In terms of Didzy, from what I recall the Ipswich fans were saying that on his day, he was still unplayable at Championship level, but those days had become less and less frequent. Constant niggles on the injury front and general apathy appeared to have come into his game. He admitted that both may have been a result of spending the best part of 6 hours a day in a car on his commute to training.
He needed a new challenge and somewhere nearer to home.
Not that I will ever be able to compare myself to a professional footballer, but I was once in a situation where I was travelling all the time for work, occasionally staying away but usually doing daily commutes as I had a young son and wanted to try and be at home. From leaving the house to arriving home on a good day it would be 12 hours, often 16 or more. I was exhausted, fed up and (even though we didn't talk about it as much then) seriously struggling with my mental health. And even though others never mentioned it, I felt like my work was starting to suffer. I had become resentful towards my employer and what I was being asked to do.
I needed a fresh start with a much smaller commute. I was lucky enough to get that, and instantly became happier and more energised. I went on from there to have the best 10 years of my professional life, in terms of achievements and promotions. Things have plateaud a bit more recently mind
