So good to have all these options and whatever the starting lineup I feel we have a chance of all 3 points.

If we targeting Bournemouth as a potential 3 points with all their injury problems then i would swap Freeman for Ravs.

I dont like seeing him as someone to bring on to chase a game we're losing if its a game we think we have a decent chance of winning.

Don’t think he’s quite up to speed yet and hasn’t had the pre season prep that freeman has had.
 
I don't subscribe to the idea that Wilder has a selection headache. Isn't this what we hoped for? Isn't this abundance of riches every manager's dream?

It's why Chris gets paid so well, to find the right balance, to see who's equipped to play in this or that position. Sure, there will be players who find themselves warming the bench, there will even be players who don't feature on match day, it's why players have the chance to show what they're capable of throughout the week. It's why, for those who are not convinced by the need to spend money on the training facilities, the players are given the opportunity to impress and put themselves in contention for selection.

I couldn't be happier with our recruitment. I know it's relative, other teams, more established clubs, have spent far in excess of ourselves, but finally our board has grasped the reality of giving us a chance to remain a Premier Division club. I understand that some supporters will never be pleased no matter what we do, but at least by the quality I'm accustomed to us signing, this time we've excelled ourselves. Exciting times ahead.
 
Does anyone else think that Callum Robinson, who has made his name primarily as a winger, will actually have been sold on the idea of playing as a striker or a 10? He seems to be relishing this role in pre-season. Now he has played upfront before in fact I did see him play upfront with McGoldrick for the ROI live against Gibraltar and I'm encouraged by the fact these two know each other and can clearly operate in tandem but I'm also excited about the prospect of seeing him roam out wide if we have a change of formation or just want to drag a defender away to create space.

As a member of the legal profession you should know better than that or you will be accused of taking things out of context. On second thoughts though you probably do this routinely in order to get your wealthy clients acquitted on a "technicality". The above notwithstanding it's all a bit of a waste of talent when you choose instead to proffer your wayward theories on a football message board.
 
I feel a bit sorry for Billy. He looks in the condition of his life and it looks like his opportunities will be limited. I guess it's one of those things but feels a little harsh.

Pinchy is 100% on the money.
I couldn't give a fuck who Wilder picks. Why? Because I absolutely know it will be the team he thinks has the best chance of winning the game.
Anyone who thinks differently is happy to be relegated.
One point or one goal could and has resulted in that before

McBurnie will have only been with us for a week and, if Matlock is anything to go by, Moussett isn't fully fit, therefore I would start Sharp and Robinson up front with Freeman behind them.

Think you may have got it pretty much nailed on there for the first game...…..although I can see Ravel pushing out either Norwood or Fleck as soon as he is up to speed.

I can also see us reverting to a flat back 4 more often than we have previously, (especially if Bash struggles, which he might well do) and Jags coming in alongside Egan with Baldock and Enda reverting to fullbacks. Osborn and Robinson as the wide men and Ravel and Fleck/Lunny/Norwood in the middle with Freeman just behind a lone striker, (maybe Mousset when up to speed with his obvious pace)…...

One things for sure, we will 100% have to mix things up more than usual

Maybe, but that's the 'squad' as of today!
It's expecting a lot of Bashambauer's versatility and l currently don't see Bryan as direct cover for Jack.
We have now got a much strengthened team/squad but CW has already said we need extra in midfield, especially with Duffy being on his way out and Fleck being the only 'nasty bastard' we've got!
 
Thinking about this ....

We are less than 2 years removed from having just Leon Clark (recovering from injury) and an out of position David Brooks upfront against the pigs

To go from that to having the options we do now is madness

I think we’ll play 3-4-3 a lot, reverting to 5-4-1 when we don’t have possession. Outside 2 up front need real pace, and so will be Robinson and Moose (when fit) (backed up by Goldie).
 
Heartbreaking though it is to se the shift away from the old and bold, they will still get game time this season.
A smooth and seamless transition is unlikely, but I would hope the older leaders will help the new guys settle in, even though their starting spot is no longer secure.

The players will start on merit. That's the way Wilder has always worked. We all have our favourites in the current squad, but sentiment has no place at the top level. A few early games while the new guys get the hang of things in training, then let the new, expensive signings show what Wilder brought them here to do.

My favourites are Basham and Jags, but I can see a time after the next window, when they will pass quietly into Blades folklore.

My big hope for this season, is to see all that Ravel Morrison potential, when Wilder thinks the time is right.
