Danny Drinkwater

I'd love to see Drinkwater at the Lane. He doesn't come with an ego, he's a good player and a good leader, calm and composed. He's got valuable top flight experience including handling the pressure of fighting off relegation. He's had a bit of a nightmare at Chelsea as it just didn't work out for him, so he'll be hungry to play regular football again. He'd certainly give Fleck and Norwood healthy competition.

The major stumbling block would be wages, so our best chance of signing him would be on loan.
 
Apparently off to Villa having only made 2 appearances on loan from Chelsea at Burnley, 1 in the cup. He's apparently on £110k a week!

Be a massive risk if they're paying his wages
 
Desperation following the injury to McGinn. In fairness it's 2m that could see them plug the void and stay up, however I can't see him playing any games.

His appearances since he left Leicester are laughable.

They go down and they’re stuck with his wage on the books.

Apparently Chelsea were only prepared to loan him to a club that will pay all of his wages.

Before McGinn got injured I said they were strong in midfield but weak in attack and defence. They need to address these areas too, probably more than they need to cover McGinn.

He was solid at Leicester the year they won the League but was playing alongside Ngolo Kante. He liked to play the long ball through to Vardy & overall was pretty decent.
He has 17 games at Villa to make a difference & you would have think it will take a few apps to get up to speed.
Apparently Villa are picking up his 110 thou pay check which is crazy and under the new rules this year a club can only loan one player from any club so no more loans from Chelsea.

It was said on Sky Sports News last night that Chelsea had back-tracked from their demands that the loaning team needed to pay all of his wages, this was after Lampard insisted he wasn't part of his plans. It didn't say how much of his wages Villa are paying though
 
He’s useless that striker there signing piatek might just keep them up though

That makes more sense, any club picking up his 110 thou paycheque would be out of their mind. i guess Chelsea realized that saving any part of his salary was a bonus. His contract runs till 2022 so Chelsea must be hoping that he shines.
