Quite simply, does he drop his captain for the next game?
I'm Adkins biggest fan and McEveley's biggest detractor so I for one am really interested to see if Nigel has the balls to do what the majority of us have been calling for.

Possibly not. Hooking him at half time may have been a warning. He seems to be the type to give players a 'last chance'.
It's clear though that he's not going to put up with poor performances week in week out. I suspect McEv will start again but if he doesn't significantly improve, we'll have seen the last of him.

How do you know you're McEveley's biggest detractor?

Was there a vote?
What are your qualifications in this matter?

There is no place in this squad for Collins and McEveley.

Squad, perhaps. Regular first team, definitely not.

I have championed them both as squad players lately but really neither of them should be anywhere near the squad never mind the first team. They make far too many mistakes even when they are under no pressure.

We don't know what goes on in the dressing room, McEverley may be an inspirational captain. You don't need to be the best player on the field to make a great captain.

Saying that, Billy Sharp's body language suggests a real Morganesque passion.

If Nigel has to take his captain off before he is likely to get sent off, then Nigel is having a good day because he has learnt he can't trust him. I mentioned this earlier in the summer, but last season Spurs had the same issue with their captain system. Their players mostly french speaking voted for Kaboul to be captain and Adebayor vice. Nigel came in this summer and players voted on a 6 man committee including Collins and McEverley. Spurs got to the point last year before Pocchee fella realised the best place for his captains was the u21's.

Nigel is still learning his players and learning to trust what us fans are telling him, however he needs to prove to his players he listens to them. I am sure he won't be far away from binning the idea.

It's going to be difficult for Adkins to handle that McEverey situation. He clearly respects his attitude and professionalism but he slowly seems to be realising he isn't first team material. Taking the armband off him and dropping him will totally ruin his confidence and also lower his status as club captain within the dressing room as players aren't going to listen to someone who has been dropped himself for playing crap. The best thing would be for him to be moved on but that's easier said than done

His confidence looks shot to me, when he took the booking you could see the fear in his face after that. If we can get another CB in and when Harris comes back it will make the decision easier.

It's understandable that his confidence is in pieces as he knows the fans aren't on his side and he knows he is captain of a club who are massively underachieving. I don't think he has ever been a captain elsewhere and it's a big step to being a normal player to being the captain of a club expected to win every game. I think giving him the armband was the worst thing to happen to him and the worst decision Adkins has made.

Ok, that might have been a brave call ,I'm sure there are plenty of fans who die a little inside every time he starts. I'm not putting all the blame on him today, the four at the back looked a fucking joke at times. I had to watch it with my old man who doesn't see us play as much anymore and I found myself having to stick up for some of our better players (Freeman and Basham) but in the end I thought sod it, we average and defending like twats he's right.

What saddens me is over the last few years we've gradually shown the door to each and every player with a little bit of flair and skill and replaced them with sub-standard, less skill full players who look like they don''t give a shit.

What has particularly annoyed me about the latest people in charge at the Lane is that they've done this while publicly saying that we no longer have to sell our best players (while selling them) and then talking about how our manager(s) have all the money available to re-spend (and then not re-spending it).

I can't help but feel we're having the wool pulled over our eyes.
