warnock into oblivion...will we ever yield such power again?

That's the sort of scenario where managers get sacked. Very poor results, players not performing, manager unable to change things or inspire- we have that now. Add angry fans scrapping in the stands and it's a recipe for a sacking.

I really hope that the first game back for fans there’s 90 minutes of “He’s one of our own” and that he knows about it. Fuck the board.

Appreciate the sentiment, but not sure that would do much to help the new manager, especially if we are getting tonked by Reading or someone similar 🙁

I don’t care about the new manager really, I’m sure they’ll understand. The affinity between Wilder and the fans is something that I don’t think has been seen elsewhere in football. The fans need to make a point.

I agree with part of that, but being pragmatic I would rather the new guy feels like he has the fanbase behind him. It won't be like it was of course.

Your right we wouldn’t have turned on Wilder but there would have been no guarantees that we wouldn’t have turned on the board

I have no apprehension about The Prince starting an Emperor style regime and tearing the heart out of the club.

Firstly, I don't think he is the type but who are we to know yet.

Secondly and more importantly, if he did, then I would be straight down to Sheffield FC, Stocksbridge PS and Hallam FC for season tickets.

On the note of Fan influence in football clubs.

I implore everybody with passion for football to watch a documentary recently aired on BT Sport called "Ours". It gives a superb insight into how important fans/communities are to their local clubs, how commercialisation of football is disengaging fans and offers hope for the future of the game by demonstrating proof that fans (not customers) are the heartbeat.

I don't think any one would have turned on anyone this season. I think the vast majority of fans appreciate what's gone on over the last 4years and it was a minor miracle we got to the Premier League with this squad of players in the first place.

Yeah, there would have grumblings and groans and the usual twats who slag players off even on a good day would have been louder. But I don't think things would have turned nasty against board or manager.

Next season might be different. But who knows the Prince might turn out to be a genius (I have serious doubts about that though).

Fan power probably end in English football a long long time ago. The only place it probably is still a thing is Germany with with how they structure their clubs at boardroom level.

Maybe your right, I personally would hate my team to go plastic, but then again being an old man now, my day has gone and maybe change is the only way foreword.
I've still got my memories and it's out of our hands anyway now, so maybe Sheffield FC is the future what ever will be will be........ :tumbleweed:
I lost my love for the club when the cricket ground was built over.........bloody vandals

We can do that the game after. A point needs to be made to the muppets in charge that sacking the best thing that’s happened to the club in years is unacceptable. Shoes off won’t do anything, social media abuse will only get his back up. 25k fans singing Wilder’s name and giving him the send off he deserves might.

I’ll fully back a new manager (as long as they’re not shit).

The players would’ve definitely been booed off at half and full time after the majority of this season’s performances. I don’t think there would’ve been much, if any Wilder out chants.

If he has gone, one of the saddest parts is how it's fizzled out like this. We needed to be able to let him know how we still feel , regardless of the situation. Some of that is gee-ing the players on with support and some stick.
But mostly a thank you for what he's done come what may.
We can't treat the new guy like a rebound girlfriend though. He has a big job to do and get our club where we all want it.

We don't know if he's been sacked. There too many unknowns to start burning witches.

Ha... They get booed off if they win sometimes. So that's nowt new

Any Wilder out chant would have been quickly drowned out by far louder pro Wilder chants.

Fair enough, but all this is assuming that it is a sacking. There were lots of strong rumours that Chris handed in his notice after Palace and they wouldn't take it. The Prince then made a point of publically backing him for next season.

I am not cheerleading for the Prince here, but just saying that none of us really know what has gone off and how hard he has tried to keep Chris. Ultimately he is the owner, so should have some say on how things are run.

So I agree that he should know how the supporters feel, but I think that judgement should be made when the circumstances are a bit clearer. By the time we get back in there, they probably will be.

However it’s happened, Wilder has either been sacked or has felt the need to come to a ‘mutual’ understanding. If he’s talking compensation then he hasn’t walked willingly.

I’d also take Wilder’s judgment over PA’s on what is in the best interest of the club.

If it turns out I’m wrong and I’ve jumped the gun then apologies will be offered.

Go and watch Sheffield FC if you ain’t happy with modern football, big clubs just aren’t owned by fans, managed by fans etc. and that isn’t going to change.

If you don’t like that fact, well it’s tough shit unfortunately.
But, the Big Club that are the current holders of the Champions League ARE Fan Owned
