I've noticed in the last couple of games that McBurnie and then Sharp were given a free role defending corners and just told to attack the ball. It works really well. Not marking anyone just attack the ball to clear it. Clever.

We should have our strikers sat on the halfway line at corners, especially when we are 2-0 down. Let the opposition worry about a counter attack. If Sharp and McBurnie are our best defensive options for corners there’s something wrong.

You would take the player who is best at defending corners and put him on the halfway line? It's not like every tall defender defends corners.

I would rather leave someone with pace who can't defend corners on the halfway line, rather than someone with limited pace who can defend corners. But that's just me

To be fair when McBurnie was playing last season we used to do this. It's about the only decent thing McBurnie was able to do back then.

No, I’d rather have a defender who can, well, defend, than a forward defending who’d be better off playing as, say, a forward. There’s something amiss if our best defensive option at a corner is a forward rather than a defender. What we gain from having Sharp or McBurnie defending corners is lost when they can’t possibly lead any counter attack. Unless you’d rather us have the defenders placed to counter, and the forwards defending corners?

Because he's not marking anyone, all he has to do is stand in the middle of the box and attack the ball. He's likely to head it clear most of the time as everyone else is pulling or pushing.

And guess what, he does, so we don't concede, which, from an oppo corner, is the optimal result.

Not at all. McB is a good header of the ball so he goes into defence, releasing a small midfield player to push up with one other.

I find it absolutely ridiculous that’s he’s back there, defending, helping the team out.. winning headers, 3 in about 20 seconds today… he should be upfront shunt he.. waiting for it to be launched forred.. because there’s gonna be nobdi there to mark him, because they’re all in our box attacking!!

We didn’t have any threat up front mats for some reason we have 11 men defending our box for corners so just hoof it away for it to come back
