Just interested to hear if people on here attend matches in a Blades shirt or some related item of clothing..or if they don't really care and wear something unrelated.

I've met some who think that its a kids thing and they don't. Equally there is obviously also a lot of people who do wear them as well.

If you do, do you always have the newest kit or do you stick with a classic? Do you have any 'lucky' items of clothing?

and do you have a players name on the back...same question would you go for a current player or a legend who in that case is guaranteed not to leave the club the next day?

I do most games now (if I've had time to go home and get changed), but I went through a stage in my 20's of not wearing a shirt, ever.

I think I do now because I go with the kids now and they wear them, and of course I don't usually drag them around city centre pubs/clubs away from the ground after games, so trying to get into a non-football pub with a football shirt is no longer an issue. I also care much less what other people think about me as I've got older, if someone thinks I'm a big kid for wearing a shirt then I don't really give a proverbial (actually, I'll happily admit myself, I am a big kid when it comes to football ).

I never wear them when we're not playing though. I always think it looks a bit strange seeing grown men wearing football shirts in the middle of town on a random day when a match isn't on. Double standards I guess.

Edit: just to answer your other questions: I have last years kit, not really bothered about this years kit, infact I'd probably sometimes wear my older kits if they hadn't shrunk (any suggestion I've got larger will be met with a flat out denial :D). I've never had player names or numbers on any shirt.

I've not got one of this season's shirts yet, but I will probably get the home one, as well as the special sexy black one when they finally get it. Sometimes it's a new one, sometimes an oldy. My two favourites of recent years are the old white "Wards" one, and I've a long sleeved "Desun" home one.

The only time I had a shirt done with a current player on was the last white away kit, with Jagielka 6 on the back. All the others with a player's name on have been Currie 10, although I've been tempted to have Booker 4 on.

As to wearing one or not then it depends on my mood, and the weather. If it's cold enough to need a coat then I don't bother, and it also depends if I'm going out drinking after.

Always wear colours, if nothing else because I always wear my truly battered United coat. Of late, I've usually had the black and white striped away shirt, but changed it for the pigs and wore the 'Triple Assault' red and white stripes.

I've always worn colours when away (a super rarity nowadays) to make sure the locals know I'm there for football, and not a punch up.

I've never had a player's name on my back either.

Only worn a shirt on a few occasions, usually the big games. Wore one for the cup semi against the pigs, the play-off final against Palace and the defeat to Wigan (There's an underlying theme there!).
None of my friends wear colours to the match either.
I have the latest home one which I think is great and was a birthday present. I was going to buy it anyway. I do wear it round town (and in Skeg when I'm up there), I am a grown man (39) and I don't see a problem with that.

Historically never have. There are probably about 4 or 5 occasions when I've either worn a club shirt or some other identifying item. Last friday I wore a t shirt I'd bought from the club shop and did feel a bit self conscious (I'm 55). However when you wear a shirt or a similar identifying item loads of Blades talk to you, it's remarkable. For example I was drinking on my tod last Friday on london Rd and groups of Blades are quite happy to chat. It's quite inclusive actually and made me proud to be a Blade

Like Billy I have only ever worn them for really big games (and we almost invariably lose so I have vowed to stop doing it). Got to say I feel a little self conscious as a grown man wearing one but everyone to their own.

I have just this season started wearing a Blades T-Shirt, but more because I quite like it than as a sign of loyalty etc.

The last shirt I wore regulary was the old luminous green/yellow one (when it was new) so that will give you an idea of when it was.

UTB

I wear my blades shirts quite regular to be honest, mainly due to comfort factor. I really don't give two monkeys what people think about me in a blades shirt (am 25). I do wear them at games most of the time. Haven't got this seasons yet.

when i was in my teens in the early 90's i had every single shirt (home/away/3rd/keepers both home and away) from every season and i would wear pretty much all of them at the same time.

i was a fat skinny kid!
havent bought one now for at least 5 years, and may never buy one again unless i have kids

I never have. I think its just a function of when I first started watching United (late 70's/early 80's) when no-one wore football shirts other than to play football. I am very conservative when it comes to clothing, if in nothing else...

I am really not a big football shirt fan. I never wear one away from a game. Thus said I usually wear colours on match day. I really don't see anything wrong with adults wearing shirts to the game. However I must admit that I don't think footy shirts bring the best out of people (in terms of looks and appearences) and wouldn't dream of wearing a Blades shirt down to the pub, to meadowhell, walking on a Sunday afternoon or sumert.

I have a Sheff U scarp drapsed over my monitor at work (in London) and reliogously wear my red and white SUFC gloves throughout the winter (remember the one's Peter Ndlove used to sport!?)

Got a couple of United shirts, but more often I wear one of my United T-shirts. I have a formerly "lucky" Maradona shirt, and an Agana Legend shirt.

Fascinating, I know.

I don't particularly wear colours, mainly because I have to travel to games and encounter all sorts of other fans on the tubes/ trains, and partly because I'm a bit of a ponce, and partly because I use my attendance at games as an excuse to get loads of pints in different places.

That's interesting actually, i didn't know that (not being alive at the time :))

I remember someone recently posted the illustration of all the united shirts, home and away, by year since 1889, and if you look you can see that half of them are from the last 10 years or so..so it shows just how much the consumer culture in football has built up recently.

to answer my own question, im exiled at the moment so dont get to many matches. I do have a united shirt which i dont tend to wear but maybe ill get a newer one so ill wear that.

Hehe. Me neither, always wear one of the pin badges to show my allegiance.

Until the last game of the promotion season I hadn't worn a Blades shirt for years, something to do with shirts not looking cool and stuff, but I thought what the heck, we're going up, it can't hurt to wear a shirt to the Palace game.

What a mistake! I couldn't get in a single pub after the game! Luckily my mate lived near by so I was able to borrow a top, but since then i've never worn a Blades shirt.

I tend to wear a Blades badge to compliment my clobber, but thats it.

Other than that I tend to buy most home shirts if I like them, but more than that I buy Blades Polo's. Nothing better than walking into the boozer in Switzerland on a Sunday afternoon and seeing all the Man U/ Liverpool/ Chelsea etc and in amongst them theres me a Blade. The only Blade, but with more links to my club than the plastic fans in their replica shirts will ever have seeing as though they're from London, Senegal or Zurich.

46 years old and happily wear a shirt to each and every game :D Don't give a flying monkey's shite about what others might think (in fact until reading this thread I hadn't realised others might even be interested in what shirts others choose to wear!!)

The only question is which shirt will be lucky - tends to vary between the triple assault red and white stripes, a Canada national shirt with Peschisolido on the back or a red and white halved Slavia Prague shirt - - each has it's stories - but none is particularly lucky :o

I don't really like wearing anything UTD orientated, especailly if i'm going for a drink after the match.

If i'm at the Lane i don't think i need to announce who i support, whereas if i'm going somewhere like wembley or if UTD are playing a team in the north east i'll wear some UTD colours, but its usually a vintage classic.

I used to when I was younger, but the last few years I haven't. Surprisingly, when I was old enough to go in pubs.

I've got nothing against people wearing their shirts to matches, it's just not something to do. I've got endless amounts of different football shirts at home that I wear, but I only really wear United ones when I'm either playing football or I'm on holiday.

Not even bothered getting this year's shirt, mainly because I know we'll get a new one next season!

I used to.

Although they are not worth buying and wearing anymore.

I used to when i was younger. Don't bother now as i don't particularly like the look of them. I've got a United top for when (once a blue moon) I play football though.

I only wear colours when when I'm outside Sheffield.

Shirts when I'm holiday and a flag on the parcel shelf for any significant

motorway trip.

Probably cos I know how good it is to see any Blades reference when I'm

outside Sheff.

Blades polo shirt. Like others, the only time I've worn a United shirt we've lost, so I've given up on them. But I do like to make myself known as a Blade. Made my day today when I saw a car with four Blades stickers in! Obviously a 'proper' Blade! Not living in Sheffield, I'm ridiculously pleased to see another Blade.

Have you burnt the Viktoria Zizkov one now then ;)

i never wear a blades shirt to matches apart from the big ones ,you know the ones we lose
think i might stop that little tradition

I'm the same when it comes to seeing car stickers, i've seen two around Manchester in the last week!

I used to wear a replica shirt for every game and if I wasn't there would have to wear the same t-shirt every saturday and the same socks. After Wembley, I finally decided to bring an end to this insanity. "My clothes will not influence the result! Snap out of it. I am 39 for god's sake!"

I have a blue DESUN shirt with DOANE 15 on the back. I think Ben Doane and his mother are the only other proud owners of such an item.

This is like alcoholics anonymous. I should have done this years ago.

Glad to see that in true Blade tradition, that glass is clearly less than half full!
