Di Matteo

I think everyone would admit to saying this would be a statement of intent. Yesterday I checked on Eddie Newton who is usually his assistant and he is currently out of work.

Starting to think that if it was someone in work who had been approached it would have got out by now. What do you think Sitwell?

If it's Di Matteo I'd be delighted. We need a manager that will take us to the Prem and keep us there. I believe that we need to get out of this League and then in the Chumpionship (sic) re-address the style so that when you get to the Prem you can adapt much more readily. It is too big a gap from Championship to the PL.

If we can start the style change now then that's fine but unless it's Di Matteo then it needs to be in stages. And by style change I mean get some bloody wins with it, not fart-arsing around to please the Pinchyites whilst taking us near League 2 in the process.

Would love it to be true, but doubt he's top of the list - and if he were, doubt he'd take the job.

Are people seriously thinking that a bloke who won the Champions League just under 18 months ago would come and drop down to League one?

I have to agree with you on that Highbury.
However he was in the right place at the right time.

But wouldnt it be just a dream to have someone to go on 'a journey' with us through the leagues with HRH's fortune.

Well on the odds checker Sitwell's mate must have put a shed load on as Di Matteo has come down to 12/1 with Bet Victor (maybe Sitter's mate is 'Maurice'). Sky have Clough 1/10, Stan James 1/5. Everyone else's odds are lengthening.

So the club who was turned down by McCall, Robinson, etc is about to appoint a European cup winner. Not a chance. The next manager will be Morgan. I have said in other posts we have to be realistic, we are bottom of division 3. There won't be a choice. It is anyone stupid enough to take it.

Wasn't he alledgedly interviewed when Danny was given the job but we couldn't match his terms ? He doesn't seem to have been linked to the Prem jobs up for grabs recently and surely we could now match his demands (unless they've rocketed again since Chelsea) so seems a reasonable shout.

Would certainly be the 'name' The Prince would be looking for and he's lost a play off on penalties in this Division so ideal ;)

Said it many times before but this is potentially one of the best jobs outside the Premier League, even now. Given the investment, I can see why plenty would it as an attractive challenge. There's always their pay-off to look forward to later in the season as well :)

Fancy a £20 bet on that? Winnings to be paid to this site's upkeep.

If Morgan gets the job on a non-caretaker basis I will happily pay up. Will you do the same if the job goes to someone else?

Not if you listen carefully to Phipps interview with Walker "experienced manager" comes to mind.

You're a little bundle of joy :)

"Challenge" is an understatement ! There wasn't many saw as attractive in the summer. I think rose tinted blade specs there.

As I say, that was before the investment. If you believe the ITKers, there were a few managers who have turned us down in the last 12 months either because there was no money to spend or we couldn't match their terms. Both those factors have changed.

Morgan has as much chance of being our next manager as Di Matteo no fuckin chance
Hope you are right, but he is the man in possession and if we do sneak a win today he will be after it. My worry is there will be no other candidate so he gets it by default.

I wonder if the SKY cameras will be fixed on the directors box for as long as they're tracking play today ???

Might be a good thing.....

Would be a decent move but I doubt he would take the job plus we wanted him before we got Wilson in. He wants decent terms which we can offer but he can do better elsewhere obviously.

Is it just me that thinks DiMatteo was a very lucky manager? I am not saying that he was a bad manager but he had a lot of luck on the way to winning the Champions League and without that on his CV his record is no better or no worse than the others that do the circle of Premier League clubs, Hughes, Bruce etc etc. He got out of Chelsea at just the right time and preserved his reputation.

Didn't DiMatteo also get Chelsea playing effective but not necessarily attractive football..? Pinchy will be livid at this thought :)

He has managed reasonably successfully at our level, achieving a win rate of almost 52% at MK Dons and taking hem to third place. He also had a win rate of 48% at West Brom.

I regard him as a better candidate than Nigel Clough.
