We've spoken about this before and we agree that things were always going to blow up due to Wilder's previous spell. I agree that opinions on it are subjective.

What I don't agree with is the patronising assumption that because many fans aren't sure about Wilder in general, they can't help but irrationally spout crap about him at every opportunity. You can dislike the bloke and criticise his managerial decisions without making things up or abusing him or his players. Why shouldn't we try to hold ourselves to a higher standard?

I've never claimed to be a classy bloke, but apologise regardless.
We have talked about it before, and I’m always happy to do so with you because your posts are generally thoughtful & reasoned. That’s why I was a bit surprised at the tone and language you used, but I guess emotions are running high during what is a tense time. I’m usually the one to hurl insults at simpletons on here, you’re generally a bit better than that 😁.

I take your point that some fans will criticise Wilder at any opportunity, whether it’s deserved or not. But the other side of that coin is that there are fans who push back on any criticism of him, even when the criticism is valid and justified, and they get themselves into some ridiculous contortions in the process.

But that’s the problem isn’t it. He divides us & he always will. At some point we need to move on from that for the longer term good of the club. That time will come, it’s just a question of when.

Problem is the atmosphere hasn't been great at the lane all season, and last night wasn't much better.

First 5-10 minutes it looked like we might get a decent atmosphere going, and then it started to fall flat and not long after, some fans started to get hostile towards some of the players, especially when Millwall scored.

And that hostility carried on all the way to full time.

And TBF, Wilder didn't lay into the fan base in his press conference on Monday, he called out a small minority of fans (mainly on social media) who were giving abuse to the players, which isn't warranted.
Fair comment. I guess its down to the style of play? Scrapping 1-0 vs high energy attacking football like the Coventry game. Fans need a spark

That's one of the issue for me now. The first time round 100% of the fans were behind Wilder, all the way, even up to the point where he walked. Since he's returned there's always been a division and, results aside, he's not winning many back due to his dross, boring football and his arrogance and interviews like the ones he's done this week.

He's damaged his legacy since he's returned. I don't think there are any fans willing him to fail, but there are many who are rightfully concerned about the way this season may drain away, about his poor record for signing expensive dross in the Premier League who either leave on a free or at a significant loss, and about his ability to manage in the Premier League given he's had no plan B all season and can't get a consistent run of good performances out of the team that HE has built.

I used to think Hecky was a carbon copy poor man's Wilder, but I'm now starting to think vice versa. At least Hecky carried himself with dignity and class. I was not a fan of his managerial style and lack of tactical nuance, but I'll always admire the way Hecky conducted himself, even after the board threw him under the bus before the season started.

For someone who talks about getting fans onside, it wasn't the best way to phrase things. If Hamer or one of our players was genuinely getting direct abuse then yes call it out but don't do it so it leads to headlines like it did.
Exactly noticed what’s happened since then
