Looking back I was a bit harsh on him in my comments, he got on the ball much more than Woodburn ever did and tried to make things happen.

Should we start him next game in place of the fading Duffy? It’s a big call, in what is effectively a make or break fixture for autos, the fixtures have fell a bit bad, if the next game was home to Bolton instead of away to Norwich it would be a no brainier to slip him into the Duffy role.

We need something to pep the midfield up, but is next week the time to gamble.. not sure.

I think there could be a chance it's Dowell and Coutts in for either Duffy and McG or Duffy and Fleck.

I know we never go 1 up top. But we got overrun 2nd half today in midfield and an extra player in there might be what's required?

Duffy fading?

Fleck has faded completely in comparison, Norwood is not pulling any trees up either.

Need a fully fit Coutts back in that midfield in my opinion.

“Fully fit Coutts”

I wonder if we will ever see that again.

Anyway it’s not an option next week, Fleck has been off the pace I agree, but I don’t think Dowell and Duffy alongside Norwood is the answer, we would get cut open like a hot knife through butter with that selection.

The two most important positions in the team that make us tick are the Duffy and Norwood roles. Unfortunately both are also the most inconsistent.

Thought Dowell looked encouraging; flashes, I grant you, but it was hardly ideal circumstances. He tried to make things happen and didnt hide. Some of it didnt come off, but lets give him a few weeks training/game time with the rest of the players tuning in to each others runs/movement etc (same for Madine for that matter). Lets not forget, if he was the finished article, he wouldnt be here. Why do we send players out on loan instead of playing them ourselves or releasing them? Because we think that they could one day be good enough for us, but arent currently. They need to go away, get game time and learn from mistakes and errors, whilst not making them in our own first team. Well thats exactly why Everton sent him here. Just like we’re doing with Tyler Smith at Doncaster.

Dowell will be a good ‘un. And Duffys far from done.

There aren't a lot of games left. Wilder can't leave it too long to bring Dowell (and Madine) into the starting 11 if others are out of form. There can be no letting someone have 5 bad games before taking them out of the team. Not at this stage, in these circumstances. Some decisive management is needed with team selection, by pre-empting players' dips in form.

I'd be tempted to play Dowell and Madine next week. But in a game like that I'd have some doubts about Dowell playing based on the defensive side of the game. Duffy will be better at that.

Such a shame Duffy can’t last 90 mins.

It’s an odd one because it does make us predictable as such 60-70 mins Duffy will come off using up one sub up so we really do need to take advantage of his presence in the first half.

I’m not so certain Coutts will ever regain the form he was in before his injury, took him a while to get back to the level he was at Derby and he’s already 30 now..

Duffy was most certainly not the problem yesterday.

Dowell looked good when he came on, like Madine, but neither showed enough to displace Duffy/McGoldrick.

All the players have in game monitors in their shirts which show that on 70 minutes Duffy hits the red zone. The alternative is to ask Duffy to pace himself better but Wilder has clearly doesn’t want players to lower their intensity, also players in the red zone are more likely to pick up injuries, so there’s no choice but to sub him as this protects and prolongs his career.

Don’t know how we can stop being predictable, apart from dropping him altogether, which I wouldn’t advise as he is a key player.

Agreed, I do think there will come a point where Dowell and Duffy switch and Duffy becomes the impact sub, this maybe me completely frabricating this but I don’t recall Duffy having the same effect when he comes off the bench.(I maybe wrong)

I’d prefer Duffy to start and to make sure that Dowell comes on BEFORE Duffy gets too tired. Yesterday, Duffy looked absolutely shattered for ten minutes before he came off. He didn’t have the energy to tackle and Swansea players were drifting past him like he wasn’t there. We may as well have had ten men for that spell (which ended in the goal, and lost us of all the momentum from the first half).

Encouraged by what I've seen of Dowell. He looks a player and capable at this level. Duffy should start, when possible. though. I've not seen much evidence of Dowell performing the Duffy role and we play better when Duffy is in the side.

Oh dear.....school boy error...call yourself.a Blade ha ha ..surely you haven’t forgotten the Bounce Killler 2-4 game.
Duffy came on as sub in the 63rd minute and 4 minutes later he’d scored the historic bounce killer goal that will never be forgotten.

Know what you mean though...ignoring that fantastic game....in general Duffy doesn’t seem as effective when he comes on as sub.

Duffy was everywhere in the first half, popping up left and right. I think Dowell plays differently and perhaps offers something else to open sides up.

Dowell's ball to Leon which ran out was the right idea as was his ball into Billy, he seems to be able to pick a pass to unlock sides, hard to execute when you're dealing with tight margins and sides that have their backs to the wall, but against a side confidently attacking, its perhaps a good option. He also has a shot in him

However, what Duffy offers is the ability to play the simple pass, links play between wings and of course feeds the wingbacks and overlapping centre halves, so he is a huge part of our Plan A.

I think there could be a chance it's Dowell and Coutts in for either Duffy and McG or Duffy and Fleck.

I'm surprised that we haven't played 1 up top or dropped McG deeper into the number 10 role in more games. It would provide that extra man in midfield and would link play better. Perhaps we might see it occasionally now we have Madine up top.

I've thought this for a couple of years. 541 could be really effective away from home.

But if it was that simple I'm guessing we'd have done it already? A CF like McBurnie who has those abilities to play on his own up top still only came alive yesterday when they put another player up there with him second half.

4 wins on the bounce followed by 1 defeat and now Fleck and Norwood are off form?

I think it depends on the players, particularly the strikers, Madine is a bit more of an all rounder, but importantly he's a target man, so perhaps it now gives us the option

I thought Norwood was excellent yesterday. I’m Coutts’ biggest fan but he can’t do the same things Norwood does. We’d have to change the way we play.

The only properly worrying sign about Dowello, for me, is that his running posture is a dead spit for David Carney .

are any of these fading players the ones who've taken 12 points from our last 5 games.

Surely we start next week with the same team that has been winning well since boxing day.

Plenty of options off the bench now if things need changing after 1/2 time

i was reading twitter thought why is keiron dowell trending (15th in uk) i wonder how hes getting on & not doing roys job as he was fantastic. but quite a number of derby fans are slating him. is this the wilder effect where he extracts the maximum from players. as i like him last yr

He did have a really good song and sometimes that's enough.
Reading this it reminds me how glad I am that we didn't spend all our transfer kitty last season on Waghorn, never been impressed.
