Dowell

I don't think it's a Wilder/Knill thing. Dowell was very good at Forest before us.

He'll be a good player. I just don't think he can play a central attacking midfield role right now. An easy way of looking at it is that he's much closer to a Brooks than a Duffy. Very talented, able to glide past players with the ball at his feet, and chip in with the odd goal. But you wouldn't have every attack going through him. You might think he's a central attacking midfielder, but he's not. As with Brooks, right now he's much better playing off a striker or on the wing.

“ so your telling me the centre backs won’t be in the box for me to pass to?”

He’s clearly not a bad player. new team, new system and probably gets extra stick for being ex forest.

I never actually saw very much in him. He was alright, but he did look like a passenger a lot of the time.

A very adequate footballer who will be absolutely okay for some alright teams for the next ten years.

That header against West Brom was fucking beautiful though.

Derby were a mess last night. None of their players looked good in anyway. Hard to blame Dowell for that.

Whenever he was on the ball he had no options.

How Marriott isn't stsrting for them baffles me. We dodged a bloody bullett with waghorn

Marriott is working back from injury S15 - i should know, it's all i hear living down here.

Dowell did alright for us but felt he needed a preseason with the squad, like he’s had at Derby, before we saw him settle into the side.

It will take time for Dowell to make an impact in that side. They’re not a good bunch of players. Keogh, Huddlestone and Waghorn as their spine... jeez

As for the comparisons with Mount, never going to be the same player.

I’m not actually sure where his best position is, probably a deeper role like the Fleck role would be better for him eventually, just not now

Dowell only ever looked good in our counter attacking system away from home. His forward transition game is his best attribute. He doesn't have the physical attributes or ability on the ball to play in a slow possession team ala Duffy. Marriott is by far Derby's best player. His lack of game time last season was hard to fathom.

I was never a big Dowell fan, occasional flashes of brilliance but was too leightweight and gave the ball away too often and too easily. would have been a waste of a shirt in the Prem for me.
