Ted Hemsley on the right for sure. He went on to miss the decisive penalty in that Watney Cup final v Bristol Rovers.

How come whenever you stick a photo of a player on the end of a lorry we always lose on TV?
 
TC lived in Dronfield at the time - up towards the Common and Ted might have too. He certainly has strong links to the town having had the bookies at the White Swan for decades. No idea about the third though. Len Badger and Geoff Salmons had connections, but it doesn't look like them to me.

Dearden on left and Hemsley on right. Eddy had just joined us that summer (the photo was taken in mid July and I think he joined us a week or two later) . His first touch of the ball as a Blade player was to put away our 2nd in the penalty shoot out in the Watney Cup final at Bristol Rovers. I think the rules of the competition allowed any unused sub to take part in the penalty shootout. I do not remember Eddy coming on as sub before the end of extra time and I remember Blackpool's manager, Bob Stokoe, saying that Peterborough's unused sub shouldnt have taken part in the penalty shootout in the first round.

I remember going to Dronfield Gala 2 or 3 years earlier with my Dad...TC and Woody were there with 3 Wendy players in Dronfield Park...I got their autographs...not the 3 Wendy players,i can't even remember who they were...maybe Prendergast was one of them.

Will ask my uncle at a funeral this afternoon. Have always known the place as Cliffe Park since the 1970s. The other big park in Dronfield is Sindelfingen park.

Great picture! I'll show this to me mum. She would've been living in Dronfield at this time, although she'd have been about six at the time that was taken.

You are thinking of Green Acres pub on the corner of Green Lane and Stonelow Road. It is now an Indian restaurant

Green Acres. Thanks. Did Gary Sinclair have it for a while? Although I didn't go in very often I always thought it was closer to the park. Was it popular in the 1970's with bikers and the heavy metal crowd?

I didnt go to the Green Acres until the 1980s. Yes, Gary Sinclair owned the place when it became a restaurant, he owned the Greyhound too. Not sure about now.
 
I’ve never been to Dronfield,how remis of me. Is it Derbyshire or gods own country?

Always been Cliffe Park since the grounds were left to the town by the doctor who lived in Cliffe House. It used to be the gardens of the house on the corner of Calleywhite Lane and Green Lane that is now the old folks home. I suppose it was like the Sheaf Inn on Bramall Lane in the past and owned by some steel bod. Useless fact for the unknowing - three fifths of the UK's railway tracks were made from the Bessemers on Calleywhite Lane.

Despite the evil intentions of the Empire of Yorkshire, Dronfield is still in God's Chosen County (they are all God's Own Counties if you go in for that kind of thing - but Derbyshire is surely "Chosen by God" to stand above all others with it's landscape, history and people! :)). The thieving bastards stole Totley round to Norton in the 30s - despite what the people there wanted - but they'll get no more!!!!

I was only commenting on this last week on another thread. I suspect I went to this with my mum and dad as my auntie and uncle lived in Coal Aston. I remember going for two or three years before they moved. I have no recollection of the float but maybe it had a subliminal effect.

Depends who you ask but in reality it's a pretty good mix, wouldn't like to say 50/50 but not a million miles off. The Vic pub is the only real blades boozer and even that has plenty of owls. There are no Wednesday pubs.
