he meets the exact requirement I would have thought(championship experience, can work on restricted budgets etc)....not convinced brown does.

The ultimate appointement for me would be offering a position to Alladyce until the end of the season. He won't staty aftetr that but his passion and drive to prove a point would keep us up....

I will wake up from my dream soon .

Birch says he requires someone who will continue the transformation in playing style & culture. Adams is Warnock Mk2.

Bartman,
Out of the alleged shortlist, if SUFC were serious about re-branding our football there was one outstanding candidate. If you're suggesting all the coverage in recent days was based on SUFC having no contact with SOD/DRFC, I'd suggest that is highly, highly unlikely.
And if we approach someone else in the next few days, you can be sure that'll leak out as well.
That is why it was stupid to say no appointment until the NY.
Not only did it allow a clutch of games to slip by without a new manager and shoving said new manager directly into an already open transfer window, it created a vacuum for unhelpful and potentially damaging, unsettling speculation to seep into.

One outstanding candidate in your opinion .In terms of re-brand,what about Eddie Howe,Andy Scott,Lee Clark..all have good good reputations at the moment. If he has been interviewed and the Board believes that he couldn't cope with the proessure of managing a club like ours, they are right to look elsewhere.

Don't you find it strange that no other championship club other than one(and Ryan didn't let him talk to Burnley) has shown any interewst in taking SOD. ?

Are some fans thinking that the change of culture that we were looking for was pretty football rather than winning football. If SOD came and we stayed up,but remained in the bottom five this time next season, there would be many calls for him to be sacked as there would if he was at many of the bigger clubs in our league.

Andy Scott has been given permission to talk to us...I assume others have as well. SOD has exactly ruled himself out('I am not part of the process') or he would say that he is staying at Donny.

We don't know the facts ,Lenners, and you appear that many fans appear to be making statements based on assumption and speculation

Yeah then march us straight back down again!

With 38 points, a total that would have kept us up any other year.

I dont want to reopen the Warnock debate, but I dont get why people paint his time in charge as some sort of dark age we dont want to go back to.

No Bartman, I don't think it's strange at all.
It's just a clear illustration of how clubs operate, what they think's important and a recognition they think fans won't take to him because of his manner.
And no , I am making statements directly related to SUFC's public statement.

"Contrary to reports in the national press this morning Doncaster Rovers Football Club would like to confirm that Sean O'Driscoll has not yet accepted the post of manager at Sheffield United."

Is that better now?

For what? I've never recalled him being abusive. Unbelievably patronising at times, but never abusive.

Say what you like about lenners, but he's never been abusive. He is very patronising indeed, but he's never resorted to calling people rude names. He can't get their screen names right half the time, but that's never been and never will be abusive. And has been pointed out numerous times, if you don't like what someones says you can stick them on your "ignore" list.

Oi, Shoreham, shut it, you nincompoop.

Regardless of the merits (or otherwise) of the various candidates, I saw not a lot wrong with our playing style under Warnock. At various times under his management we played some very good and exciting football, which was more entertaining than most of the football seen at Bramall Lane since the mid 1970s.

New Manager latest ...

"My last 5 posts have been spot on the money,so here is the very latest on the new manager search i was told 30 minutes ago. SOD is still one of the candidates,he has not ruled himself out,and i can stake my reputation on WILL meet with the board next week, when the interviews start. They are taking place down south at a venue known to Trevor Birch. That is the reason for the delay, the organising of a suitable venue for the interviews. So anyone posting they have seen Rafa at the Copthorne is lying!!.The decision and announcement is very likely on Jan 4th/5th. My source tells me there are MORE than the 6 candidates mentioned, but i know not who! John Carver is the favourite, due to the feedback from the players, and the impact he has made with the powers that be.If results go well, all these interviews will be pointless."

make what you will of that!

Feedback from the players should be irrelevant. No self respecting Director should be taking cues from an underperforming staff when they are making the decision on who should be the next manager.

I can't think of a worse basis for choosing a boss than the fact that he is liked by his employees. If that makes him favourite, then we really are up shit creek.

I agree with both rusty and H.Blade

Should be the last criteria for setting on a manager that aims to change the whole culture of the club from a footballing point of view!

So I know, let's set on a bloke who get's on with the players, who in turn are playing the type and style of football we are trying to change

Yep, makes good sense.

I can - how about a boss who is hated by his employees.

Being liked by his players didn't harm Matt Busby. Ian Holloway is doing ok, too.

in my humble opinion we should just walk away from SOD the man has no balls. He has the skills were looking for theres no doubt about it but he doesnt like pressure and the limelight and thats all hes ever gunna get with us he,l be out the door quicker then he came through it. This club needs a manager with steel in his back and hair on his chest like the greats we,ve had ie bassett, warnock etc someone who can take the abuse the fans and media will give him not someone whos gunna hide in a cupboard everytime the situation gets a lil heavy

If there's any truth in this then I can only assume that the club really have not got a clue who to appoint and or McCabe has other busines or personal business on at the moment hence the delay.

Surely we aren't gathering all 6 candidates in one location on the same day for interviews - maybe we're going the whole way and having an assessment centre. I understand the need to get the right manager and not rush things but there is a limit. In football terms we've known a long time that Speed may be going.

Have we really been unable to sound out all the managers on the shortlist yet to see who would take it and then to start interviewing them.

In other words, he's cheap so lets have him?? Bollocks, buggery and bullshit. There goes my Merry Chrimbo.

:(

Spot on. Obviously we don't know what is happeneing or has happened but if we want him and he's dithering then we should move on smartish.

Gotta love this notion.
Sounds like the Apprentice, with McCabe preparing to deliver 'you're hired' after prolonged whispering with Birch on one side and Pembo on the other.

I did say, 'basis for choosing'. If this is a good basis, then Carver automatically gets the job.

With everybody else, we would have the following conversation;

"Right...er...we'll give you the job for a couple of weeks...er...see if the players like you...er...try and be nice...um...don't upset them too much, will you?"

I'm loving it! For once, a move has not been flagged up weeks ahead by an in-the-know journo. Names have been bandied about. The betting has been all over the place. Either Birch and co have genuinely not made up their minds, or they have not been able to finalise a deal, or they are playing their cards remarkably close to their chest.

Meanwhile journalists and fans try to speculate in what is going on, who's in, who's not in, and if so what the outcome might be. The fact is - we have no idea.

I'm happy to give them time in the expectation that at least they will make an appointment based on full consideration of all the factors. No knee-jerk reactions this time (except from some fans).

So its our collective opinion that SOD not coming here would be a disaster?

Well, bearing in mind that we chose to support a club that wins nowt, usually by cocking it up when it appears easier to succeed, can I suggest that no-one should take any damn notice of anything that we think on any matters football..?

He's got a point there to be fair.

That's annoying.

No not for me. I would be happy if SOD was appointed but ive never been 100% sure that he's right for the job. I think long term he could turn us into a decent outfit but we need to get the short term right first IMO.

If it is to be SOD then great, if not then no problem. There are lots of good managers out there and a couple of decent ones have been linked with us. So lets sit back and see what happens..........
