Football insider claiming a “source close to the players situation” has said he’s been told he can leave.

I truely dispise these lazy, unimaginative, online shit slingers, and never believe anything they come out with. Yet am now worried there might be something in it 😭

#BladesAnxiety

I find it hard to believe that he has been told he can go. The only worry is that Peter O' Rourke is very well connected, he used to work for Sky and was always bang on the money with transfers etc. So it could be true sadly.

Duffy won't be the only one who is 'shocked' either if there is truth in this. I will be gutted personally, my favourite player to watch in the Wilder era so far. I think the lad is a genius.

He is 33 years of age, he was only able to play a limited amount of time last season and we have moved to a higher level.
I can see him doing a job this season in the premiership in a cameo role but next season he will in my opinion offer very little and will be replaced on a permanent basis by any one of Morrison, freeman or mcgoldrick

Might hang about till deadline day or January to see how the opportunity unfolds to play or make the bench ....

Looks like we are going slightly different this term ..so with the signings we've made can't really see him getting much game time ...

For the last few years he's contributed, like all have , he should be allowed to leave for a nominal fee if that's the way it's going to go ..

IMO it would be a big mistake to let him leave now. If anything he can be a beacon to the new CAM's in the squad of how to play the role in our system.

Plus there's a host of new challenges this coming season, it would only serve to rock the boat even more. A steady head off the bench who knows the players and the way we play could be crucial when we get to squeaky bum time. Plus CW would end up looking like a troll and a bit of a bastard if he let him go now, considering right after promotion he was waxing lyrical about the Duffy story and how poetic it will be for Duffy turning out at Anfield next season.

Personally I'd leave it alone until January and see how well the new players have bedded in.

Not sure if anyone else saw it, but there was some social media video of a United running session in Portugal where Duffy finished a very distant last, I think even Clarke beat him. This might be when the decision was made.

That being said, I wanted Luke Freeman to pick every bit of knowledge about the position he plays before he went, and it really is an artform and the key to our formation

I'd love him to stay. I suppose if the squad is limited to 25 players and we've just signed 3 players that can play in the 'number 10' role; then the die may already be cast :(

He'll get plenty of time on the pitch for us and will at least be a useful impact sub.

After working his way up to the PL like he has from where he's come from he'd be mad to leave.

He's going nowhere.
Probably doing him a favour really.Club not going to offer him a new deal so when his contract runs out he will be a free agent but going on for 35.
He could get a club who would offer him a 2 year deal
which would solve his future for 2 years.Stay with blades and play a bit part? is that any good to him really.
Hes not a natural athlete like Jags ( his stats may have slipped ) so moving on now might be best for him.
Hes been a great player for us and could even surprise Wilder and co ( could be a carrot to drive him on ) will be sorry to see him go but Coutts moved on and got a div 1 club perhaps Duffy could get a similar deal.

What he did at Swillsboro' will live long in the memory. I'd like to think he'd be really desperate to prove what he can do given this top flight opportunity finally at this late stage in his career but he did look off the pace in the Betis friendly and 'in Wilder we trust'. He must have recently seen something he doesn't like. If Duffy leaves, he leaves with the biggest GLTTL I've ever abbreviated.

I'd still want to see a Duffy who can only do 60 minutes in the match day squad, he's always seemed unable to keep up his performances for a full game (which is probably genetic) but given what he can do in 5 seconds I'd prefer him around to picking up an inconsequential amount of money for him.

Doubt he has anything to offer next season and he looking to secure his future, otherwise assume we were prepared to let his contract run down this season
As silent says, if you want to progress no room for sentiment

He’s been told he’s not getting a new contract and if he wants to find a new club we won’t stand in his way. I know his dad.
This sounds like the true position so he can stay for this season if he wants and hopefully get some playing time in the PL. But at his age we are not going to give him another year which would take him through to age 35? Seems reasonable to me. It will be easier for him to find another club now rather than wait until the end of this season but he has the option if he wants to do that.
Having said it seems that he has been written off several times in the last two seasons and other younger players like Dowell have come in and we have not been anything like as good as when Duff plays. There have been question marks as to whether he has the stamina for 90 minutes but from recollection at the end of last season he was playing the whole game on quite a few occasions. Who is to say he won't see off L Freeman and anybody else. Ravel is completely unproven and I for one am not relying on him to play very much. If he did get properly fit and firing on all cylinders then he would surely be able to play the Duff role but he has a long way to go. He hasn't even been in the match day squad yet let alone been on the pitch. I hope Duff stays at least until January and has a chance to play PL football. He deserves that. I can still see him coming on for cameos with 20 minutes to go if we needed to change things or someone else was having an off day.

Jake Wright gets 3 years out of sentiment but Duffy doesn't get anything after getting us promoted...... yeah, that seems totally fair.

I imagine they are on very different wages and perhaps Jake Wright gives us a lot behind the scenes.

Looking at the players coming int the midfield, it's going to be a very busy midfield , and Duffy isn't getting any younger, .
I was half expecting him or fleck to be going , I'm glad out of the two if it is Dufy, though he's been a good servent to us

I'm really sorry he's going. He's been absolutely brilliant for the club, and a lovely player to watch. Some of his goals have been fantastic. At the very least I'd have liked to have seen us offer him a 6 month contract rather than let him loose with almost no notice. Let's hope the club is being reasonable to him and recognising his great contribution.

On the other hand I don't suppose there's much room for emotion if you want to do the best thing for the club. Decisions like this must be very hard for footie managers.

Thank you Mark Duffy, and lets hope you get a good move.
