Derby day acid attack rumour?

I really despise these knob heads who bring shame on us all with their antics. Whether that’s theirs or ours, I sincerely hope they get their comeuppance.

I also wouldn’t hesitate reporting to the police if I saw someone throwing something no matter which side they were on and I would definitely be a witness in court if required.

Utter scumbags.

I think what we saw yesterday prematch is the changing face of trouble of football. Not so long ago seasoned hooligans would typically not engage in those kind of antics. Preferring to stay out of sight and hope for a 'meet' or encounter somewhere else, away from the glare of the police and cameras. But there are now so many cameras and stiff penalties that most trouble involves under 18s who probably just get a telling off. Usually chucking stuff at each other while under police escort. I've no idea if the BBC or OCS even exist anymore? To me it just looks like chavvy kids taking on the mantle of the older generation of hooligans but preferring to hurl abuse at each other and throw missiles.

Despite some fans being stupid, I seriously doubt anybody is taking acid to a game to throw at someone. Also if it did happen, there would be proof. Also the police would have issued a statement. Absolutely BS. Never happened

15 year olds playing at being hooligans and the Police playing at being a military counterinsurgency force.
Agree with commenters above that the over-the-top police presence makes the crowd problems far worse than they would otherwise be.
And the rumour of an acid attack is very, very, very difficult to believe. Someone making up a story to get likes on Facebook I suspect.

I do wonder to what level a police escort actually encourages it. People are a lot more brave on all sides when they know they can do and say things consequence free. I sit quite near the away end, and enjoy the banter etc as much as anyone, but you see a lot of 20 somethings gesturing to each other to fight outside knowing they're never actually going to get anywhere close to each other. You predictably see a lot less on Bramall Lane after the match, where both sets of fans can quite freely mix.
I think so. It’s an easy target really. Last season at Hillsborough we deliberately avoided the escort off the tram to avoid being sitting ducks for having shit thrown at you. Just walked our own way - don’t wear colours, so nobody knows who’s who, other than me not looking like most Wednesday fans and not resembling that monster from The Goonies.

I thought Alex was describing the aftermath of him being presented with a salad, for a minute.

wednesday fans choose this way of coming to the lane united fans used to march enmasse to the sty but that stopped years ago if our fans marched down langsett rd we would get the same treatment at hillsbro corner i think were getting close to what happened in glasgow with no away fans allowed and thats totally opposite to what i used to love about sheffield derby's with 10/12k away fans in attendance

I think your mistaking the hand signals!

They aren't suggesting having a fight, they are trying to get each others phone numbers for a bit of mutual pleasuring.

Next time you see a video of them doing it just sing a bit of Barry white to it, it makes much more sense...

What do you want to hear about from Clive Betts, the ladyboy image or the acid attack? 🤦🏼‍♂️ went over your head me thinks 🤣
It did,I was up at 4.30 this morning and travelled to Manchester airport, der ! It was as like the Krypton factor at that time of the morning. 👍😀

Bollocks. Nothing unusual about what goes in Sheffield on derby day compared to any other city. There’d have to be a succession of serious incidents for anything like that to happen.

I've heard from the work pig and also from my sister-in-law who knows a pig that went to the match that at least one person was hit by acid prior to the match, thrown by United fans at Wednesday fans.

The person she knows posted on Facebook saying it was a friend of his called Ruth who was taken to the Northern, and then later on Facebook posted that it was "children, women and old folks hit by bottles of acid".

Now I'm not saying this didn't happen, although I find it very interesting that no proper news outlts have mentioned this supposed "atack" or indeed "attacks" at all.

Surely something this serious would have made the news? Wouldn't the police be appealing for witnesses? Did it happen, or is it just nonsense?

Edit - if this did happen and anyone saw it, contact the police.
It's rude to throw acid in some people's eyes. (Might be a Jimmy Carr joke)

I'm guessing this is as untrue as when they claimed bottles of piss rained down on them at previous games from the BLUT. I was in there for the 3-2 under Blackwell and with the netting and 80% of them being under the stand, it's just not possible. I also saw no one even trying to goad them from up there either, let alone throw anything. On that note, can anyone really be arsed to try and piss in a bottle of carling anyway. Too much personal jeopardy involved.

Stick a freedom of information request into SYP and include asking how much for the season. It'll be enlightening.
Can't be bothered to go that far - but I did find this from 2019:
A BBC investigation showed that last year's fixture between Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United at Hillsborough was the most expensive policing operation for a match in England, costing £203,000. The home club was billed £41,000 by the police.

Looks like he survived the assault on his life and safely made it into the away end.

Here he is again - light grey top in the background.

I think you'll find that's actor Tom Burke taking a break from 'Strike.'

Shirley Temple, another well known Wednesdayite can be seen bottom right.
