Cos that's not the performance or energy I'd expect from a side that does.
Do they really want it?

Absolute polar opposite of the Coventry match. Sat in the car outside the Kassam absolutely head scratching at the moment.

That was absolutely dire. Only Peck can truly come out of there with his head held high.

Holding, Souza, O'Hare must start on Tuesday at the very least.

Fucking crap that.

Thing is we last played on Friday.

They’ve had plenty of time to be well rested.

Absolutely no excuses.

Even the bench looked very strong too.

You do have to wonder sometimes.

The 1st half was too casual, we started all wrong, slow tempo and wrong frame of mind.
Oxford were clearly up for it and simply pumped high balls into our box, it was a sunny day with a strong swirling wind and a really hard bouncy pitch.
They played the percentage game, we scrambled most of their attacks away but 1 goal mouth scramble luckily fell to their player.
Cooper hardly had anything to do 1st half but think they just about deserved to be leading 1-0, fair play to them.

2nd half as expected we were a different team, much more urgency
But Oxford simply parked the bus and everyone knows how difficult it is to break throw a packed defence.

Plenty of corners and goal mouth scrambles in their box but the ball always seemed to fall to their player.
When the ball did fall to one of our players they always seemed to have a defender throwing himself at the ball to get in a last ditch block or tackle.

Tried to score the perfect goal from the perfect slow patient build up against a team sitting in with 10 men. We were the architects of our own downfall today. We've forgotten how to break teams down when we go behind (clue: play the ball quicker and have players out wide).

Wilder chucked on 5 subs. Could have chucked on 10 if you aren't going to get the ball in the right areas and do it quicker rather than allowing them a to get back into their defensive positions again after you have finally drawn them out.

We tried to play every ball through the middle today into a packed defence. That's on the players and on management today. Poor today. Sigh.

Play fast, one touch football that cut open teams like Coventry and Boro? Fucking madness I tell thee!

Thought Peck was poorer than most, particularly first half.

Souza was dreadful and didn't look fit, but Choudhury not much better today.

Holding instead of who? Anel fucked up for the goal.

There was a strong wind and the pitch had been deliberately left dry so anything in the air made the ball bounce high. That made it difficult to begin with. Oxford caused us few problems apart from the long throws in the first half but it was enough.

That said, we were dogshite and there's no disguising that. We were pedestrian, didn't get the ball wide enough, didn't pass it quickly enough and though we had a couple of good chances in the first half we were out of ideas after an hour. Diaz today made Vinnie Jones look like Iniesta but I'm not blaming him because apart from Peck and Seriki the rest also looked like they'd got each others boots mixed up. Oxford battled for every ball and theirs was more of a typical United peformance over the years than ours was.

That kind of result has been coming, It's amazing we have such a good away record considering our performances.

I expect the players do. Not so sure I do though as days like today make me think it could be even more embarrassing than last time.

I disagree, think we'll be a lot better than last time because we'll actually likely buy some good players. I'm just not sure we've got what it takes to get there

I don't care if Anel fucked up for the goal, he had a shocker but he's a damn sight better than Robbo in every department apart from wanting to scrap the opposition

No, I just think he's piss poor and by far the worst defender of the 3? It's that simple. Knee jerk decisions like dropping our best defender in a game 'he' apparently made us lose??? aren't on my agenda I'm afraid

Do turkeys 🦃 vote for Christmas?? Under McCabe / Prince of Darkness their futures were not in doubt if we went up as we never spend . Under ambitious owners you think quite a few would be getting their cards in the summer . Keep us down happy days ! Ps I am not a MAGA theorist 😂

Anel fkd up 🤷🏼‍♂️ Campbell should hold dembele off switched off … loads of football left there’ll be loads of ups and downs it the championship

No idea why CW thought it was a better option to take off Campbell and leave both Anel and Robinson on the pitch. We needed to score, take one of them off (who kept passing to each other needlessly slowing the game down) and keep out top scorer on the pitch. Might have been an idea.

I mean, you can if you like?

I take it you haven't been either today?
Sorry I know you’re the biggest Blade ever ‘cause you go to most/every match. Note to self “always agree with Slim Man as he knows best”
We lost a game of football. The top team lost to a struggling team, fighting for their survival on a shit bobbly pitch in windy conditions. Never happened before in the history of the game. Never happened to us before and we’ve never done it to teams at the top.
Now stop crying, log out of S24SU, chill out and have a safe journey home. Then get ready for Tuesday night.

I agree with every single world there.

There is absolutely no way the players want it. If you take away the 27 wins this season or the fact we sit in second place, a point ahead of Leeds with 6 games to go, the players are gutless, spineless and couldn’t give less of a fuck about going up.

In fact I’m that much in agreement with you, I’m going to the match on Tuesday and whilst at the match, I’m going to run on to the pitch, smear myself in the middle excrement and set myself on fire in protest at the utter disgust I feel about today’s performance

I'm more worried about the tactics.

Can somebody please enlighten me as to what our actual style is? I genuinely don't know

We struggled to play out from the back, especially first half. This was caused by the hard, bouncy, bobbly, slow pitch. We never really found a solution for this and the game turned into a scrap. They won the scrap more often than not - most noticeably with the goal. When we did get in first half it was in the wide areas, particularly wide left. Later in the game they allowed us to play out as they sat deeper. The space was still in the wide areas but United continued to drive through the middle to little avail. Burrows went off the boil second half, and JRS and Seriki were too peripheral rather than being fed the ball. There was so many bad decisions made by our forward line and the lines of Hamer, Brewster, Burrows and Campbell throughout. I'd like to have seen Hamer in the ten and O' Hare out wide. Maybe keep Moore and Campbell on together. The big diags up to Moore had a measure of success but there wasn't enough bodies around him (although JRS had a good opportunity). United's set pieces were abysmal throughout which compounded everything I think if we take one of our chances the game changes radically, but we didn't and they did a good job on us. Fair play.
