The ones slagging him off aren't exactly people with opinions that can be taken in any way seriously. Best to just hear it, smell it, be mildly discomfited by it for a few seconds & then let it harmlessly dissipate into nothingness like a pungent fart.
The moral voice of the Board has spoken.
So, if you disagree with "he's been one of our better players this season", you can't be taken seriously and your opinion should be treated like a fart? Wow!
Not that I'm overly-bothered whether you take me or anyone else seriously, you understand, but he has been (in my opinion) dreadful this season. His aerial prowess has been every bit as bad as his first touch, which has been every bit as bad as his work rate, which has all been nearly as bad as his finishing.
I'm all for not 'abusing players on social media', believe me, as someone who was very positive about him coming to the club no one wants to be proven more wrong than me, but pointing something out as an opinion, even if it is negative, isn't 'abuse'.
IMO, McBurnie on this Board seems to be like 'The Emperor's New Clothes'. He 'should' be good, the Manager keeps picking him, and his team-mates are backing him, but the result is he's been crap most of the time and many can see it with their own eyes.

I had a conversation on WhatsApp about the latest craze.."clear cut chances". Using a bar of 0.3 xG as a "clear cut chance" McBurnie has missed four and the frustrating thing is that none of these has resulted in a brilliant save (ie the PSxG was lower than the xG)
  • Header vs Fulham* 0.40 xG
  • Left footed shot against Liverpool* 0.32 xG
  • Right footed shot against West Ham 0.38 xG (nb not the shot off the bar, that was 0.28 xG)
  • Left footed shot against West Brom 0.47 xG
*The Fulham header and the Liverpool shot were probably offside and would therefore have been disallowed by VAR.
Do you not think 0.3 is a bit low for a “sitter”? As I understand it, that means that only 30% of similar chances are scored. Surely a sitter would have an xG of above 0.5?

If he was good enough for this level he would have buried the chances he's already had

Im no XG nerd but I’m not sure there accurate XG the leftfooted shot was near the edge of the area and the keeeper had everything covered no way was that an XG of 0.5 not a chance
The West Brom left foot one? It was a glaring miss: see below. McBurnie's body shape is all wrong, all he needed to was pass it into the bottom corner.

The surprising thing is that wasn't the 'big' chance: that was a near post flick a minute prior following the well-worked freekick:

We were trying to reconcile back to the 14 missed according to whoscored.com. Chances we've missed above 0.5xG according to infogol:

Sharp v Wolves (0.55 - can't be correct, Sharp doesn't miss chances)
Lundstram v Villa (0.80, penalty)
Robinson v Leeds (0.65)
Mousset v West Brom (0.71)

Whatever our personal views of McB, no-one surely can argue that he has failed to deliver for over a year. Personally I think he's playing one or maybe even 2 divisions above his true standard.

Sharp v Wolves (0.55 - can't be correct, Sharp doesn't miss chances)
This season? That wasn't on the highlights...unless it was the one that was in the back of the net but ruled out for a foul.

He's frustrating to watch at times but this is far too harsh. He did okay last season considering he was stepping up a division and playing in a team that didn't create much, especially after Christmas. He's done very well at Championship level prior to that so to suggest he's League One level is well wide of the mark.

That said, he's bang out of form at the moment and needs to be dropped ASAP in my opinion. It's nice to Didzy to support his mate and I'm always going to oppose abuse of our players on social media...but McBurnie is not doing the business at the moment.

It’s hard, do you keep him in and hope one chance is taken and helps restore some confidence, but risk the pressure growing with each miss or take him out of the limelight ?

I kind of feel it’s a similar thing with ramsdale and the lack of clean sheets this year (and last.) Hopefully if one comes others will follow!

surely surely him or another of the players will score sooner or later! We are creating chances

Ok I've just found the 'chance' (which on another site was called 0.2), if you really care about the stuff you post I suggest you watch the extended highlights (United version) from 8:42 and see how laughable it is to see that as a 0.55xG

Ramsdale doesn't fill me with confidence but the stats show he's doing okay and on our list of problems at the moment I don't think he makes the top ten.

McBurnie we are in danger of breaking if we leave him in the firing line. I'd be looking to start with Burke and Brewster this weekend.

Woah woah, the 2 things are totally incomparable Ramsdale in general has played well, McBurnie had one decent game v Liverpool where he had another close range shot that missed the target.

If you have an issue with it take it up with infogol. I'm just passing on the data.

Given that and the McBurnie chance against West Brom it may be that the Infogol model overrates chances under pressure from low, near post crosses onto a striker's favoured foot.

McBurnie's Championship record is 31 goals in 59 appearances. He's clearly not two divisions above his true standard.

There’s a massive difference between slagging him off and commenting that his finishing this season has been terrible.
NO! Either produce stats (they always leave one important one out, don't they?) which says relegation is a small price to pay for developing him, or call him a useless melt.

No in between please.

Perhaps I didnt phrase that very well. As you say ramsdale has been ‘fine’ so far. Couple of shakes moments and a couple of good saves. I think he probably been an average PL keeper which is not a bad thing.

I meant if he keeps a clean sheet it will hopefully give him some more confidence and improve his performances. It’s not his fault he’s been playing behind a patchwork defensive line - but a couple of clean sheets could really help him his self belief to push on to what we hope he can be. I think for him as well he’s barely won a game for the best part of 2 seasons - that can’t be nice to deal with regardless of if it’s down to him or not.

He scored a goal every 2 games at championship level. No way is he 2 leages above. Wont ever be a top Premier league striker but I won't write him off as a lower end Prem striker.
