I’d assume there’s also a reason he only scored 2 goals during those 27 Milan games.
 

Quick reminder that Djimmi Traore has a Champions League medal.

Sometimes players end up in the right group at the right time and it elevated their status well above their actual ability.

I'd also put Origi in that pot.

Scored some important goals, no doubt. But played for a team that always attacked a lot and created chances.

Now he's playing for a less capable, though still capable club in AC Milan. He's finding it difficult in what you could strongly argue is a lesser league.

He also missed games through three different injury types which doesn't bode well with our much documented problems.

It would feel like an expensive mistake. It feels a bit fur coat and no knickers to me.

To be fair, he scored a goal in the Champions League final so it’s not like he didn’t contribute
 
I’d rather throw the massive wage towards a fee for a young player with resale value. Im all for solid loan players, we’ve seen the benefit of this in recent seasons however progress surely comes with imitation of the Brighton/ Brentford model.
 
He appears to have only been a ‘success’ at Liverpool and no other club has looked to keep him very long. He has all the attributes of a top player, big, strong and quick with a powerful shot but does little with his talent
 
I dont think he will be scoring the goals that keep us up but I do think his pace and power could be very creative, if you can get some midfielders in box he could be useful
 

Problem for Origi has been that at his clubs there were always players better than him. Liverpool had Firmino, Salah, and Mane. Milan has Giroud playing like he's still in his 20's.
Not easy to tell how good Origi is at this point because he hasn't been at a club where he's the main forward for a long time. I think for a striker confidence is really important, and it's hard to build confidence when you're always the guy coming off the bench.

I do remember that Klopp really liked him though and only reluctantly let him leave.
 
I don't think this is a realistic target. He's supposed to be on €100k/week and has hardly played for any team he's been at over his career, whatever the reason for that is. He's clearly got talent and perhaps the reason as mentioned by others is that he's been at clubs that simply have even better options than him, and he's always been backup. Who knows what his stats would be like as the focal point of another team's attack? I do remember him being great when he did get his chances at Liverpool, and he doesn't exactly need to score a ton of goals for him to be worth it - Mousset and McBurnie only scored 6 each in the first season in the Prem, and they were crucial in keeping us up. A very very expensive gamble tho...

AC Milan still had Ibrahimovich playing last season as well, think that was only from the bench tho.
 
I'm genuinely very surprised at the reaction to Origi. All the forwards that we will have the budget to look at will not bring guaranteed goals. But what he has over all others linked is experience at a top level. You don't play for Liverpool and AC Milan if you aren't good enough. Archer is clearly our top target which now looks extremely unlikely, for me Origi is a great option

It's not an expensive gamble though is it? 100k a week is 5.2m a year and we get to give him back if he's shit.

Brewster was an expensive gamble and so will Archer be at 18m for a totally unproven premier league player.

In our situation you have got to be mad not to take a chance on him. As pointed out he's got all the attributes and never been the main man. If it doesn't work we are down 5m, if it does work we could have a top forward in our books.

Reasonable price, I presume,as usual that it was mentioned a couple of days ago what his salary is, is that figure correct? And does that mean it's what we would be paying him?
It always amuses me how figures mentioned at the outset become fact with some people a few days later.

Don’t we have to pay a substantial initial loan fee as well as wages (or subsidised wages)?

I mean this is partially the thing. If we were able to get another player like a Hamer in on loan, then I think it'll result in our forwards getting more/better chances, and there is much less of a need to bring in a forward. Of course, if a forward who's got the ability to create chances himself becomes available for the right package then we should be looking at him, but Origi isn't that
