Porkers, through necessity, forging young players careers, developing a fighting spirit and creating a culture that will stand them in good stead in future.
We're spending millions on Danny Ings and a clutch of other players with no real connection to the club, who won't be part of the club for long, creating an increasing disconnect with fans.
All very different from the prospectus.
Almost as if the many players our academy has produced over the years is wiped off the slate because we signed Danny Ings! Fcks sake

If our modus operandi is to blood academy players and selected young punts from minor European leagues, then a stable of seasoned pros for them to plug around is absolutely essential.

We currently have none of those, so Ings is a very astute signing (as would Redmond and Mee, if they happen).

Think this will be a top signing. 5 goals and 5 assists in 2072 minutes played in all comps for West Ham. Only just turned 33, Sharp, Mcgoldrick, Clarke etc all had good seasons around that age for us and Ings is/was a few levels above any of them. No actual injury since 2021 according to transfermarkt so hopefully all good on that front too
Above McGoldrick, dream on.

Let's give the guy a chance. He's scored a lot of goals in the top flight. He's the same age as when Billy had his best season. He may be the next golden oldie we've had. Ok, he could be the next Lee Hendrie or Ian Rush, please no! He still seems to have the determination to play football which is massive. Apparently he's very hard working. I remember when Dean Saunders came in at 34 and he was the best for work rate in the team! Incredible!

The main question is why haven't we signed him earlier. We probably all know the answer here but that's not likely to Selles fault neither. The start won't have helped but having the defence we've had won't have helped!

You suggest that Ings will not perform to his best because he has no connection to the Club. We have no reason to believe that to be the case.
We don’t need every player to have a long history with the club, but just to contribute to the season in question.
No idea how he'll do. The point is he's here for a year no doubt on big money, several others are here for a year also on big money and won't be next year.
We've spent millions on short-term signings when it was claimed we were building long-term.

Above McGoldrick, dream on.
Some of the quotes from back when we signed McGoldrick:
Except he is very injury prone and on the wrong side of 30.

Although I guess this is the market we are shopping in.
An improvement on Donaldson and that’s about it. At least it is moving in the right direction, albeit a very small step.
McGoldrick more like McOldrick.
I don't think Danny Ings will be as good for us, or for as long as, McGoldrick was- that said I don't think you can write him off immediately.

It's also borderline crazy to suggest that Danny Ings hasn't had a better career to date than McGoldrick had at the time of us signing him.

I reckon one of Campbell and Cannon will be off. Cannon as he hasn't and doesn't look like delivering, Campbell because he's not the same player since CW left so probably won't want to be here any longer.

Wank signing. He was past it 3 years ago. Injury prone, unfit, lost his pace and won’t make much difference this season. This club is ridiculous.
Harsh but possibly true, so with your encyclopaedic knowledge, who should we be signing?

We don’t know what we have spent and we have brought in several younger players who could be the future.
Whatever the mix it has to have experienced players in the squad if not in the starting XI.
I think the balance is looking good. The question we should be asking is whether the quality is there.

Hope this works out for us because we desperately need something different going forwards.

But he reeks of a player who'll play three or four games and then we'll not see him again until March.

Not just last night, it's about how they've approached all their games so far.
There's no plan about it as they've no other option but ironically being forced into playing young players and wringing every last drop out of what they've got, there's something approaching a blueprint for their future.
We had some fine words from our owners several months ago and ended up with a complete mish-mash instead.
You’d swap our Academy for Wednesday’s would you?

Desperate
We are desperate though. Campbell is the only serviceable striker we have at the minute and even he struggles to stay fit.
This is a big, big gamble. And we are not a lucky club.
What is the big gamble? He costs nowt and we can bin him off at the end of the year if he fails. Brewster and Cannon were gambles.

Literally anyone else. Signing a players as they’re the only option is a ridiculous notion. It’s a big world out there.

Just a cursory look at squads in the prem, champ and league one provides a few options. Ashley Barnes, Obafemi, Emmanuel Dennis, Will Keane, Harry Cornick, Jamal Lowe, Kieffer Moore, Marcus Forss, McBurnie, Brewster, Elijah Adebayo and Callum Robinson are all realistic and much more preferable options. This reeks of desperation.

Why let go of Moore and Brewster (deals I agreed with in isolation) to sign Danny Ings?

Have any scored more career goals than Ings?

Have any scored more PL goals than Ings? (Division above)

I really don't see the moan in this signing. It's a 1 year deal aswell.

Fuckin ell

Don’t give a fuck about achievements 5-10 years ago. He was a very good prem player, but he’s now past it, in a Dean Hammond-esque way.

You mentioned Barnes and Moore who are older or same age?

Many on here still rate Mcgoldrick at 37 and rated Sharp at the same age as Ings.
