Does anyone know what this is about?

It's a bit like when you were at school and had to write a 3000 word essay

Sheffield United and their manager, Chris Wilder, who used to be a ballboy for Sheffield United and used to play for them. He is now manager and has been in charge for 100 games.

Chris Wilder, who is Sheffield United manager, started out his career as a ballboy for Sheffield United and was a professional football player for them also. He has recently taken charge of his 100th game.

Taking charge of his 100th game, Chris Wilder, who used to be an ex professional footballer for Sheffield United, look to have their hopes to finish in a play off position BOOSTED this season with a KEY PLAYER RETURNING. "Jake Wright, is still 4 weeks away from returning to u23 matches"

It's same old shit, same old same old same old. Just re-worded.
That’s how tabloid articles work. Your only ‘error’ was you didn’t say ‘Chris Wilder (51)’ because you always have to state the age of the subject.

What the PL clubs want is what they’ve got in Spain so you’d get ‘Manchester United B’, ‘Manchester City B’ etc fucking etc plying their trade in the lower leagues. They’re pushing it as being beneficial to the English national team (just like they did when they formed the PL) when in reality it’s just about them being even more successful and trying to steal supporters from the existing lower league teams, so that instead of watching Bury or Orient they go to Man U B or Arsenal B.

Greedy twats will always want more.

I haven’t read Shields’ article but I suspect his ‘land grab’ is an analogy with the Inclosure acts where lots of common land was stolen from the people by rich bastards.

Premier League clubs try fixing rules in their favour so teams in the lower leagues have to do all the work in raising young players only for them to then cherry pick the best and pay next to fuck all for them.

There you go that full article in 42/43 words(cant be bothered to count again)

there is no justification behind this move at all, so if it was to pass then its an unquestionable fix in favour of them that cant be argued. its sad too when you look at what % of the England team was made up of players developed by clubs outside the celebrated few. Also will be a big reason behind clubs deciding to sack off their Academies

Bollocks to James Shield, the real issue here is whether it is 'Inclosure' or 'Enclosure'. Even Wiki's knickers are in a bit of a twist:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enclosure

I thnk BushBlade may be on to something here!

Coming soon in the Star:

"5 things you never new about land reform in the 18th century"

"10 celebrities and what they might have looked like as olde English peasants"

"PPI - did you have your fields enlcosed (inclosed) in 1773? You may be due £££££s of compo"

His point about the authorities using England's 'success' to rubber stamp EPPP as a success is an interesting point. He could have countered it with a detailed itenary of the England players backgrounds to counter it though.Tell us why the establishment of designated "feeder clubs" wont work.I'm glad he has written an article on this type of subject though.I also agree that Shield's solution is a key part of the overall solution.

It will work, unfortunately. It works in other countries and in other sports (most notably baseball and ice hockey in the US).

The price will be the destruction of the lower divisions as we know them.

It's a good issue to throw some light on, as you say. What an odd article though.

To further stop anyone getting behind this, he's linked it to a tweet from CW about fixtures!

There was a good point in there somewhere. Perhaps a 'top' football writer like say, er, Martin Samuel should get on the case....

I actually typed ‘enclosure’ but thought I’d add the wiki link and saw they had it as ‘inclosure’. I’m sure you aware that much of Crookesmoor and the surrounding areas were built following the acts.

I do like reading some of his stuff tbf. And I think he raises an interesting perspective on some things. I also think his post-match video reports are a pretty accurate view of what happened. Even though the way he delivers it is about as interesting as listening to the Eckington Blade on RS, talking about his mate Sean and the Essex Bee.

I sense there's a deep inner frustration about the bloke. I think he really wants to be writing about things more interesting than football. I think he wants to show off his literary prowess and the football columns of the Sheffield Star aren't really the place to do that. That frustration comes through in articles like this one, where he is keen to give us a pot pourri of loosely related events and see if we can find the main thread of his argument. Sometimes also, he loves to bring a big, or unusual, word or two, into his script. I can understand that. I like words, always have done, especially ones that few people understand. I just love launching them out there, in conversation, and watching folk struggle to understand what the fuck I'm on about. I think there's a bit of that in him too.

Anyhow, enough of this schadenfreude for now.;)

It was quite obvious what he was getting at, the way it was written was fucking shit though.
