Another thread to while away the long summer months. In answering a different thread, I realised for the first time that United played on the day I was born - at home to Preston at the end of the 46-47 season, at a time when cricket should have been the sport going on. We lost 3-2. If only I had been told this earlier, I could perhaps have been spared years of misery and stress. Would be interested to know the Blades-related events that happened on the day others on here were born.

Nope, but our first match after I was born was a 2-1 win over Leeds on 6th April 1993.

Born on a Sunday in July back in 1949. Back then no one or nothing would have been playing.

Not on my birth date which was Thursday 11th Feb 1971, but 2 days later on the 13th we beat Charlton Athletic away 2-0.

Come on Silent Blade , who scored, what was the attendance and who was the ref?
Woodward and Dearden scored. TC missed a penalty (did the same in the previous week at home to Luton). Don't know the attendance! That day I was watching Blades v Wolves reserves match. Hodgy was in goal. Don't think he played in another reserves match after this one

Disappointing.

Hahaha! Great fact re Hodgy.

We won 0-1 away at Blackpool the day I was born, it was the 82 season where we eventually went on to win the old 4th division against Darlington, obviously this season is the first in a long 35 year's that we've won any silverware since then.

A five-minute trawl through the record-books shows that my birth was even more remarkable than I could have believed. May 24, 1947, is the only time in their history that United have played a competitive game on May 24th. This undoubtedly proves that I am the BIGGEST BLADE EVER. Unless, of course, you know different.;)

Yes, or as my Dad refers to my birthday, John Ebbrell day, so my dad missed the infamous John Ebbrell's only appearance for United!

I was at that game and fair play to John, in his only 45 minutes, he managed to provide an "assist" for the own goal that gave us a 1-0 lead. We won the game 2-0 with Andy Walker scoring the other.

How am I doing Silent Blade ?

Five days old United beat Notts County 1-0 1958, been down hill ever since.
