Took my three sons up for the game on Saturday and for the youngest (5yrs) it was their first; so thank goodness we won and it was a decent game. Got me reminiscing on other first games, my eldest saw a drab 1-0 defeat under Robson at Watford and the middle one a good win at Peterborough under Clough where Ben Davies got the winner near the end. For me it was a 2-1 win at Boro in '85 (I lived in the North East as a child, so it was nearer than Sheffield) but can't remember much about it. Then first home game a 3-1 defeat to Chesterfield under Basset when Agana scored and Stan the Man was sent off. That Chesterfield game was the one that got me hooked, true we lost but great atmosphere and a proper team effort. If nothing else, my youngest lad saw a United team committed to the shirt and to each other. Looking back to that Watford game again that was never the case and where our recent problems all started.

Either Arsenal or Southampton ( can't remember which) at home 1966. At 12 I was a late starter, with no familial or historical connection to Sheffield United, just a personal preference.

Me - 4-1 win v Luton on a wet Easter Saturday in 1978
Mrs Revolution: 2-1 win v Man Utd in 1991
little Revolution 1: 2-2 draw v Colchester in August 2007, Robson's first game in charge
little Revolution 2: 2-1 defeat v Bristol City in August 2014, first game of the season

I add family members, the results get worse.

Yes there is a worrying trend, by the time I have grandchildren (not for a few yrs please God) we'll be in the Conference North. Which Man Utd game was it, (my memory for dates is useless)? The Steve Bruce cup game or the Deano first PL ever? Or was it further back to the first season back when Robson was playing for them and Jones' long throws caused mayhem? Amazing to think the record we had against them during the early nineties...

The 1991 game when Robson played sweeper for them and Deano and Bradshaw scored.

Me - 1-0 v Liverpool Sept 1978
Mrs R - 3-0 v Port Vale Feb 1997
Ita - 2-0 v Fulham Dec 1999
Ito - 1-0 v Bolton Nov 2000

Full house (sort of)

Mine was the same as Cerebus. The 3-2 home win against the pigs in 1970. Grew up with best mate who was a pig and his Dad took me to the sty a few times. Never liked it and as soon as I got to BDBL knew I `d found my one love.
My oldest daughter had a season ticket with me for several years until studies got intense and my youngest is wanting to go more.

Remember it well, it was a night game and me and Dad drove down from Northallerton after school had finished. That was the first time I really thought we could actually stay up, lucky for us they rested some of their players. Can still picture Bradders running towards the Kop. Was that the year they beat Barca in the Cup Winners Cup final?

Yes, they rested people because of a CWC tie. I think Gary Walsh was in goal, and Darren Ferguson might have made his league debut.

Me - United v Ipswich - nowt nowt in about 85
Mrs - She's a Derby fan but her first Blades game was Derby v United in about 1995 she reckons
2 mini Beepees - tbc (my little girl is now 6 so will be going with me this season, lad is just 3 so a bit off for him)
The Dog - she watched us v Coventry on the telly last year, at my feet in the lounge and she pissed herself when Sharp scored.

25th April 1997 United 2-4 WBA.

I'd been pestering my dad for ages to take me but he refused to spend a penny on United "until they showed some bloody ambition".
Anyway, that Saturday he said he was going into town to get some fishing tackle and I needed to go with him. I was quietly seething because I knew United were at home that day and we were going to London Road, a stones throw from the ground. So we parked up and he started to walk toward the ground. That's when I thought "he's really taking the piss now".

The penny still hadn't dropped until we were right outside the Bramall Lane end and he smiled at me and said, "go on then get inside!".
I was in shock as I climbed the stairs to the upper tier and when I reached the top I saw the entire ground opened out in front of me. I'd never seen anything like it. It was only Bramall Lane but it may as well have been the Nou Camp to an 11 year old kid seeing the inside of the stadium (any stadium) for the first time.

Marcelo scored first I think (penalty), then we got pasted and my dad and blokes of a similar age were soon turning the air blue. Alan Kelly tried taking on three WBA forwards and promptly slipped on his arse for their third goal. I think Graham Stuart pulled another back for us.

The result didn't matter one jot, I decided that day that I was devoted to this way of life for better or worse, from that day forward.

Every single time I walk down the Kop stairs to this day, there's still that slight tinge of childhood excitement that I felt on that day nearly 20 years ago, even when I have to drag myself there.

It's funny how it just clicks at a club. I went to lots of Boro games in the eighties as they were a good side at the time but I felt nothing. More recently tried to do the right thing and took my eldest to Arsenal 2007-8 when they were a great team but the atmosphere at the Emirates was non existent. We went to half a dozen games (at some cost) but then an away day at Charlton (lost 1-0) did the trick and since then he was decided. This is what the arm chair football fans just don't get and never will.

Well put, wish you could bottle that feeling...

Boxing Day 1970 v Leicester as a tender 5 year old , sitting with Dad, Grandad and big brother in BLUT, the start of a life long love affair that shows no sign of abating.

Thanks for that, yes I remember Walsh in goal and the horrible blue check kit they wore.

. Alan Kelly tried taking on three WBA forwards and promptly slipped on his arse for their third goal..

Kelly had a leg injury in the 1st half and at half time he told the team not to pass the ball back to him but Chris Wilder "forgot" the instruction and passed the ball to him. Lee Hughes took advantage and scored. Kevin Kilbane scored a cracking goal for WBA in that match

That defeat left us 3 games to get the 3 points we needed to make the playoffs.

We managed one point, but luckily (!) Birmingham didn't beat Charlton on the last day so we snuck in the playoffs in sixth spot, much good it did us.

My dad - War time match
Me - My dad said he took me to watch the reserves before taking me to the home defeat against Blackpool in April 1966. He also took me to watch Spain v Switzerland at S6 in the World Cup (I was 4 and cant remember these matches!)
My elder daughter - 1-1 draw v Reading in March 1995
My younger daughter - 2-1 pre-season win against Blackburn in August 1997
My son - 1-2 defeat against Bolton in Nov 1999
My daughters have not attended any matches since 2006-07

Same owd same owd.

10th May 1997 - Ipswich Town Play Off Semi, I was 4. This is now my 19th Season Ticket since, I loved it. Wasn't great growing up in Leeds, when they were in the champions league and we were shite. Absolutely no regrets though!

After 'winning' the 2nd leg I was sure that we destined for promotion. Of all the play off disasters that was the worst in some ways because we actually thought we had a chance whereas by the time HT beat us we all just knew what was going to happen. It must have been 'character building' in Leeds but at least they've suffered since!

I thought we were going to win, having actually survived a 2 legged tie against Ipswich (where we never won) and having hammered Palace a few weeks before.

These days, as you say, I expect nothing in such situations.

This.
I stil get that feeling, and I'm 48. I've been to a fair few grounds (but not as many as some on here) and they don't feel the same as Bramall Lane, whether it's Mansfield Town or Man Utd. Watching the Blades from the Kop is in my DNA somewhere, it's just part of who I am.

Oh, and 1-0 v Liverpool, 1978 I think. I was 10, my Grandma took me.

As a six year old growing up in Doncaster I didn't have any affinity with Blades apart from one colleague of my dads who used to send me the match day programmes after every home game, each had a centre fold pull out and I remember putting posters of Mitch Ward, Petr Kathouro, Lee Sandford, Simon Tracey and BDTBL on my wall. Pestered my dad (Cockney, Brentford fan) to take me to a game to see these players who were on my wall but I had no idea how good they were.
Finally dad took me to a game - a 0-0 draw with Sunderland at the back end of the 1995-6 season (although we did have one ruled out for offside which at the time I thought was poor judgment from the linesman). Hooked ever since.

My Da used to take me ( lord have mercy on him ) , because at that stage his pig team were below us in league terms .
Dont know what game it was but it was old wooden john street stand , being patted on the head by his irish mates before game in pub , taxi up to ground at last minute , leaving (always leaving) early to get into town before the rush out , onto 71 up to norfolk park , listing to bbc sport on radio while getting satdi tea .
My father is no longer with us , but for me one of his greatest gifts was his time taking me to see the Blades , my son makes the trip over with me now , when I come into Sheffield it just feels right .
Win , lose or draw ,
Once a Blade always a Blade just about sums it up .
Thanks da R.I.P.

Feel like I've mentioned this a couple of times already on here so apologies if I'm starting to sound repetitive...

My first was a 6-0 win vs. West Brom in February 2000.

I must be the worst 'glory hunter' around.

My first game was 08 May 1993 (i was 9). Dad always worked Saturday's so was a little late to the party. My mum took me, I sat on the South Stand straight behind the exec seats.
Anyway, we won 4-2 vs. Chelsea. Andy Scott (7), Paul Rogers (16) and Dane Whitehouse (43 & 48).

My eldest went to MK Dons away for her first game. Won 1-0, Stefan Scougall.

Haven't dared to take the youngest yet (18 months).

I know mine was in 1959 and I think it was versus Norwich in the Cup. 1-1 draw. They beat us 3-2 in the replay in the 5th or 6th round I think. I definitely know I saw us draw 1-1 against Villa in the October of 1959.
