We could have tried to buy him before we got Davies in on loan, and then developed him,as we are apparently a development club.
Pretty sure they're not selling and if they were you'd be looking close to £10 million.

Because, and this can't be stressed enough, we have the worst recruitment team in English football. Possibly all of professional sport.
I would have to agree they are not very good
Time for Mitchell and Co to depart ?
Hecky said we had missed out on a couple of CBs hinting that we may have been too late showing our interest

Hence the need for the academy to step up, as our recruitment team only have a 40mile work radius, and the rest they do online.....

That is my opinion too. For the last 3 seasons most of who we bought should not have been bought. Especially with the price of some of them. You would wonder about their ability to analyse a player.

The piece is the missing out on other targets for the multitude of reasons. Ending up with panic loans or panic buys.

Until the academy is Cat 1 it will inevitably be very difficult / impossible for it to compete with clubs such as Man C, Man U, Leeds and Derby in attracting top talent. Bearing that in mind, I'd say it has got a pretty impressive record of churning out decent players able to make a living from the game,. Unfortunately, the step to Prem level was too much for breakthroughs. Some will hopefully be more able to make it at the club while it's in the Champ. Ndiaye is obviously already doing well and Brunt and the lads at Southend probably have the best chance from the current group.

Time certainly looks up for the recruitment team and Paul Mitchell. I can’t really fathom how he’s still here if United World are wanting to implement their vision. Then again we’ve seen next to nothing that shows that’s going to come to much.

Worth stressing that Mitchell is head scout. He doesn't do the business of actually signing players. Pretty sure any delays or issues are likely to be Bettis and the Board.

We are back in for him apparently. Not sure if it’s a loan or permanent. Sunderland also interested.

Assuming Rothwell was going to be the one for free, then assuming Sanderson would be the transfer with a fee based on Bettis comments.

However not sure how long he has left on his contract but buying someone young from the league above would surely cost a pretty penny...

Wolves want £5 million from what I’ve heard

Reports in the media with differing amounts, some £5mill, £7mill, but most are stating £2million.

Would a moderately low price tag of £2million be beyond the prince's means/limit!!??

Is he of more value to the squad than Baldock? If so could in effect be a swap.

I guess it would depend on what we see as being a reasonable resale value for him in a few years. Bettis mentioned there being money available and the notion that we want to develop and sell on at a profit has been floated for a while.

2 million isn’t a particularly high fee for a young defender with a good amount of experience these days so at that figure I’d be fairly confident of recouping our money or making a profit in the future. It’s not much more than the fee MK are reportedly wanting for their lad.

Did he actually do much for QPR? Genuine question btw as i have no idea other than remembering he was a sub when we played them at the Lane and JLT decided to power slam him in the away game!

Spot on slug, no better than what we've got. He's been poor for QPR.

From what I’ve seen… which is little I’ll admit… Darling would be my preferred target.
Are we after both though?

There would be space for both we really only have 3 senior centrebacks and our 2 academy lads who haven’t got that much experience yet.

Could be an element of getting the £2m price for Dion Sanderson (22 with two seasons of Championship football) as a negotiating tactic with MK for Darling (22 with no experience of Championship football).

Not sure where in the back 3 the players we're being linked with play but in reality we need at least 2 players in that area as we don't currently have any back up barring the youngsters, who I'm really not sure are ready yet.

Realistically if we want 2 players for each position we need 3 CB's but surely we can find 2 with at least one of them able to deputise for Egan if need be.

Sanderson and/or Darling both look right footed so in theory could push Bash or Egan. Clarke-Salter is left footed so could push JLT.

One things for sure it's probably the area where we have the least options if injuries or loss of form happen.

He wasn't that impressive at QPR but it wasn't him who got thrown on the floor.

Sanderson and Clarke-Salter would be good business.

Yeah I think an ideal situation for a back 3 would be carrying 5 CB’s with the two not playing able to cover/compete with the start three. Hopefully we won’t see another injury crisis next year which saw us needing 6/7 at times this year.
