Boggles the mind. It's so blatantly obvious to anyone with even half a brain that our defence is where our real strength lies. We're not high scorers, but we don't have to be because of how resolute the backline is.

It's not like these stats are hidden away somewhere inaccessible to the average joe, they're right there in the GA column in the table. Makes me laugh when players like Tyrone Mings are getting in the England squad and reports are linking Ben Godfrey with a 50m move, as if he's somehow not responsible for being 1/4 of one of the worst defences in the league.
 



I would love him to stay which Blade fan would think different?and he loves it here to he is adored by the fans BUT surely it would be HIS decision where he would want to be.He has signed a new contract at Man U and will be on mega bucks maybe more than we can afford and the clubs that are sniffing around pay mega bucks to their players to.Maybe enough to turn a young guys head.He is so important to the Blades he must be worth at least a dozen points a season to us just hope the club knows this to.

Makes me laugh. I’d argue our defence makes Henderson look better than he is as much as anything. They’re incredible.

Are you sure he didn’t mean De Gea was playing behind second-rate defenders? Because that’s what it looks like.
 
If your to believe the reports its sounds like Man United have given us the green light to go and sign him permanently with a buy back clause inserted into the deal in the summer.

Anyone else starting to feel that we ought to just appreciate watching him for the games we have remaining in the run-in?? Might be the last we see of him in a Blades shirt.

He's been nothing short of incredibly consistent for the vast majority of his time here. He's been a stand out performer and one of the best keepers we've had in a long, long time.

As bonkers as it is to be able to say this, Henderson could and probably will have a much worse time of it at Man United - they're defense is much weaker than ours and he'll be exposed more.

An excellent point but I'm afraid it doesn't fit the established narrative. (I'll politely ignore the US 'defense' as I'm that kind of guy).

Man Utd are the 'biggest club in the world' so any move is a step up. The fact that he will be more exposed on the pitch and then subject to considerably more scrutiny off it, won't make it easy.

The trouble is that any cocky young lad (like Hendo) is always going to fancy his chances, so the more Man Utd looks likely, the more his head will turn.

Ahh yes, the narrative is that Man United are a big club, and we all keep serving that narrative. If we say if often enough, it must be true.

It's an interesting one, and I agree, but pay packet aside, I wonder which other factors make it worth contemplating going there - when it's internationally agreed that Man U aren't what they once were, are years away from being title challenges, are on the decline, have a squad that needs a complete overhaul, are awful in the transfer market, and have no managerial certainty or blueprint either. I suppose we can all have a guess as to what the appeal might be, and for Henderson, he'll have added loyalties. You'd have to think though, for any other young lad coming up, with extremely high prospects - you'd have to imagine that they would look at the option of Chelsea, Spurs or Man United etc and not want to touch Man United with a bargepole - maybe even seeing staying at an ascending Sheffield United as preferable..! Now there's a thought...

As for the defense - typo. I hate mixing up my Cs and Ss...

He’s a Man U fan for one. Secondly, most of what you’ve written about them is a TalkSport style exaggeration. Their recruitment this season has been pretty good, they’re slowly clearing out the crap and with a good manager could easily finish in the top four regularly, and challenge for the title when Pep leaves and Liverpool falter, like all clubs do. They might even do that with OGS (although I doubt it).

Well if he is not here next year we will need another striker preferably one who scores goals ha ha. He alone must be worth 10 points at least to us.
 
He's £60m+ in today's market, easy.

Arrizabalaga cost Chelsea £71m and wasn't a proven Premier League keeper.

Also you have to apply the English player premium.
 
We are fortunate to have him under the current status quo. He is clearly ambitious, but seems happy to bide his time at a club who takes good care of him.
Man Utd own a great developing asset and they can call him back, any time De Gea starts to falter.
At a reasonably local, small PL club like us, Hendo gets all the experience and plaudits of playing at the top level, without the demands and distractions he would have to deal with at any top club, particularly London clubs, where Man Utd would be more concerned about having his head turned, big city, bright lights etc.
Add in a seemingly consistent and healthy respect between the two clubs, and the player, and the current situation seems to be the obvious way forward.
 
He's easily in the top 4 keepers in the prem, if not top 2!
 
With all the stick they've been given with their transfer policy since Fergie left, I can see the fee being a huge problem.
They will want Maguire money unfortunately.

Can't see why they wouldn't loan him back out for a couple of seasons, De Gea is only 29.

But then again would Henderson returning, along with Pogba, be them appeasing the fans with effectively 2 'new signings'?
 
What struck me about the game against Villa was how routine Henderson's display felt. He was comfortably our MOTM. That one-hand parry around the corner was a world-class save but partly because of the lack of theatrics (which I know Henderson does like usually) and partly the lack of atmosphere it seemed fairly normal. The save from McGinn's shot was another great example of how his positioning and anticipation makes some of his saves look so easy.
 



I thought it had already been agreed. Worrying if not, given de Gea's performance against Tottenham
