Post Blackwell

I had the pleasure of watching our match with a recently, well due to be announced tomorrow as "mutual agreement", laid off lad tonight in our village pub - who was very pointed, and correct, in our failings on the pitch

Should we?

Say WHAT????

We were on Sky. The village pub showed it. I decided to go and get depressed with some ales in hand (so I hold my hands up for not being there - that is the match). I was watching with a young lad who has just been shafted by his boss. He's a pretty reliable, just married guy who doesn't want to be out of the game for long, and who also knows the game enough to have taken a small city team to our league.

Thing is Reading are still interested, but conversations elsewhere have taken place

BTW, can I point out that although it says "newbie" underneath, I did use to post as PBoro Blade on the old bladesunited.

So, yes, I do live in Stamford, and yes I do now certain people in this "stay amidst its ancient charm" town

So there is no wind up

So let me get this right.. You were watching the game with a young lad who has just been shafted by his boss. He's pretty & reliable and he's just married a guy who doesn't want to be off the game for long...

Are you in Bangkok by any chance..???

I'm also a pedantic sod who corrects himself. "know". Just in case any of the other lurkers from BU are around!

Bon. Nope! Admire the sentiment tho'. Since when has Nicola been a boy's name?

Except in the Eastern bloc mebbes?

Middle-aged farts in pub event. "My day's been bad", "well my day's been worse. Let's watch the Blades" Simpsonlike episode with some revealing credits

Anyways, the question remains from the first post

Should we?

No, he may be a great bloke but is just the latest of a long line of lower division successes who are forced into the limelight too soon without learning their trade. We need someone who knows what they're doing, particularly at this level.

Might be an oppty to get George Boyd in our central midfield.
Could get a few tasty ManUre kids in on loan.

Cannot see McCabe binning Blackwell though. It's not his form to sack a man who has been working under such difficult circumstances and shown loyalty to the cause, despite what the vociferous, bile spitting minority keep posting.

Would that include Aidy Boothroyd then?
Did it for Watford and now making waves at Colchester.

Coppell? Thought he might be going to Brighton.
Would certainly play the game as it should be.

Phil Brown? Under pressure to sustain the levels of consistency required but he did a great job getting Hull there in the first place.

Look at the job Mark Robins has done at the Millers and Barnsley.
It's not always a case of someone repeating a previous success. Sometimes it's recognising talent before it reaches those levels. Not an easy job though.

Boothroyd is exactly the type I'm talking about, one great season and everyone thinks he's the bees knees. Dowie, Cotterill, Ince, three more who people wanted at certain times (certainly on BU) and there's many many more.

I appreciate everyone has to start somewhere and there may be gems and inexperienced managers who could do the job for us but I just think at this stage we need experience, someone like Coppell, David Jones, Gary Johnson, that type.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that, he's taken Posh up two divisions in two seasons and although they've not started that well it could well be down to the players he has trying to adapt. By all accounts the football has been fine but they are being punished for mistakes that previously they would have got away with.

To take a similar example, look at us in 90-91. Two promotions on the spin then down to earth with a huge bump until Christmas when we turned it around.

I would have been confident that Posh would have stayed up with Ferguson in charge but now I really hope they go down to show up the plank in charge.

I don't think you have to have prior experience at this level to be a success, look at Robins at Barnsley.

Let's hang fire a bit on Robins !

It is a bizarre decision to get rid of Ferguson but of course we don't know the full story. More than likely another example of 'want it now' and 'panic'.

A certain rotund, heart-attack prone, past-manager of lower division sides has done for him at Posh. Bloody directors of football

Well I'd like DF as manager. Some of the football played under him at Posh has been the best some of those ingrates will ever see

Thing is, how do you question the manager from the stands (!!) when you know you'll be seeing him later in the week?!

umm that'll be me {puts hand up}.. he's unfortunate that i have a persistent cold that gives me plenty of bile to spit.

Your original post was so tenuous even a good old conspiracy theorist like me couldnt decipher it :)

I'd have him tomorrow, I'd have Len Ashurst over Blackwell right now, with Harry Haslam as DOF

Stamford, I'm not a million miles away from the town of 'ancient charm' and in fact live in a 'historic market town'. Having met DF several times and on each occasion found him more ignorant than the time before I have to say I wouldn't want DF anywhere near our beloved club.

TB.

he's showing all the signs of following in his father's footsteps, he'd definitely be worth a punt at this stage. i've had some very engaging, enjoyable chats with KB over the years, doesnt make him the right man for the job.... in much the same way your impressions of DF dont make him the wrong man, probably. thats not to deride what you're saying, mind.

why not? had enough of KB..he really can not get this club to play good football..ok, maybe one or two games per season

If Darren Ferguson is even half as good as his dad he'll be a decent manager. Just hope he doesn't become the same mardy twat that his dad has.

Top Boy. Deeping, Bourne or Spalding?

Did you catch DF whilst he was supping? Always found him quite a knowledgeable chap - and quite a human

Pup. Sorry for the tenuous statements. I actually thought I'd telegraphed it pretty well!! - but hey ho

I was about to ask the same question! You can probably tell where I live by my name (hopefully!) :)
