Anyone get the impression that when talking about being backed in Jan, it didn't come across quite as positive as I thought it might?

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it?
He's not going to let on what support he will get ,but didn't Mccabe say something along the lines of ; see where we are in January things might happen then"
I got the feeling we might have a go if conditions are right. Doasnt mean we are going to push the boat out like pigs have, Wilder already said more than once he would never put the club into a financial mess and I for one agree with him.
He has got something going and bringing players in on the kind of wages pigs have is not the way and I beleave Wilder is of the same mind.
Wilder beleaves in value for money and not throw money away, should be an interesting window as he said we are going for it as we are in the mix .
This is shaping up like Harry's prormotion winning team as they showed no fear that season even after one or two heavy defeats , players with character
are what we will be looking for ,obviously they have to be at least as good ( technically ) as what we have ,plus I would hope some pace as that is one thing we don't have much of.

He's amazing isn't he. Says it EXACTLY how it is. I really hope he's got an account on here, occasional poster perhaps. That'd be funny.

Does any manager not want 3-4 players in the January transfer window.

I can't remember any manager saying "nah, I don't want any". Equally I can't remember any saying "9 to 12 player at least"

Fortunately Harry Redknapp's still out of a job so we shouldn't hear it next January either.

Both the Prince and Tareq Hawasli (his right hand man on the board) said funds are available in January. Neither will disclose how much but we have to be realistic that we can’t match clubs with parachute payments or very wealthy owners. We have to scout out exceptional value for money again.

Not claiming to be ITK, but I've heard a pretty solid rumour from the same guy that got the Laudrup deal spot on.

Says we'll be handed a 1.25m warchest!

There’s a difference though.
Wanting players is all about putting together a business plan.

If we are 2nd or 3rd in the league at Christmas.

Wilder might say
‘Spend 8 million on players and we’ll have at least a 50/50 chance of promotion bringing in 150 million a season”
Wilder can point to having a great record of spotting talent and consistently bringing in the right players to improve the team.

Compare this to Calvahal at Wednesday if they sit in 10th at Christmas.
‘Spend Another 15 million and we might just squeeze into the top 6 but it will be tricky as the standard is so high”
Calvahal has a poor record regards signings. Quite often his expensive signings don’t even make the 1st team.

The board WILL support Wilder well in the JTW. They’ve no choice really, if they let him down then he’ll be more likely more to leave next season and he’ll have some justification.

In your business plan, if we spent £8m on players and didn't go up this season, where would the money come from to pay their wages next season?

A club can only gamble if it can afford to lose. We need to bear in mind the consequences of gambling and look back to the Robson era, selling the Kyles to pay the wages of the rest of the squad, we need to look north west to the sty and see what happens when you overstretch, what will happen to them next year.

Do we gamble in the JTW and spend big money knowing that if we don't go up we'll be selling Brooks to cover next year's losses?

"One thing I will never do is put this club in jeopardy, because I've had experience of other people over-spending, or mismanaging at the top, and I know what happens, people not getting paid and the like,"

No prizes for guessing who said that recently so I can't see us gambling big time in January. If I'm honest, I'm more than happy with that.

Assuming Brentford and Reading are not challenging by January it wouldn't surprise me at all if we made a bid for either Woods or Swift. When CW describes someone as a 'proper player' it means he wants him.

Would love either of these, had a look on Wikipedia at them both & they're both tied down to long term deals. Would be amazed if anyone could get them for less than £4-£5 million. Sadly that prices us out of it.

Well we might not be rolling in money but I think we will do some trading come January, it could be a lot worse just ask Carlos he reckons the pigs have run out of money ................. Tee Hee :D:D:D:D

Could they not sell a few Taxis from that firm they have ;)

You shouldn't be raising these awkward points, BushBlade, you bloody trouble causer.

Cue:
"Where's the semi final money gone..."
"McCabe should put his hand in his pocket or let someone else* do it"
"the money tree"

*The 'someone else' may or may not be entirely mythical. There may or may not, be a long queue of Chinese billionaires all just waiting to pump £500m into United. It is not a poster's job to identify them, that is of course down to McCabe.

Well if we're all laughing at the pigs then the last thing we want to do is start emulating them. And if we're all blowing smoke up Wilder's arse for not 'spunkin' money' surely it makes no sense to start expecting him to start spunkin' money.

Sadly that is just what a few Blades would like. A trophy player costing £8m would 'proove' we are serious about promotion and bollocks to what it might do to team spirit or constraining next year's wage bill if we don't go up.

Again, some would like it all ways round. If Wilder does not 'spunk moneh', it is because McCabe lied about the budget....

....and he never wanted Ched.....
