An immense player and character.

Was reading a thread on here a few days ago. One poster was talking about the Oldham game where we lost from being 2-0 up. It mentioned the back four and how shite it was. It had Egan in it. I checked, had forgotten/ not registered, he had been on loan before.
Of course, given my age, I might have dreamt all this or made it up.

Yes they were 2 of the others. Just the other centre half to remember and I can’t recall who that was for the life of me. Ridiculous really when they were such valuable players. Anyone help me who the last one was because I feel really guilty for not being able to remember

Yes Egan was on loan to us briefly. Can’t remember too much about that spell other than thinking he was an average fill in. To be fair he was only a young un then

Egan didn't play in the Oldham game. He played in the 3-2 defeat away to...........Walsall. Obviously.

Could be an interesting new thread.

Players You Never Knew Played Together

John Egan and James Beattie
Billy Sharp and Adrian Littlejohn

I seem to remember that Leon Clarke had already played with half our team before we even signed him.

Coutts at Preston, Fleck at Coventry, Duffy at Scunthorpe and so on and so forth.

Gordon Cowans and Paul Reed?

With the number of clubs Leon has had, I’m amazed it’s only half the team!

jags and brian deane

We all remember the pigs '£20m defence', our back line must be no less than £80m. Dare say more.
Be good to find out the shots per game ratio our opponents up to date have had against other teams compared to when they’ve played us..

i would value our back 5 at no less than £120 million.. they are immense.

wouldn’t want to see any of them leave, for their sake as well as ours. Previously average players but together in this system, wouldn’t swap them for any back 5.

I’d fear for them if they went anywhere else and that team didn’t play our system the players might not succeed.

I love them,I’d actually let them
Gangbang me,, that’s if they were actually interested in a 48 year old balding man

A young Franz Beckenbauer would have looked shit at the side of Matt Hill, Johnny Ertl and Andy Taylor.

Altgough if I remember rightly Matt Hill had a worldly away at Brentford when we won 1-0. Was pissed though at the time so might have been wrong.

You must have been pissed.

Hill is one of the players with the most appearances for us who never scored a goal.

Egan is a great player and seems a really likable and intelligent guy. An absolute rock and definitely one of the best I've seen in the 20 odd years that I've been going to games. Linking in with the discussion on this week's BladesPod, he has all the attributes that Morgan did but is more finessed. I hope we have him for a very long time, but if he continues the way he is then we may struggle to keep him here.

John Egan is the closest player I've seen to Paul McGrath since...…………...well...……….Paul McGrath. Unruffled, solid, a tremendous reader of the game and just does the simple things brilliantly. Makes defending look easy. As good a purchase as Wilder has made IMHO.

That quote you recall fuerstenberger was mine, written in August 2017 I think. The point I was making was that the back four against Walsall was Ertl - Egan - Hill - Taylor which was never going to be good enough to win a game of football in the third tier. I wasn't calling out Egan in particular; it was more the make up of the entire back line.

The other point I was making was that it was the implosion against Oldham from 2-0 up which left us in that position. If memory serves, Lowton got sent off after getting a second booking after scuffling with the Oldham players trying to get the ball out of the net following their first. Maguire then got a straight red in the last minute for bringing ex-pig Kuqi down in the area; Kuqi score the winner from the resulting penalty.

I have a feeling that Oldham game was also the end of Lescinel Jean-Francois - meaning that we had to change three of the back four for Walsall.
