CLUB STATEMENT

Contrary to reports in the national press this morning Doncaster Rovers Football Club would like to confirm that Sean O'Driscoll has not accepted the post of manager at Sheffield United.

O'Driscoll has distanced himself from media speculation linking him with the post stating, "I am not part of the process of Sheffield United appointing a new manager. All the speculation that has surrounded this over the past week is extremely unhelpful and disruptive to the players and staff at both football clubs and is very unwelcome."

Can read that in a number of ways, but personally I think the obvious one is the right one. i.e. we've not been talking to him and won't be.

To be fair much of the speculation has been due to John Ryan's comments, so they've only got themselves to blame.

If fairness if we have not approached/interviewed him,there is not change from the position of before this statement. Bit strange that John Ryan intimated today on Sky that SOD had had an interview.

The only people speculating were fans on the forums.

I see Andy Scott has been granted permission to speak to us,as I suspect Adams has and I wonder if these were the options we were looking at.

I wouldn't say he has really distanced himself with that statement. Why hasn't he just said I'm not interested in the job??? DRFC have put out far too many statements in the last few days.

If we have approached and its the case he doesn't want it, then fine we'll move on.

I think (maybe hope) this is a case of poor wording. The Yorkshire Post has declared that this means he's not coming here full stop.

I really wouldn't read much into it. It sounds like a statement to dampen speculation more than anything. There is no confirmation in that statement that he is not leaving Doncaster.

Stop talking tosh man it hasn't been a month, trigg's has already addressed this on another thread its been 10 days thus far.

And the board don't look like dithering idiots.. as they have not released any names, no matter what description Birch gave out he never once said a name. Doncaster are the dithering idiots for releasing a press release every 5 minutes.

As Ward has, myself and Jim and anyone else who has said, its a nothing statement, that doesn't rule him in or out of the picture for the job.

Where have they gone wrong, bearing in mind the timeline of events i.e written requests, time to respond etc etc etc and the fact you yourself stated that we had to take our time and get it right ?

Personally I don't want to hear a thing from them till they have found the right man, why should we add speculation into every pot, by releasing a press statement? The club have a job to do, I'd rather them just get on with it. And you or I do not know what they have been doing behind close doors or who they have been speaking too.

Maybe the board has ruled him out of the running. I posted the other week that S'OD does things his own way and maybe he doesn't want Pembo in the academy etc;
Maybe he wanted 5million to spend
Maybe we had to payout another 500k to bring all his backroom staff
