I really hope this isn't true. My favourite Blades player & the one who enabled us to dictate games & rise back up to the level we want to be at. There have been attempts to replace him before & he has seen them off, surely he deserves a chance to do that again this season.

Be gutted if the Duff leaves before playing even a minute in the Prem for us.
Been my favourite player to watch over the last three years and someone who has been absolutely integral and pivotal to the way we played at our best.
Fully deserves a shot at the top after working so hard to get there.

Those 2 goals against ROVRUM last season spring to mind, different but showing his qualities.

I hope this is wrong but Pete O'Rourke is usually spot on.

If it's right then it wouldn't surprise me if it's due to Wilder and Duffy falling out. They don't seem to have the best relationship.

Going into the PL with no Coutts is bad enough, no Duffy too would feel very wrong.

And we'd be playing a risky game. Who says any of his replacements will adapt to our system well enough?

I could see Duffy being the sort of character not being happy at not having the chance to play and preferring to move on to get game time.

Hoping it is not true as he's been a great servant to the club, but all things must pass.

Wow, I'm hoping this isn't true.
Actually that will help him get a club, he will get a pay off and would probably be willing to take a big drop in his wages.
This is not a first for us paul Stanclffe had been a good player and captain for us ( 2 promotions under Bassett ) he was soon out of the 1st team picture after promotion to 1st div.
Being honest with players is what good man management is all about.

Why would he leave his new PL contract having finally got to the top just because he won’t necessaril have a contract in 12 months?

He could smash it and get another year. He could sit on the bench and easily get a loan move in January. He could be a bit part player and go for nothing next year, bumping up his list of suitors. We could get relegated and need him.

Leaving now makes no sense to either party unless they’ve fallen out.

File under Believe When I See It.

I think it would be a mistake to let him go this season but at the end of his contract I think that would be time to depart. Even if his contribution is just small cameos he could be crucial in keeping us up.

I doubt he'd be in any hurry to move sooner given no one will match his wages. I can't imagine any 'one last payday' will match a year's wages here.

Sunday League thinking.

Absolutely. If CW has told him he’s not going to feature that much then he may want to finish his career at a club that will play him frequently. Better that than CW bullshit him, tell him he’s going to play a lot then leave him on the bench.

would be complete madness to let him go , maybe in Jan if he is not performing and others have bedded in well but not now - we have no idea how the newbies will settle and do in our team and system

how many games over the past 2 /3 years has Duffy been key to our great play ?
love seeing the guy play and imo can still do a very important job for us , wether that is for 60 or 20 or even just 10 mins a game

, please don't let this be true

If we let him go without a fee and he gets a 2 year deal he could do very well out of it. I get the impression he just wants to play games and hasn’t been given any guarantees that he will with us

I made clear how much I rate Duffy earlier in this thread , but I can see why we wouldn’t offer another contract despite him having a role to play this season. Maybe Wilder is trying to do right by him by letting him make an informed decision on his future now while his stock is high.

Either play a part this season and move on next year or try to get a good long term contract and regular football somewhere else. I’d like to think he would have a go with us next season but he has history of seeking regular football over league status and money.

Sunday League thinking.

To me he's one of our players who clearly does have the ability to play in the Premier League. Doubt there's a better pure footballer in our squad.
If it's just about age, why not get rid of Sharp as well? Never played top level, getting on a bit etc, etc.
Surely part of what we've all enjoyed is the journey and those players who've really earned it.

Jake Wright gets 3 years out of sentiment but Duffy doesn't get anything after getting us promoted...... yeah, that seems totally fair.
Don't see your logic here hes been told hes not getting a new contract the rest his down to him , still a squad player

Surely his desire to play PL football would outweigh any unhappiness over (understandably) not being offered a longer contract?

Sheffield United have told promotion hero Mark Duffy he can find a new club this window after refusing to offer him a new deal, Football Insider understands.

This.

It's difficult to argue that we're not at our free flowing best when Duffy is on the pitch.

However, we haven't really had a quality replacement in his position over the last three years, now we have Luke Freeman and Callum Robinson.

If we didn't have Mark Duffy we wouldn't be in the Premier League. I'd love him to stay, as I think he still has a lot to offer, but I get the stance we have. I just hope the club does right by him.

If anybody deserves a shot at the Premier League it's Duffy. For the last 3 years he has been a massive player for us , when Duffy plays well we play well . I think it would be a big shame to let him go under any circumstances.

Sharp is the captain and looks a lot fitter than Duffy. What are Duffy’s stats from pre season? How do they compare with Billy’s?

If I was Duffy I would see whats around come January. If not playing for the Blades then a loan out to Barnsley or Rotherham with the view of a two year contract. Nice finish in my opinion.

Well here we are in deepest, darkest S2.

We’re in the Premiership now. We scream for quality new signings yet can’t accept the replacement of our Bladey favourites. Silly parochial Sunday League thinking like ‘deserves a shot...’. 🤮🤮🤮

Are we to play 15 every fucking week? Do you want to stay in the Premiership or make every game a testimonial for long-serving faithful old servants? Sadly, I know the answer for some of you. Talk about the owners lacking ambition? Have a look in the mirror.

I said some time ago, to the usual Bladey derision, that neither Duffy nor Sharp would start more than a dozen games next season. Bonkers Bladey Blades scream with righteous indignation on behalf of their favourite one minute then demand Maupay, McBurnie et al the next. Only...(you know the rest).

As I’ve said before, Sharp may well have a vital but limited role, Kevin Phillips or Trevor Francis style. Duffy, I think not.

We’re moving on Bladey Blades. Evolving, progressing. Either stay in your Shoreham Street caves whinging or come out and enjoy it.
