1973 v Burnley as a 7 year old fucking bricking it, clinging to the white painted railings at the front of the west terrace. Ball rolled just in front me, I look up and there was Woody about a 2 foot away picking the ball up. He looked like a grey haired giant and instantly took my breath away.

First match for me was sometime in The seventies on the kop watching us play I think it was Norwich. Can't remember the score ...not sure I saw much either tbh.
Then saw United play Leeds. Early 70s we lost 2-0 , stood on the kop and I can remember it being extremely full( I was stood in front of a terrace railing)with children being passed onto the terrace and there were loads of Leeds fans in there too, but I don't remember any trouble.
Started attending regularly from 74/75 and have been going ever since.
Daughter went from 9 months onwards, sons first away match was at Chesterfield when he was 1 but my youngest hates football....don't know where I went wrong with her. Living in Nottingham the kids don't go that often, just Christmas and if I can get Wembley tickets.....oh and we all go if we play a Notts team.

L**ds match was either in August 1972 or in April 1974 (loads of L**ds fans were there as they were not far off from clinching the League title). Both 2-0 defeats

It was in the late 60s I was very young, and I walked down to the front of the kop with my dad. i didn't see him for 30 years then he died so i'll never know.

I were 3 so my memry's not too clear, but I'm thinking it were a Tuesday night match shortly before the old JSS came down. It were a big one too- all four stands thronging.

Went with my dad when I was very young, I think it was very early 70's. Cant even remember the game, but I think we was on the John street terrace.
Start going with mates when I was about 13, used to go in the Junior Blades pen then climb out on to the Kop, what excitement Saturdays used to be, the whole experience was great.

Can't remember my first game as I was just a nipper..My Dad was a Blade and would have started going back in the late 30's I would have thought..can't remember my Grandparents being into Football much though..he started taking me..My Brother's first game was Leeds 3-0 game in '71..My Daughter and my Son's first game was a 2-1 defeat ..night game at the Lane...Grandson was in the Prem season when he was 5,but not sure which game..Grandaughter was first game back in League one..Brentford I think...I've got another Grandson who will probably be lost to the darkside because of his Dad...I'll try and rescue him though.

My Wendy supporting uncle told me that my great grandfather, John Coulbeck (1869 - 1954) was a Lane regular from the 1890s. Not sure when he stopped going to football matches

I'm sure we've had this thread before. Mine was 0-2 defeat at home to Palace in div 2 in Sep 1978. Imre Varadi's debut and Woody's last home game. Cheets junior's was Estudiantes.

Pigs at lane 1-1 1980,I was 9 years old,my sister took me she went home and away in the 70s old pond Street mob..can remember walking down shrewsbury road and roundabout at Bottom blades and pigs scrapping like he'll..brilliant

My 7 year old twins fleetwood 2 seasons ago think it were 2-2 as 5yr olds now they love it...

Not sure of my first game - I didn't have an epiphany like many, but was definitely hooked by 89/89.

String I think was 28 August78 v Liverpool. He was 6. I tracked down a programme for him for his birthday a few years back. No doubt he'll correct me if I'm wrong

Might be wrong but I think you're referring to Wolves away on 9th May, 1989. Wolves were top and we 'manufactured' a 2-2 draw to secure second spot and where Martin Pike mistook the ref. blowing for a foul near the end as the final whistle. He chucked his boots into the crowd and had to play the last few minutes in his stockinged feet.

Anyway, April 23rd 1962. Away to Man. U. I remember it well but can't remember what I had for tea yesterday!
I went to that game there Kop were split in to two sections and both sets of fans were coining and throwing stuff at each other and I had my collar felt just after we scored our 2nd goal..got kicked out of ground and stood on banking with about 200+ other blades peering in from the corner.

28/10/61 SUFC 2 - 2 Fulham FC

England Captain Haynes played. It was sunny.

Depends 1st sheff utd game i watched on tv was the 1997 play off final. God knows why i kept supporting utd & thought it was a good idea as a 7yr old, when you suffer last kick crushing disappointment (guessing crushing as i was 7) :D:)

January 1998 Wolves 1-0 i think marcelo scored, but weird to think it was pre warnock because i was 9 when he was appointex 17 when he left

Me: unfortunately, my very first match was at the age of 11 when Don Givens did THAT thing back in '81. Don't ask how I came back after that, but somehow I was hooked and bought my first season ticket for 81/82 (the best decision of my life).

The other half: She's never had any interest in football, but I've taken her once, against Barnsley at Oakwell back in 1990 in the FA Cup 5th round replay when (Agana?) scored a pen.

Daughter: Took her to her first game against WBA in 07/08 in a 1-0 as her 10th birthday present.

Fantastic

Was the Luton game the one where Stainrod stroked the ball towards the net at the Bramall Lane end, turned to run back towards The Kop to celebrate his hat trick only for the ball get stuck in the goal mouth mud before it crossed the line ??
Genuinely cannot remember my first game other than I'd just started school at the beginning of the 72/73 season so was deemed old enough to go.
I do remember for years & years though being completely in awe walking up the steps of Gangway 7 on John Street & seeing the ground (pre south stand) open up in front of me.

Yes, it was the Stainrod game. I have no memory of the incident. All I remember about the game is that it was raining very hard. I was only 5 at the time.

Used to live on Moor Street so Bdtbl just a stroll away. 1st time would have been about 1960/1961. My Dad took me to see Yorkshire ccc.

That game had the worst violence I've ever seen - by the police. Any Blade just singing got brutally carted off to the 'no mans land' between the two sets of fans and beaten up. I remember one cop ostentatiously pretending to tie up his boots but it was just to show everybody his footwear of choice - an enormous pair of dockers. Another Blade was attacked by four cops who dragged him (an arm and a leg each) and slammed him, head first, into a side of a vomitorium.

I do remember playing Luton at home in that era, it must have been the season before when we lost 3-0 (yes, I did look it up) & I'm pretty sure their keeper was a "team change" from the printed programme ....pretty rare thing, & he was called Milija Aleksic (yes, I definitely looked the spelling up). He had an absolutely blinder for them on the day if I remember rightly and there was no way we'd ever have scored past him*
When Happy Harry came later on I was hoping he'd go back and sign him for us but alas, it never happened......... we went on a run of piss poor to below average keepers for a number of years after that.
*Note: If anyone on here has a better memory than me in that it was the 4-1 game he played in and was in fact dire then please keep it to yourselves & don't ruin it for me. Thanks.

I remember Aleksic from the 1981 FA Cup final when he played for Spurs. I didn't know he played for Luton. Wikipedia also tells me that he was born in the UK and his father was from Yugoslavia. I always assumed he was one of the Yugoslavs that came over to British football at that time, but apparently not. So I have learned something today!

I'm in awe of all you that have such good memories! I know my first game was a night match against Leeds, watched from the lower teir of Bramall Lane, towards the cricket pitch, it would have been late 60's. Remember being terrified surrounded by so many tall people, the atmosphere was a bit tasty as well.

I have no idea what the first game I took any of my lads to, 2 of them season ticket holders, one has no interest in football. When I used to take him, he was the one playing on his Gameboy and asking as we left what the score was.

My first memory of a game with my eldest was the Palace play off final.

UTB

Took my three sons up for the game on Saturday and for the youngest (5yrs) it was their first; so thank goodness we won and it was a decent game. Got me reminiscing on other first games, my eldest saw a drab 1-0 defeat under Robson at Watford and the middle one a good win at Peterborough under Clough where Ben Davies got the winner near the end. For me it was a 2-1 win at Boro in '85 (I lived in the North East as a child, so it was nearer than Sheffield) but can't remember much about it. Then first home game a 3-1 defeat to Chesterfield under Basset when Agana scored and Stan the Man was sent off. That Chesterfield game was the one that got me hooked, true we lost but great atmosphere and a proper team effort. If nothing else, my youngest lad saw a United team committed to the shirt and to each other. Looking back to that Watford game again that was never the case and where our recent problems all started.
man city 3-3 draw in the seventies was the first time i took crack cocaine.. ahem. attended a game

I can't remember a worse time.
But you know that we've changed so much since then,
Oh yeah,
We've grown.

My first game was a crazy home win in the early 80's. The score ended up either 4-3 to us or 5-4.
For some reason Swansea sticks in the brain but I could be mistaken.

It was around '83 or '84, if any of you history buffs have any ideas which fixture it was it would remove an itch from my brain. Failing that if anyone can point me towards a good source of historical football results that goes back that far it would be appreciated.

Apologies for the lack of info but I was only 2 or 3 years old.

I do know it wasn't the world famous 5-4 against Brighton

New years day 1991 v QPR. Won 1-0 with Deano scoring at the Kop end where I was stood. I remember my dad picking me up when he scored and I cried and told him to put me down, 6 years old I was. This was the season we were promoted and went 16 games without a win, and managed to survive quite comfortably in the end.
