Did you listen to music which came out after 1999?

Leonard Cohen released his best stuff after 1999 imo. Also, as someone has mentioned, Dylan's Modern Times is a classic. Also the Arctic Monkeys of course, and staying local, Richard Hawley has had some good stuff out. Indie bands like Kaiser Chiefs. Also Green Day's 21'st Century breakdowm, probably summat by the Foo Fighters. Actually can't think of much more that's particularly outstanding.

Agree about Modern Times. The only 'new' music I listen to is his stuff and thats mostly old stuff now. The wife tried getting me into some modern stuff but it didn't work.

Moullettes - Constellations

That'll do for now, thanks.

Crikey, looks like I didn't miss much.

Staying local is hard, as one of the best bands (and who arguably led the Arctic Monkeys style) are devout pigs...

Anything by Big Pat Ryalls and his band 'The Sons of El Roacho' will get the feet tappin.. Decent YouTube video filmed partially in The Riverside and streets of Shalesmoor..

Personally, I'm turning the clock back and realising that vinyl albums between 1969 and 1973 are the place to be if you like a guitar and a rhythm. Rock before prog was invented is made for vinyl...

The irony. Use Richard Hawley's 'Tonight these Streets are Ours' as Blades leave by Penistone Road and Leppings Lane.

Plenty of decent songs from The long Road by Nickleback

Yes 90% of my music collection is after 1999 but then i was only 9 in 1999, but id avoid me as i probally have a cheesy collection

Agree re music in general after 99 but there is the odd belter imo.

Amy Winehouse was a brilliant talent with a great soul voice. Suprised she hasn't had a mention.

You know that I'm no good from 2007 might be apt for the relegation season.

'If you got the Money' by Jamie T from 2006 is a decent song with a decent background music for football - maybe good to play when we first see Ade Akinbadbuy :)

Also honourable mention to 'Gay Bar' by Electric 6 from 2006.

Bit later but also like a lot of Paulo Nutini and Amy MacDonald.

Also anything by The Libertines who I love. Time for Heros is brilliant and would be a good fit.

I have to admit I'm a bit stuck in the nineties, but do keep trying to stay with it - though not in a "kid's" way, the charts are just crap. Snow Patrol, Razor Light, Killers, all pretty good if bordering on middle of the road. One of my favourites post 20th C has to be I Am Kloot.

In the unlikely event you want any hip hop:

2001:
IZZO (H.O.V.A.) - Jay Z
Witness- Roots Manuva
Smash Sumthin- Redman

2002:
Work it - Missy Elliot
Loose Yourself or Without Me - Eminem
Lean Back - Terror Squad

2003
Where is the love? - Black Eyed Peas
Act a Fool - Ludacris
Through the Wire - Kanye West

2004
Overnight Celebrity- Twista
Drop it Like it's Hot - Snoop Dogg & Pharrell
How We Do - The Game

If this isn't falling on deaf ears, then there's plenty more

January 23rd 1978 to be precise. Bit of a teaser for you as to why.

Nice one, just looked it up. That's the day Terry Kath shot himself.

Still reckon 1979 was worse. BDM, Thatcher came to power and worst of all, the eve of the decade of new fucking romantic. The worst music genre of all. Ever.

I'm absolutely appalled at myself as an old punk, for seeming to defend The New Romantic shite but what about the 'Girl Power' dog wank?

Spice Girls, All Saints, Girls Aloud.......FFS they didn't even pretend not to sing.

Aye but there was some nice totty to letch over.

Are you currently working on building a wall in the Central Amercian area?

I'm too insignificant to offend anyone or make them outraged so I can generally say what I want and get away with it. And I preferred Atomic Kitten thank you very much.

I'm outraged by that.

Where do I get my compo?

You have to follow protocol. First of all you have to write a passive-aggressive open letter on Facebook. Once you get 5,000 likes this qualifies you to start a petition on change.org. Once this garners you enough support you attend a 30 second interview on Look North (don't forget to maintain the hangdog expression for the full duration). Then, and only then, once people consider you sufficiently outraged, the donations come flooding in.
