other than Turnbull......don't we need to start signing players sharpish!!?....( no pun intended!)

I share that desperation.

Ideally, I'd of liked Adkins to have a few names already in mind for CB from before he was appointed as it is so obvious we need improvement there regardless of who we have already. Then, ideally we'd have had them in by now if not thorough talks ongoing, to enable them to have the best chance to gel with the rest of the squad. It seems as though he's taking an approach whereby he fancies his chances at looking to improve some of what we have into a league one winning side, unfortunately I don't think that's not possible if we have any aspirations of promotion. 4/5 signings at least i'd say.

Then again, on the other hand, it could be a positive that he's assessing his squad thoroughly to really make sure of which areas are at most need of improvement. I just hope he doesn't end up leaving it too late and the squad aren't able to have the chance to form partnerships such as at CB and ST and NA isn't able to properly instil his philosophy on his own squad of players before and/or during pre-season friendlies. That said, there's something about NA that convinces me we are going up next season.

In Adkins we trust.

I'm sure he has names in mind he just wants to assess what he has first before making any adjustments.
I don't understand statements like that. Take CB for example. Why assess what we have when almost everyone knows that there is a massive gap in the CB position, and that fact has been acknowledged by almost everybody on this forum at least once i'd say, that CB definitely needs to be improved. It's so obvious. If it needs to be improved, as said by the majority of blades fans including me, why not improve it as soon as possible instead of waiting to 'assess what we have' when we all know what we have is not good enough, hence why we're still in league one.

When I saw Turnbull from Scunthorpe, I thought "I haven't heard of him" and thought it was like one of those names from the list of the 1922 Barnstoneworth United winning team in "Golden Gordon" Ripping Yarns that the son is forced to quote over dinner. Then I saw his picture and my heart sank as I thought he would lack pace and endurance. When I read he was the Scout I thought thank god for that. Finally I thought I need to get a life rather than looking on the net for the name of the team in Ripping Yarns. It was a good show though. 8 bloody 1.

I'm sure he has plenty of names in the frame that he is looking at. He isn't signing anyone until he has assessed what we actually has. I'm sure he has a lot more information available to him than is available to us as well which he will be analysing.

Adkins is right to look at the players he has. Just remember what Clough did when he was appointed? He saw two players who were unimpressive, had a word with both, and from that moment on Flynn and especially Murphy have performed consistently well. I'm not suggesting anything as fruitful as that will happen (although if that should happen I'll be delighted), Adkins needs to look at his squad and quickly assess where we can improve. I know posters on here realise the need for defensive strengthening, but Adkins does need to satisfy himself that he's going to arrive at the correct decisions for the season ahead.

No need to panic guys Adkins and Co will be fishing in a pond far larger than just Derby. Blackpool and the backwaters of Scotland, I have a feeling we may well see a few oversea players sign this summer.

Crapper, Hagerty F, Hagerty R,...

People need to remember that Adkins has not properly assessed this squad yet. How can he blindly make signings to a team he doesn't know? Yes nearly every supporter agrees we need centre backs, but what if Adkins sees a future in Collins and Magahey for example? (Not saying that is a future partnership, it is just an example) Adkins may see a greater need for another position.

It doesn't take a 2 week assessment to know we need 2 bloody centre backs. It's perfectly possible for a manager to sign straight away if he has researched the squad and watched lots of clips of last season of where we went wrong and where we need to improve. Look at Derby and Watford, doubt many have questioned their new managers early signings, and both were appointed at the same time and after Adkins respectively. Nothing negative towards anyone at the club, i'm just saying it's perfectly possible. If it's perfectly ok for championship and premier league sides to do it, then I don't think league one will be of any exception.

The usual twitter rumour bollox I suppose, but Mike Stephenson 87 reckons Sharpe deal is now done.

It wasn't done a short time ago. Not sure if it is or not now.

Previously he wouldn't drop to this level, I'd imagine time has changed that to not dropping to a certain level in terms of wages instead.

We've bought a new pie machine to be used in the Bramall Lane End

A lot of sense in that. However, there's very little transfer movement anywhere at the moment. Lots of rumours and paper talk, but nothing else. It's a buyer's market as half-decent players (which is all we need) are two a penny.

Could be a lot worse. At least we've got a manager in place. Over in S6 the old, rusting hulk - HMS Tuna - is drifting with no manager in place after 3 weeks.

Dont think it will be dormant and and no movement on the CB front , bearing in mind the new season is fast approaching . He may already have 1 or 2 CB lined up , who may know each other and played together before . We are getting close to the wire for preseason friendlies for bedding them in , and don't want a strangers in the night issue , at kick off.

Interesting that the Star says that agents were advised not to start talks with the club until Turnbull arrived.

That would suggest the club are confident that maybe it is a "buyer's market". I assume we'll start on Turnbull's list first.

Making a team is much more than just playing ability. He wants to see what kind of mental state our players are in, and what other players would most suit our current players mindsets.

yes buying someone today will prove much better than buying someone when they all get back off holiday

its essential we buy someone in June so they are ready for AUGUST 8th
buying them now weeks before we start training means they will be sharper fresher and better prepared than other players who need other players to train with, lets buy players that can look good sat at home till mid July

I'm sure it won't be long but don't you think there is more to it than Need CB -> Buy decent CB?

He needs to get the right man available, he might be planning to buy a pairing in which case they need to compliment each other and fit in with the rest of the side. He might want to study the weaknesses of the current players that he will be using to make sure he minimises them with a new signing. Whoever he has in mind might be away still or weighing up career options, possibly dependant on other moves higher up the food chain. There's no end of reasons why he may have not signed players.

I think in a lot of cases, (generally I mean, not just us) the deals have been agreed but the paperwork won't be signed until they get back from their holidays. It does sound a bit bizzarre with the technology we have these days but I've heard several reasonably credible pundits saying this.

whats the fecking rush ,,,,, Adkins hasnt seen what we already have , lets get back next week , let him sort the wheat from the chaff , then , and only then , he can actually target what he thinks we need
Why throw money at players we might already be able to provide , he might go che adams and de gerilamo , making some buys a waste

let the guy get his picture of his wife and kids on his office table
