L**ds match was either in August 1972 or in April 1974 (loads of L**ds fans were there as they were not far off from clinching the League title). Both 2-0 defeatsFirst match for me was sometime in The seventies on the kop watching us play I think it was Norwich. Can't remember the score ...not sure I saw much either tbh.
Then saw United play Leeds. Early 70s we lost 2-0 , stood on the kop and I can remember it being extremely full( I was stood in front of a terrace railing)with children being passed onto the terrace and there were loads of Leeds fans in there too, but I don't remember any trouble.
Started attending regularly from 74/75 and have been going ever since.
Daughter went from 9 months onwards, sons first away match was at Chesterfield when he was 1 but my youngest hates football....don't know where I went wrong with her. Living in Nottingham the kids don't go that often, just Christmas and if I can get Wembley tickets.....oh and we all go if we play a Notts team.
Snap-ishOh, and 1-0 v Liverpool, 1978 I think. I was 10, my Grandma took me
This type of thread never gets oldI'm sure we've had this thread before. Mine was 0-2 defeat at home to Palace in div 2 in Sep 1978. Imre Varadi's debut and Woody's last home game. Cheets junior's was Estudiantes.
I went to that game there Kop were split in to two sections and both sets of fans were coining and throwing stuff at each other and I had my collar felt just after we scored our 2nd goal..got kicked out of ground and stood on banking with about 200+ other blades peering in from the corner.Might be wrong but I think you're referring to Wolves away on 9th May, 1989. Wolves were top and we 'manufactured' a 2-2 draw to secure second spot and where Martin Pike mistook the ref. blowing for a foul near the end as the final whistle. He chucked his boots into the crowd and had to play the last few minutes in his stockinged feet.
Anyway, April 23rd 1962. Away to Man. U. I remember it well but can't remember what I had for tea yesterday!
Was the Luton game the one where Stainrod stroked the ball towards the net at the Bramall Lane end, turned to run back towards The Kop to celebrate his hat trick only for the ball get stuck in the goal mouth mud before it crossed the line ??
Genuinely cannot remember my first game other than I'd just started school at the beginning of the 72/73 season so was deemed old enough to go.
I do remember for years & years though being completely in awe walking up the steps of Gangway 7 on John Street & seeing the ground (pre south stand) open up in front of me.

Yes, it was the Stainrod game. I have no memory of the incident. All I remember about the game is that it was raining very hard. I was only 5 at the time.
I do remember playing Luton at home in that era, it must have been the season before when we lost 3-0 (yes, I did look it up) & I'm pretty sure their keeper was a "team change" from the printed programme ....pretty rare thing, & he was called Milija Aleksic (yes, I definitely looked the spelling up). He had an absolutely blinder for them on the day if I remember rightly and there was no way we'd ever have scored past him*
When Happy Harry came later on I was hoping he'd go back and sign him for us but alas, it never happened......... we went on a run of piss poor to below average keepers for a number of years after that.
*Note: If anyone on here has a better memory than me in that it was the 4-1 game he played in and was in fact dire then please keep it to yourselves & don't ruin it for me. Thanks.
man city 3-3 draw in the seventies was the first time i took crack cocaine.. ahem. attended a gameTook my three sons up for the game on Saturday and for the youngest (5yrs) it was their first; so thank goodness we won and it was a decent game. Got me reminiscing on other first games, my eldest saw a drab 1-0 defeat under Robson at Watford and the middle one a good win at Peterborough under Clough where Ben Davies got the winner near the end. For me it was a 2-1 win at Boro in '85 (I lived in the North East as a child, so it was nearer than Sheffield) but can't remember much about it. Then first home game a 3-1 defeat to Chesterfield under Basset when Agana scored and Stan the Man was sent off. That Chesterfield game was the one that got me hooked, true we lost but great atmosphere and a proper team effort. If nothing else, my youngest lad saw a United team committed to the shirt and to each other. Looking back to that Watford game again that was never the case and where our recent problems all started.
