Robert Lewandowski nearly signed for Blackburn Rovers! He's one of the best goalscorers there's been and i bet there's thousands of stories like these... i love them me :D:D

I recall hearing a story about 12 years ago that Drogba turned up at Southampton for a transfer in 2004 and turned them down.
Paul Sturrock greeted him with a t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops with the t-shirt having fried egg sandwich stains down it. Sturrock took training with the side whilst sat on a park bench. Drogba made a hasty exit and signed for Chelsea the year after.
Thought it was Papa Bouba Diop? He signed for Fulham instead.

Blackburn don't need Zidane, they have Tim Sherwood

It was just a recommendation from the French scout/ friend, ex player Lauren D’Jaffo.

Drogba was playing for Le Mans in the French 2nd division and D’Jaffo told Warnock he was exactly his type of player.
Big, strong with decent ability on the ball and a decent goal scorer. His record was 12 goals in 64 matches.

D’Jaffo told Warnock he was available for £100,00. Warnock said the valuation was far too high for an untested French division 2 player and no way would the board even consider it and then in 2002 he signed for French top flight club Guingamps for £80,000 instead where he scored 20 goals from 45 matches.

Warnock said that when Drogba went from Guingamps to Marseille then on to Chelsea, Lauren D’Jaffo would ring him each time and gloat that he was the young player he rated so highly and recommended to him.
Warnock has a real knack for making United look small time at every opportunity, especially when we were in the Prem.

Now he exaggerates the situation at the time to try to emphasise what a great job he thinks he was doing.

He’s a wanker of the highest order.

I once thought he was the bees knees, how stupid and naive of me.

Neil Warnock is a fan of Neil Warnock. I wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire.

If there was any doubt as to what a cunt he is, the jigging about on the Bramall Lane turf after his Cardiff side beat us earlier this year clinched it. It should never be forgotten by any Unitedite.

Neil Warnock is a fan of Neil Warnock.

He’s a manipulator, bigs himself up whenever he can and tells his audience what he thinks they want to hear.
When he was at United, the fans were special, when at Leeds the fans were special, then at Palace they were the best fans, then at QPR their fans were special, then at Cardiff the fans are so passionate and special.

Suppose that what makes him a good manager, he knows how to charm individuals with bullshit.

Warnock just been on TalkSport saying he could have signed Drogba when he was our gaffer. No detail as to whether he was just recommended or if it went further than that but another player to add to those who could have graced a football pitch in Sheffield.
That's fuck all mate we could have signed Maradona an all , but she decided to go into a singing career !

Drogba was a egotistical shithouse of the highest order. Could've been one of the best & had all the skills to do so. Decided to play to 70% of his capabilities & spend the rest of the time moaning, diving, feigning injury and involving himself in nonsense.

United lost out on Aldridge & Houghton in '85ish when they were at Oxford.

Problem was NC at the time we couldn’t compete with Robert Maxwells Oxford revolution that was being financed by the Mirror Group Newspaper’s Pension fund !

So Haslam missed Maradonna and Warnock missed Drogba. What's next Mick Adams turned dow a trial for Ronaldo?

I don't remember who the manager was but I believe we once had the chance to sign both Ian Wright and Mark Bright for a paltry amount , around 60k combined I think , and the board refused to sanction it .

That must be up there with the worst ever - imagine their value in today's market .

Im a fan of neil warnock. I dont get the hate & is the most successful manager ive seen in person currently more than wilder he took us to FA cup semi & League cup Semi, Play Off final, Lost 1 league derby in 8 & 1st Sheffield double in 15yrs. Also promotion to the premier league & the 20+ thousand crowds we been steadily getting last decade are a legacy of warnock reign

But i am disappointed even in 2006 or 07 when this has been supposedly done. before world went money mad 100k isn't that much of a gamble surely. Considering he had 4m on davis 1.75m on akinbuyi. But this punt is more of an wilder signing as i can see him taking a chance on potential unlike Warnock with tried and tested

He wouldn’t have fit here anyway, he was too good for us. if a young Drogba was infact good we would sell him for a pittance and not see the cash again anyway.

£100,000 is a lot to gamble on a striker though. I agree with Warnock, far to much for us to risk.
The only team that would have benefitted from it would have been Chelsea, they'd have bought him from us for a £1million instead of the £25 million that they had to pay Marseille

He could have bought him "for the future".

He spent heading towards £3m for the future not that long after.....

No t sure if I'm understanding your post correctly but Drogba joined Chelsea in 2004 and was an integral part of their team in our PL season.

He's spent years slagging United's spending off and now says £100k was a lot to risk.

Which is what I assume you're commenting on Danny :) . The fuckwittery.

This would have been around 2002 I’m guessing. We generally didn’t pay fees at that time.

For context we paid around £70,000 for Carl Asaba the year before and that was seen as a fairly big purchase.

Warnock had also had his fingers burnt with Patrick Suffo - paid a decent fee for the Cameroon international and Olympic Gold Medalist only to find he was serving an 8 month ban for spitting at a linesman.

Heard that one before but a brief look at their careers suggests that was highly unlikely, unless Steve Coppell had a brief period of insanity.

He doesn’t half talk some shit , fooking clown.
He says anything to get a bit of publicity.

Ian Wallace. Coventry striker. Might have been around same time as not signing Alan Hansen. Clough snr paid about a million quid for him later on.
Someone will put me reyt.
As usual.
