That's how he gets onto the team sheet.;)

Besides only people that follow him can see that - you must be in the inner circle lawless

He got an elbow to the face in training.

What's Simon Tracey up to these days?

Best keeper we ever had imo. And that's saying summat when you've got the likes of Alan Kelly to compete with. I expect a popular vote would go to Kelly, he was certainly more consisent over the years, but i'd just edge Tracey's early years in front by a whisker. Shame he was never quite right again after the injury. If my shaky memory serves me right, after years of playing like the ghost of the still alive Gordon Banks, he finally got called up for the England squad when he was injured. Can anybody with a better memory fill in the blanks?

I have a better memory. I can remember all the dodgy performances that demonstrated he was not in the same class as Kelly.

Graham Taylor named him in the stand by list of the England squad in March 1992 but Tracey injured his shoulder diving at the feet of Dennis Wise in our 2-1 win at Chelsea. He carried on playing until the final whistle but he was ruledd out for the rest of the season and then we signed Mel Rees

You have a better memory? That is rubbish! We won more games with Tracey in the team than we did with Kelly. Kelly's shot stopping was excellent, but his kicking was poor and his understanding with the defence was no where as good as Tracey's (Kelly's understanding with Nilsen was always bad). Kelly was slightly the better shot-stopper but Tracey was the better all round keeper

Utter bollocks. He was a bombscare. Were you at Leeds when we were humiliated 4-0? He was a rabbit in the headlines.

Aww Mel Rees. I remember what i think was his debut at Bramall Lane. Can't remember who we played, but the saves he made were gobsmacking. He must have pulled out 6 or 7 worldies in that 1 game alone. Even had the crowd singing "Englands Englands number 1" possibly not realising he wasn't English! Not sure if that was on his debut, i think it was but i could be wrong it may have been a few games later. Good times. So sad what happened to him, he could have been an all-time great the way he played in those few games for us.

It was v Liverpool and we won 2-0 and he was quite brilliant

Really? So it was the same match as Deano lobbing Grobawotsits? Wow my memory sucks. I'm confused cos in my brain i saw the Deano lob from the kop, but saw the Mel Rees saves from the John Street. Obviously one of those memories can't be right. That's really annoying. I feel like a proper old duffer right now. :(

It shows Ken2. It shows. ;)

Must admit I always preferred Tracey to Kelly. I may be in minority but Tracey was a better all around goalie in my opinions. Basing it on one game at Leeds where the whole team were poor is nonsense surely. Kelly was a superb shot stopper but was not great at commanding his box for me. Tracey did have the brains of a rocking horse and if he had a bit more upstairs could have gone all the way in the game. He was brave, solid hands, decent on crosses and I felt when we stormed the leagues up to the top flight he was as big a part as anyone and I include Deane in that.

Both top keepers though. We were spoilef and when Rees came along many fans forgot what it was like to see a poor keeper (I remember Andy Leaning a few years earlier unfortunately!) Even Paddy Kenny was a good keeper and it was not until likes of Bunn, Simonsen and Howard that we have realised how good some of our keepers were late 80's through to late 90's. Long could make a very good keeper. Sadly he will have to leave this mess soon or he will will go backwards.

Mel rees short spell in the side (excluding his injury hampered performance v leeds ) is the finest display of goalkeeping ive ever seen

Tracey's 'command of his area' often involved a rush of blood leading to goals against and loss of points. Witness the Battle of Bramall Lane. Kenny was even worse - Everton at home and the Pigs away to name but two.

Long may indeed make a very good keeper but no-one should pretend he is remotely near at the moment. He routinely spills shots back into danger areas, fails to use his height effectively on crosses, is a poor communicator and naive positionally.

You are a very narrow minded person! Still refusing to check if we were more successful with Tracey in goal than with Kelly

You have two rules in your life
1. Pinchy is always right
2. when wrong, look at rule number 1

i thought it was spurs but i'm probably wrong.. i remember deano lobbing that prize dick Ian Walker

It was Bruce Grobbelaar that was acting the clown before Deano took the ball off him and lobbing the ball from 40 yards. The Liverpool player that ran back to the goal line to try and stop the shot was Steve Nicol

If I remember rightly the highlights on whatever the programme was back then focused on what didn't go right for Liverpool rather than the fact that BDTBL was a tough place to come for any team in the land back then. Even though Mel Rees was ace, we were worthy winners and the highlights refused to show any of our dominance and focused in the BG 'mistake' rather than the sublime skill of the best big man in the league at that time.

aah. .the green kit game.. i thought that i was wrong. when was the time we beat spurs 2- 0?? (or something.. could have been one nil actually).. i remember that game because the spurs keeper was winding up the kop and then he came for a backpass and deano beat him to it and lobbed it into the goal.. walker then had to walk all the way back to the kop and he got some serious stick.. really funny

Looked up in google, the only time Ian Walker played at BDTBL was in our 2-0 win in April 1992. Deane scored the 2nd goal at the Kop End but it wasnt like you had described. I think David Barnes crossed low and Deane slotted the ball from about 8 yards past Ian Walker who was positioned near the goalline. There wasnt much Walker could do about preventing the goal
