It has been noted that Coutts is coming under a certain amount of criticism from certain quarters.

For one who has defended Basham from game 1, some have already started criticising Coutts, but he needs some defending - we DO NOT need a new scapegoat.

FFS give this lad time to settle too - what is it with some people?

He does a job for the team - we are now much harder to beat and where before we have been soft, we aren't now. For all some know, he may have been carrying a slight injury and playing through it. He had a groin injury on Saturday and looks like he played with it last night. His movement looks difficult at times but he may be "managing" his problem. Clough thinks highly enough of him to still play the lad.

Don't forget he only came back Sept/Oct 2014 after a year out with a serious knee cap injury - that in itself could be having a knock on effect.

Just give the NEW lad a chance.

I agree, but the trouble is people will see what they see. I've personally not been overly impressed with him in the games I've seen, notts county he looked poor. However, against Coventry he looked better.

True, let the lad settle, be critical if performances merit it and praise decent performances. In fairness the comments on here towards basham tend to relate to poor midfield performances. Not critical

Looking at the comments towards Basham after Saturday there are some positives after a good midfield performance

It's the anti higdon, Mcnulty, Baxter and JCR groups that get me. If they wear the red and white give them a chance rather than having a go from the first whistle. Some of the knobheads on the Kop are unbelievable at times

Didn't look fit to me and NC has suggested as such. Don't forget he's had a long time out and is definitely one for next season.

There's no reason to be playing unfit or injured players with the number of midfield players we have. Early days for Coutts and he has potential.

We need our central midfield players to take more responsibility and get involved more.

Has he actually been given any stick? The only "criticism" I've seen is on here, which is surely what this place is for.

And it depends how you define criticism. Am I been critical of I suggest that he's been poor in the games I've seen? Isn't that just a statement of fact as I see it?

If I were to write him off after such a short space of time, now that would be a different matter.

I think you just get a less vocal breed of knobhead on the South Stand. I've noticed the same amount of negativity every time I've mistakenly strayed onto there.

Interesting how those who take an immediate dislike/hatred of a player have no idea how their comments actually contribute to said players performance,

We all benefit from a little encouragement, yet the same predictable voices can be heard pulling the rug from under the feet of certain players. I recall these same voices taking a pop at players like Flynn and Murphy. Yes, before Clough was appointed they were far from impressive, yet look at them now! It took Clough to recognise their potential, and both players, especially Murphy, have made a significant contribution to the Blades since then.

Maybe these critical voices are like this outside of the ground, maybe they are one-trick ponies who consider being critical the most worthwhile thing they can contribute to other people's lives.......it makes me wonder what life must be like for their kids?

Is he being vocally criticised then? If so, when?

We always seem to have a whipping boy with us fans at BDTBL . My view , it is going to be a nervous time especially at home , in the run in for promotion. What we fans think , does not matter a toss , its what his team mates and management think that counts.

Personally i think Coutts is class . Fulwood you are right . Lets give them all a chance . We can have a postmortem when the season is finished . Having a go at our own players , helps the opposition , not us .

Have we lost it at the lane ,that the fans are the 12th man.

The Kop does attract them! There is one guy across the gangway from us and he's one of those real loud mouth know nowts. His son is about 5 year old now and he's the same. On saturday he spent the entire game having a go at the ref after the Baxter sending off, stating that every challenge from Cov was a red... Granted from the Kop it looked a harsh red for Jose, but we were a long way away. I thought at the time that he went over the top of the ball, but couldn't tell if it was two footed. I thought yellow. So i texted the lads on the South Stand and they came back straight away with def red/ straight red, daft twat. Perhaps the bloke along from me wrote an apology to the ref and will shy away from making snap judgements next game.. doubt it

The slagging off around me last light was reserved for JCR ,even though he wasn't even on the bench. I don't know if that's due to a couple of off games or him being black though to be honest ,I suspect the latter :(

I felt sorry for the 2 cavemen behind me last night. Their f*****g shite refrain was interspersed by the occasional well informed comment like, Done is shite - always f*****g offside, f****g do something Clough something similar. I really wonder how they live their lives and what they do in 21 century Britain.

I think they have a season ticket behind me

Same with Jason Holt in the home game v Colchester just because he played a ball backwards about 5 mins after coming on as a sub in his home debut

Correct Pedro, yet if I recall, Holt's next game was viewed as decent and showed promise, can't ask much more than that from a new player integrating himself into a new team and new style of play.

Youve got give players like Holt time to adapt new club, new teamates, new living arrangements, new manager all takes time
It doesnt help that Coutts has had a long lay off with injury

Yep, we lost against Gillingham.
To be fair, our results have been appalling since he came into the team.
You can see why people would want to find fault:-

Precisely suppose the boo boys will have a pop

There' s a good few around us in E South Stand its only a matter of time before it kicks off some of the lads me included are pissed off with it.

Yes your dead right fulwood some of our fans are never happy without a scapegoat (monty leaves and it was doyle) coutts has not played many games this season and comes here in the middle of a grueling run of games clough knows the player
and obviously feels he can cope .he is bound to be feeling it.He looks a talented ball player and with good physical strength
maybe not the fastest but makes up for it in other ways. Why certain fans need a scapegoat i cant understand but getting on their backs is counter productive.he is another player that can cut it in the championship if we get there.

Proper footballer. Positionally good, fine touch on the ball, knows exactly what he wants to do with it, plays within himself, rarely loses possession, competitive, looks to have leadership skills and the respect of his fellow players.

I so enjoy watching proper footballers and this lad creates space for himself in all situations. Opposition players tend to stand off him and that's a sign of respect for his presence and his skills. Even yesterday with Coventry looking to batter us in midfield, he was the one to find space and time. When playing with Brayford they seem to have a telepathy with lovely little balls teased into small spaces for each other to run on to.

Scottish U-21 international and well regarded by Derby fans.

He suffered a dislocated knee in September 2013 and that's the main reason we had the chance to sign him no doubt. There could lie the problem - he doesn't look fit, can't even walk freely very early on in games. None of us fans know whether this is how it will be forever or whether he will gradually get his full mobility over a period. Either way I reckon he will become a main man for us.

If he has a permanent condition of restricted mobility so be it. One of our best ever players, Paul McGrath, played like a Rolls Royce never out of low gear and he was just great to watch. The manager knows how good he is and it's all about playing him in the right position with the right partnerships in the team.

Hope this helps with this thread.

I have not heard anyone slagging Coutts off, but I guess if they do, they are entitled to their opinion. He is not 100% match fit, but he looks strong to me, and a six footer in our line up is no bad thing. I would imagine a fully fit Coutts and Wallace (James), would be a real strong pairing in the middle of the park, not sure if we will see that this season though.

Think he's one for the championship next season. Long injury and being pushed to play with knocks in the past few games. Get the play offs over and done with, win the final then get him rested ready for next season he'll do good and he will compare as well as Basham

Looked off the pace and unfit - good to give him more game time I suppose.
