I've been trying to find some of his games as manager of Swindon, to see what we may well see as our style of play next year. I've also looked for a few from when he was with the Dingles and some of the time at Bristol.

Charlton and Swindon highlights, mainly more highlights of Charlton but there are a few odd moments in there.

Barnsley vs Cheslea back in 1997.

One thing I'll certainly say is there seems to be some good movement off the ball (something we have lacked a while) and his sides seem to set up well from set pieces something we've also lacked in a while.

Style is a topic of much discussion on here and it certainly will be interesting to see what happens, but one thing I've taken from seeing the videos is his successful sides aren't total football but they do mix it up well. Time will only tell. Some will have seen more of his teams than I so, what are your thoughts?

...and his sides seem to set up well from set pieces something we've also lacked in a while.

Funny thing is, every pundit on earth thinks we're masters of the set-piece. A team of giants who strike fear into the hearts of opponents with every corner. But we've been bloody terrible at them for years. And last season we forgot how to defend them too. :(

So if DW can sort our set pieces and get us passing the ball to teammates, then he'll do for me. From my own experience of watching his teams, I fully expect a short passing game, but really no idea what to expect about the set pieces.

I haven't paid much attention to how teams managed by Wilson have played.

However (as I have mentioned elsewhere) my son has watched Swindon regularly over the last few years, as well as watching United. He's not an expert and doesn't pretend to be, but feels that Wilson's side was usually set up to play attacking football. They had a lot of good movement and generally kept the ball on the ground. They were easier on the eye than United, and although I am not convinced one way or the other, he is pleased by the appointment.

I hope he's right and am prepared to reserve judgement until we see exactly what happens. He's here now and those who genuinely want to see us succeed will surely get behind the manager as well as the team.

He could have been watching any of about 90 teams then!

After discussing Wilson's appointment with a long time Swindon season ticket holder who really knows his football I'm eagerly awaiting watching us play. My mate says that Swindon played passing attacking football that he's only witnessed once before, the Hoddle era. He also went in to say, which suprised me, that Wilson likes to set his teams up with a target man. Hendo anyone?

All in all I think Wilson will be like a breath if fresh air through the club and will, along with Pembo give us something exciting to watch next season compared to the shite we've been served up in recent years.

UTB!

Nice to see some objective posts pertaining to Wilson and football next season in general. There isn't much of that over the road on Blades Mad! Some good stuff on there but an awful lot of chaff to sort though if you want to find any of it.

For me, I'm optimistic about the style of play. DW will find it much easier to slip up than any other manager would due to some fans chomping at the bit to see him fail. This is where the risk lies and why a good start is more essential than it might have been with just about any other manager, however, a good start, and he has as much an opportunity as any other manager to become a legend.
