Oh for a team with Dane, Wardy and Bradders....

Deano would be the icing on the icing.

Post mid 70s after Woody and Currie we had to endure, rather than 'enjoy' the Blades. Basset's boys were such a fantastic breath of fresh air. That comet burned brightly for 3 years and is my most enjoyable period of watching United.

Got married in 91 and even my wife understood when I said Leicester away in 90 was the best day of my life. Of course I added a load of bollocks about the intensity of footie and how overall our wedding day was a longer high, so I think I just about got away with it. She still gives me funny looks though.....

For me the biggest thing with that quote is when he says "... or didn't put the effort in like these do there would be fist flying at half time with each other", i.e. people would be angry and upset for players letting the rest of the team down and ruining what they're collectively trying to achieve. I can't see that happening now.

Looking at today's line up, player for player, I think most of them do actually try pretty hard normally, but there's an extra, vital, 5-10% to be gained by being a real team, fighting for each other, not just 11 individuals put together. For a while Adkins even selected his team just by looking at who was biggest, strongest and toughest, but it didn't work long term, partly because you need more than that and partly because you need a strong team morale, not just 11 guys with a decent set of competetive attributes.

Remember fans. This is the guy who, when told he was being sold to Birmingham, told the club he was going nowhere. The current bunch or cowards, if reading this, would probably just laugh & wave their payslips in Dane's face.

11 fighters who the opposition are scared of facing. That's what I want.

How do you put that in place Bergen? You know, given a bloated squad of mediocrity, all on good contracts and including a good few who resented their old meal ticket provider getting the sack. Serious injuries to key players for the first few months.

I know, 4 awful new signings didn't help, but how did Adkins turn it all around.

Look at my signature. That's when to judge the team morale. Who knows which way it will go.

One hell of a run on sentence. Crammed a lot of good stuff into that wall of text though.

As an excitable (and normally pissed) young lad I used to go crackers with joy every time Dane got on the ball and ran at players. Best player I ever watched in a Blades shirt.
If this squad had just a tenth of his passion and drive they would improve 10 fold.

Would be interesting to see how many fans see this and whether he gets a mention (song etc.) at the next game at the Lane.

Strange one about the in fighting at training, but I think that was how the squad tested someone's character, has anyone else read about the example of Alan Kelly on the team bus with David Barnes?

Dane was a far better player and is more of a man than any of the shower that currently puts on that shirt. Couldn't have put it better myself.

If only we could clone him and all of his team mates of that era. He played in some proper United teams who good, bad or indifferent always left everything out on the pitch. I long for those days.

I will always remember the second time I met him. I was mascot for the second time before a game against Bury and he had been out with that long term injury that ultimately finished his career.....I was in the tunnel waiting for the players and bricking it, he turned the corner and said "alright kid, here have a wine gum"....opening a bag of pick and mix. It took away all my nerves. A good bloke and a true Blade.

Great player in my top five all time.
Thanks for the memories Dane

That's what is so annoying. If we we're losing but putting in the effort, like a few of our Bassett era top flight seasons, fans would be more accepting. This current team, nobody really cares anymore because the players don't. The disconnect between players and fans is huge. It has to be said that the boards willingness to let players go at the drop of a hat doesn't help. Hard to build a team spirit, when they know they can just move on whenever they want. Youngsters like Che probably come to the club already thinking about moving on to somewhere else. We're basically a stepping stone to a proper club, or one last payday for players who have no hunger left.

The sad thing is some of these tossers will enjoy a comfortable life after footballer without ever having to do a stroke of work. I doubt that's the same for Dane, not that he'd want it any other way.

Last I heard he was working down the wholesale fruit market. One of my mates works there and knows Dane a bit. He reckons Dane is a decent bloke so that's good enough for me.

So...........when is that cunt Ainsworth nest down the lane?

Was a favourite of mine , who can forget his double , home and away against the "pigs" only saw up until the goal at the sty , but that's another story.
When we bought Gayle from city , hadn't he just Twatted someone on the training ground .
