Who watches the full pressers? I doubt many of our fans do. They will see the headline on Sky Sports of him calling fans a disgrace though.
People should be allowed to call Hamer a cunt then and Wilder should keep his gob shut about it?

The headlines will have made people think Wilder was talking about them. The press are not going to say Wilder singles out "a fan" or whatever. He must have some self awareness of what the press would do with that.
Presumably why the media person advised him not to go down the route he went, because they knew what the headline would be

How do you expect fans to make an atmosphere with an abysmal performance last night against Millwall?
Going on, we won't get promotion and will be knocked out of the playoffs.

Just use your head. Why would a manager have a go at the wider fanbase because of a few nobheads? It isnt difficult to gauge. Unfortunately some people are gullible and just believe sensationalist clickbait headlines.

"A few fans/some fans/those fans that did x" is not the same as "fans".

Still he must have known what the headlines would be and as Prestwich just said he was advised not to go down that path.

Very few people ever read beyond headlines and that goes with most things.

There was more to the sandwich headlines but no one cared what else Wilder said about the ref.

And you must understand that had he dodged the question by spouting a load of BS, the players that got abused would feel like the abuse was acceptable and the manager didn't have their back.

Simpleton fans will always attack the manager and players regardless, as this thread demonstrates. He probably thought, "those that care about the truth will listen/read it and understand. Those that don't will find another deranged, made up narrative to attack us for anyway. Fuck it."

If you want to blame Wilder for the shit atmosphere last night (despite it being identical to the majority this season), you show which bracket of fan you are in.

Earlier in the season it was, "the atmosphere is shit because Wilder made us shit in the PL before and we're not enthusiastic about going back". Then it was "the atmosphere is shit because Wilder makes us play shit football". Now it's this.

I said Wilder was partly the reason for the poor atmosphere last night. Anyone who did read just the headlines will think he was talking about them even if they were wrong for thinking that.

The atmosphere was great I thought against Coventry FYI.

I thought the atmosphere at Coventry was ok, but we'll agree to disagree.

Thanks for arguing in a decent fashion even though we're all pissed off.

It was quiet on the motorway and roads around the ground, it was quiet outside 20 mins before kick-off, it was quiet on the concourse, (got a sausage roll in less than a minute, no queues) it was quiet in the Westfield and BLUT.

It is half term so i suppose there could be some away on holiday but even so, it was largely dead!

I thought the fans got a bit of an atmosphere going at times, but it’s always going to end up flat with a poor performance.

There isn’t a set of fans in the world that will create a decent atmosphere when their team puts in a performance like we witnessed tonight.
Yes, apart from the set piece songs, banners, scarves and colourful mosaics before kick off. Most grounds can be very quiet or even very critical if their team were playing shite at home. Even the most lauded atmospheres like Liverpool, Newcastle, West Ham and Leeds can turn toxic very quickly if things aren’t going their way. So on balance BDTBL is quite level headed when you consider the shite we’ve been served up over the years.

From like 1 or 2 fans. I don't think the entire away support on Saturday were giving the players stick.
Exactly, nobody I know that was down there heard or saw anything
He hasn't got a problem with the fans, the problem is where it always is when it gets too much for him.......His head.

He's showing signs that he's cracked again, and rather than shutting up he makes a big thing out nothing.

Poor Old Ian Porterfield must be turning in his grave, he had to withstand a pitch invasion of people who actually wanted to hurt him

The owners should wake up. If he acts the mardy arse and lays into the very people who create the atmosphere, well, don’t be surprised if they a) save their money or b) leave before the end. It’s theatre and if the promoter behaves like a cock and it’s a shit show expect boos and departures
Problem is the atmosphere hasn't been great at the lane all season, and last night wasn't much better.

First 5-10 minutes it looked like we might get a decent atmosphere going, and then it started to fall flat and not long after, some fans started to get hostile towards some of the players, especially when Millwall scored.

And that hostility carried on all the way to full time.

And TBF, Wilder didn't lay into the fan base in his press conference on Monday, he called out a small minority of fans (mainly on social media) who were giving abuse to the players, which isn't warranted.

True, I have not seen anyone verify this abuse directed at Hamer?

Well calling fans a disgrace as a headliner in the press pre match wasn’t the best move.
He didn't call the majority of fans a disgrace, he called out a minority of them for abusing his players, mainly on social media and very likely on here as well.

At the end of the day, if that minority of fans want to heap abuse on players when they lose a game, they shouldn't be crying when Wilder turns around and calls them out for doing exactly that.

Didn’t help Millwall turning us around always kills the atmosphere 2nd half, once we failed to equalise before half time I feared that was it.
Wilder once tried this against us and we battered Boro 4-1. Hecky managed to kick the other way first half and get the players to produce, maybe Wilder should ask him for advice.

Exactly, we have won games kicking the other way. We are the home team and we have fans above the away end anyway.

It is quiet at BL because the football is boring and doesnt get fans off their seats. Add to that the nerves of end of season promotion games and you have an atmopshere like last night.

The truth of the matter is that the fans were split on whether Wilder should come back to the club which is why I cautioned against it at the time. For quite a lot of fans the events of 20/21 put question marks against him and he isn’t entirely trusted. Other fans are simply put off by his personality. There are no rights or wrongs in any of that, it’s about opinions and just what it is. It was always going to blow up as soon as something looked as if it might go wrong, and here we are. Even if we are promoted it will happen again next season.

Classy of you to refer to “simpleton fans” though.

We've spoken about this before and we agree that things were always going to blow up due to Wilder's previous spell. I agree that opinions on it are subjective.

What I don't agree with is the patronising assumption that because many fans aren't sure about Wilder in general, they can't help but irrationally spout crap about him at every opportunity. You can dislike the bloke and criticise his managerial decisions without making things up or abusing him or his players. Why shouldn't we try to hold ourselves to a higher standard?

I've never claimed to be a classy bloke, but apologise regardless.

You could feel it before the game even started, only 25k there, their early goal just killed any hope of an atmosphere and a second turgid performance in a row lead to no one being arsed.

It's school half-term, there are loads who sit near me who are away for a week (or two, in some cases).

Also, how much was a pay on the day ticket?

Any reason the club don't do the deals on buying 3 or 4 home games as a package any more?

I think it’s a case of we’ve seen this movie before isn’t it . We are predictable. So we can all imagine how this is going to play out in the end . Im not arsed about going up . I am arsed about watching shite in a library

Probably had something to do with the manager slagging the fans off pre match.

A few empty seats on the south stand and elsewhere.
I honestly think doing that actually caused a divide

For someone who talks about getting fans onside, it wasn't the best way to phrase things. If Hamer or one of our players was genuinely getting direct abuse then yes call it out but don't do it so it leads to headlines like it did.
