Danny Ings

The experience plays a massive part though. Look at Sharp and Didzy at the same age? Very valuable to the squad in alot of ways.

Also he's an improvement on most of our attackers.
Aye but Didzy very much wasn't considered an out and out goalscorer like Ings is supposed to be, and Billy had scored more than double the goals Ings had.

i dont mind us signing ings but we have to change the system to accomodate him he has to be played in a 2 up top with campbell imo but do think he would score at this level

I've got no qualms about signing ings,Redmond and mee , it'll put some experience in the spine of the team.( But it's all about wages as well)
I think now ( yes I'm glass half empty) even this early in the season we're on damage control although top 6 is still possible.

This is going to end so badly!

Ings will probably cost us at least 40k a week. To think we could have gone after Billing to add some real bite / experience to the midfield for similar is an absolute joke.

Redmond being on trial/training with us is on a completely other level, he should be playing in the Australia A league.

Embarrassing!!!!
How do we go after Billing when he’d decided he wanted to go back to Denmark?
Ings is surely a decent addition to a frontline that lacks guile and confidence?

Yes, It certainly has been this season. I think if Brooks is running full tilt and instinctively going past players he’s quite effective. It’s when the defender backs off and he’s got time to think, that he’s usually dispossessed.
Aye
Them fucking defenders: - backing off, thinking, dispossessing - in essence defending - set of bastards all of em (apart from them wearing SUFC jerseys(😉

This signing reminds me of the McCabe. See what happens. Could be a good option. Shouldn’t be relied on to fire us out of the division.

Some of the best players I’ve seen over the years only ever arrived at Bramall Lane because they were nearing the end of their careers and allegedly past their best.

David McGoldrick
Stuart McCall
Paul Parker
Dean Saunders
Paul McGrath
Gordon Cowans

All of the above never let us down and I’m sure there are more, although I do concede not every gamble of this kind paid off, Ian Rush, Martin Peters I’m looking at you. 🤨

In terms of Didzy, from what I recall the Ipswich fans were saying that on his day, he was still unplayable at Championship level, but those days had become less and less frequent. Constant niggles on the injury front and general apathy appeared to have come into his game. He admitted that both may have been a result of spending the best part of 6 hours a day in a car on his commute to training.

He needed a new challenge and somewhere nearer to home.

Not that I will ever be able to compare myself to a professional footballer, but I was once in a situation where I was travelling all the time for work, occasionally staying away but usually doing daily commutes as I had a young son and wanted to try and be at home. From leaving the house to arriving home on a good day it would be 12 hours, often 16 or more. I was exhausted, fed up and (even though we didn't talk about it as much then) seriously struggling with my mental health. And even though others never mentioned it, I felt like my work was starting to suffer. I had become resentful towards my employer and what I was being asked to do.

I needed a fresh start with a much smaller commute. I was lucky enough to get that, and instantly became happier and more energised. I went on from there to have the best 10 years of my professional life, in terms of achievements and promotions. Things have plateaud a bit more recently mind :)

Not to mention doing commutes like that for work, its easier (more persuaded) to call in sick ... a lot of didsy "niggles" could be "ah feeling bit tight, not travelling down for sake of exercises can do at home".

The shorter commute to Sheffield & all of a sudden hes available more often and less niggles etc. Not that im saying didsy did that or calling anyone's integrity into it but just another reason and way of looking at it.

If i had to travel 12 hrs round trip for work I'd be calling in sick just for a cold or any minor issue.

Billy had scored more than double the goals at what level? Ings has played his whole career in the top 2 divisions, he's played 52 games in the PL in the last 3 seasons, Liverpool saw enough in him to sign him and hes played for England.

Hes a level above Billy and I dont understand all the negativity. Im sure any contract would be structured to take account of appearances. Hes only just 33 and anyone who thinks we can afford a proven 27 year old goalscorer is having a laugh. We are an injury to Campbell away from either Cannon or One leading the line!!! For me hes a no brainer if the contract is structured to suit us.

I'll be honest, I have no idea if he's still any good or not. Feels like a very similar signing to Moore but with more top flight experience

I don’t get some of our supporters. We had people clambering to offer Brewster a new deal and try to get McBurnie back on £30k a week. Yet we don’t want to sign someone who is vastly better and has done it at a much higher level than both of these because there’s an (incorrect) perception he’s always injured.

Those 2 spent more time on the physio bench than they did on the pitch but because Ings is 33 we don’t want him?! McBurnie moved like a 33 year old when he was 13 and has got less mobile since.
