Do we give our youngsters enough of a chance??

Keep thinking about the young players we used to have coming through, and the amount from other clubs that make it in the prem, and always wonder why we rarely see any of our young players get to play in the first team??
Obviously Ramsdale returning will hopefully see him play in the first team, theres Billy too, but both left the club before coming good, Brooks has done it, Maguire played a while, but moved on, Kyle Walker......, we've had some great players, and I'm sure we would all like to see more, but it seems a while since weve brought one of the youngsters through and hung on to them, which makes you think, why??, are there really non good enough to hand a chance too?
Hope this all changes now we're in the Prem, and we build like Wilder keeps saying.

We are a premier league side. If your good enough to play in a premier league side that finished how we did at the age of 18 you will outgrow us by 19 anyway.

I think we have grown too fast to put faith in the youth players. The increase in demands over the course of 4 years is ridiculous.

We are having to play at the top of our game to compete, particularly in the PL. This means we can't afford to blood the youngsters in as we would like.

It's not very often that we are cruising in a game where we have chance to bring a kid on for 15 minutes

Once we are established - in other words having 3, 4, 5 seasons in the top flight then we may have attracted young players good enough to play regularly in the PL and make their way up the age groups.

Until that day comes then it will always be a risk to try and bring youngsters through.

Also this, if we have anyone who’s showing the level of talent like Brooks then it wouldn’t get ignored. The time will come though when we have another gem.

Giving a chance to youngsters is for potless Championship teams and potential league one candidates . It's too risky for a Premier League side to try unless there are another 9 or 10 top internationals in your side.

The youngsters you've mentioned all left for better opportunities elsewhere at that time.

It's more likely now that if we've got some good ones we could be loaning them out to teams in Championship or League 1 for development initially, like the other big clubs do

I have thought for many years that as a club we hang on to young players far too long. As far as I'm concerned if they are not knocking on the door by 18 they will not be good enough, we are still persevering with lads who are in their early 20's the ones that develop later are in the main an exception to the rule.
We are a grade 2 academy which means the talent will always go elsewhere and if we do find a gem then a big club just swipes them anyway.
Oh and in the past we had McCabe who would sell his daughter if he had one.

My only concern with that is that it’s a significant investment which will take upto 10 years to get a real return on. Great for when we’re an establish PL team, but I do like our more recent approach of picking up the talent released from the Cat1 academies and seeing if they can make it with us, like Brooks.

It’s very very rare that a youngster is given his first team debut in the premier league. Their usually loaned out to the championship/league 1 first
