Cuvelier Update

Can't understand all this negativity about cavalier he's been very unlucky with injuries all stemming from his recovery from a cruciate repair,.
22 and thrown on the scrap heap .A fair number of players have lost 1 to 2 years with serious and niggling injuries but come back and had great careers (you can add James Wallace to that list as well another young player just 23 thrown to the wolves according to some negative
blades). There's no guarantee s but both players are potentially premiership quality and we have been unlucky investing time and money in
them will little to show so far..To throw away that investment when both are showing signs of getting back to full fitness would be crazy.
If we RELEASE them some lucky clubs will benefit from the investment we have put in them., stick with them I say we will get the benefits
in the long run,I trust Adkins to get them playing again.

The pair of them have probably pocketed well in excess of £1m in wages off us plus the transfer fees paid and made barely any impact in their time here. Adkins sounds frustrated when asked about them before having to explain why the latest muscle strain is preventing them from training.
Do you think the club should massively increase ticket prices in the hope that one day these two (plus Kennedy?) might actually get on the pitch? How much extra would you pay for your season ticket so we can continue to pay these millionaires?

Things sound like they are progressing well with Flo, fingers crossed. As for JW, it has now become unsustainable for me, feel for the lad but we have to let him go, I mean he can't even put a run of half a dozen games together before he is off back to the treatment room for another couple of months.

The saddest thing is, if Flo and James were both fit they'd be our first choice pairing in central midfield.

Hope at least one of them can get going.

The one where he came off bench n set up a goal was Plymouth in cup for McNulty I think

thanks for that, as i knew it was lower league sides but couldnt quite remember assumed it was league. & mcnulty another 1 that should be here if midfield was able to give him service

Tbf to FloCu, his situation's very different from James Wallace's. Flo's in more of a Brayford situation (albeit a plus size version of it) in that he had a one-off long-term injury, then broke down while making his comeback with an associated injury. With James Wallace, it's more that he's a broken vessel, sad to say.

In saying that, we really don't know what Flo's capable of. Whereas, tragically, with James we've seen cameos which show just what a top class player he'd be if it weren't for his utterly broken body.

Both have started in the U21s game that has just kicked off.

Howard, Whiteman, Banton, McGahey, K. Wallace, Flynn, Dimaio, J Wallace, Cuvelier, Reed, McDonagh.

So possibly

------------------------Howard
Whiteman-----McGahey--Banton----Wallace
------------------------Dimaio
Flynn-----------Reeed---Wallace----Cuvelier
------------------------McDonagh

Halford is at the lane playing for Birmingham.

Sounds like we've made a decent start. Flynn went down in box but pen not given. McDonagh robs defender in the box but scuffs the shot wide. Flynn has had some treatment but is back on

Good news!

Flynn played 90 minutes as did James Wallace, Kieran Wallace, Harrison McGahey and Louis Reed in front of boss Nigel Adkins, with the Scotsman scoring once in each half to help Chris Morgan's side make it seven games unbeaten in the Professional Development League against a Birmingham side that included former Blades loanee Greg Halford.

Add to that Cuvelier receiving a "generous round of applause" as he was substituted off and maybe the injury tide is turning? It seems that Adkins' approach to using the U21s to get players fit is to build them up to 90 mins then reduce it back down: from memory Brayford played 45-80-90-75 before turning out against Barnsley. If (and I know it's a big if) Cuvelier can get fit for the second half of the season it'll be like a new signing in January. Fingers crossed for him.

Given that we have two games in 3 days over Christmas we'll be needing the depth in the squad, particularly in midfield so I'd not be surprised if Flynn, Cuvelier and Wallace play some part in at least one game.

On Flynn scoring a 25 yard volley: "I wanna tell you, I might as well do, about a boy who can do anything"

The article reads a bit like SUFC propaganda for "It's OK - we now dont need to sign anyone as Cuvelier is now fit". Sorry for being skeptical about our club, but given next month is January.....

Its good that Flo is getting near fitness, but it cannot be anything other then last chance saloon for him (and James Wallace). We cannot go on carrying them. It now doesnt matter about their age - if they cant stay fit, they are no good to us.

As for Flynn scoring against a bunch of kids - not really exciting news. He is one of a number of players that needs moving on.

FT 2-0. Flynnaldo adding a second after James Wallace picks him out with a pinpoint throughball all the way from the treatment table.
Yes Dane ,we saw in patches what J Wallace brings to the table sheer class. Morgan has them lads playing some good stuff the movement
from back to front is exciting to watch, morgs couldn't play footy like that but the way we push &move the ball around is great to see, hard to pick a man of match but flynnaldo took his goals really well and Banton looks a real prospect at centre back.,We have got some real quality coming through ,.they're worth watching.

One of the most overrated players we've ever had.

I rated Halford but we didn't seem to have a set position for him. He was played at right back, right wing, centre back and centre mid at times I think.

And not ideal in any of those from what I recall. His best spell in my view came when he replaced the injured Hendo up front.

I thought he was decent enough at right back and that was his position when he was at Colchester.

I thought Halford did a decent job for us wherever he played. Only problem was, he had a monster of a throw but he was also the one you'd want on the end of it.

In terms of techical ability the U21s are clearly better than the first team.

We assumed Hendo would get on the end of his long throws but Darius usually got himself sent off instead or gave away a free kick.

I think there is still hope for Wallace and Cuvelier Adkins is a highly qualified physio, something which I don't think we had with Clough, the teams fitness was appalling and the treatment of injuries very un professional like the game he left Flynn on the pitch when he could hardly walk which must have made that particular injury much worse. If Adkins and Co can't get them fit then no one can and it will be time to let them go until then let them play out their contracts and decide then if they are worth keeping.

Flynny may well be moved on in January but those were two very good goals, be pleased for lad Kev.

Why does Flynn need moving on when the alternative is Woolford? Are you chaps on drugs?

Woolford offers positional discipline and some defensive qualities. With any other player in his position I think it's unlikely we would have kept a clean sheet on Satdi.

We've been letting in goals bc of the midfield as much if not more than the defence which is routinely pilloried, but not usually actually at fault.

Atm he's fairly ineffective going forwards but right now that's not the priority.

If you want to try to win 1-0 play Woolford.

If you want to try (and fail, usually) to win 3-2 play Adams.

Cuvelier was fit for 4 months before we loaned him to Port Vale. People seem to have forgotten his piss-poor performances.
