..........................................that we will sign anyone who will improve our remote chances of promotion before the window closes????

I'm firmly in the no camp.
And then it will be the tired old excuses as to why not. Im not going to list them cause you all know what they will be.

The key is in the 'who will improve our chances' bit! To this the answer is NO. Any signing will be some journeyman looking for a better pay day.

These would be the same tired old excuses they used last January, would they?

The OP lacks logic and must have memory problems.

The exact same things have been said the last 2 January Windows.

Example: Theres no way we'll buy Brayford. We haven't the ambition to pay over a million and pay massive wages in league 1.

Shock, horror. We sign Brayford.

There's no way well buy Matt Done. He's in top form and we don't have the ambition to meet Rochdales asking price because we have no ambition.

Shock horror. We sign Done.

Maybe for the pessimists this will be 3rd time lucky but based on the last 2 years then I expect us to sign players to improve the 1st team.

The only spanner in the works are the rumours that the Prince might be tightening the purse strings and I'm a little worried that Phipps has taken himself off Twitter because that action suggests he knows flack might be coming his way.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm sick of (every 10 minutes) checking this forum, Sky Sports Transfer centre, SUFC Tweets etc hoping for signs of a signing. OK, I'm a bit of a sad bastard, but I know I'm not alone and the hope is what's killing me. I'd rather just accept the news now and know that we're not signing anyone and then I can fume. I hope to be proved wrong, but if not, I might join Brian in the car park! ;-)

We've been "actively working towards the window" at least since the Shrewsbury battering. Of course we're getting players in! To think anything else would be to suggest that our club, from owner to manager, says anything and everything to keep us spending, attending and generally not asking questions and seeking answers about the whole ongoing shower. (See also: "Europe in 5 Years"; "New funds of $500 million will become available within a 6 to 9 month period"; "Think Liverpool" and - seem to remember but I might be wrong - "This club HAS TO go up this season.")

No one thought we might sign Done mate because it came right at the end of the window and it was more like "who the hell is Matt Done"? He proved to be a decent signing, but every window we've failed to significantly strengthen the team, and usually we end up weaker, not stronger at the end of one. We needed height last season up front to have someone better than Higdon to play alongside McNulty and we got a better version of McNulty. Bit like this summer we got a better version (again) of McNulty in Sharp. When are we going to sign what we f@@@ing need.

The problem is that, quite rightly, we're looking to sign players of good quality who will get us and keep us in the play-off mix. Unfortunately for us, so is every other bugger. Although we didn't sign what we needed last January (Brayford & Freeman are good, but two RB's when we needed a CB?), we did sign quality, with Done only signing on deadline day. Agents are trying to get the best deals for their clients, clubs want the biggest fees, blah blah blah.

It's a waiting game, it's boring and sometimes we'll lose out. With the size of our squad and the fact we've only been able to sell one player, with a few others shipped on loan, I'd be surprised if anything worth singing about happens this window.

A fuckload of contracts up in June, with nobody wanting to pay for what they can get for free in a few months and players who know they're not gonna get equal/higher wages elsewhere, thus happy to sit out current deals...only at Sheffield United!

Joking aside I do keep thinking about Adkins continually saying " we need to stay in touch until January ". He obviously thought something was going to materialise this month

Phipps Twatted 2 hours ago.
