Any early insight on transfer plans / contract renewals?
No, nothing on that stuff anymore since the owner change

TBF everything I mentioned earlier was pretty much already out there. It’s the only reason I was told, I reckon. More of a confirmation of truth. Peck (agent) actively looking for a prem club was definitely news at the time though, but has since also been reported by others. Don’t know why I was told that as the new owners are very serious about controlling sensitive info.

What about the ”Sellés is shit” claims? Anyone from the board confirming that yet?

I get Peck wanting to leave if West Ham, Brentford or a Palace are in for him, but just wanting to leave before any interest is even shown is a bit shitty.
It also devalues him too, not that we have to sell.

That said, if it means keeping Gus or even Souza for one more season (now Arblaster is back) I think a lot of us would accept that.

If we can keep Gus for next season that would be a real boost. Souza would be good too, but out of the two Hamer at this level is a true game changer.

I'm a bit concerned that with the manager change, you don't know what players or agents are thinking.
Obv. of our more prized assets aside from Anel they all have more than 1 year left meaning we can negotiate good prices or even tell clubs bidding to f'off.

But the problem comes when a player says they want to leave.

I'd have preferred Wilder to stay but he hasn't. My concern now is if we were to lose Peck, Hamer, Souza and maybe Anel.
Who are we replacing them with from Bulgaria? But really who are we replacing any of them with because they are all tall orders to find when we are still at champ level.

I'd have more confidence in Selles being able to deliver a good run at top 2 or top 6 if he's not lost any or many of our better players...
Unless our recruitment really does work, but I'd be lying if I wasn't a bit worried about it being led by a poker player.

He's slightly more than just a poker player though.

Also bare in mind that Brentford and Brighton's successes over the last few years have come on the back of being owned by in effect professional gamblers. For these guys data and statistics is literally behind their whole business model.

I'm not saying our owners will have that type of success but the whole "data driven" approach is a lot more than just asking Siri who we should sign.

All of which is absolutely correct, but doesn’t fit the agenda.

It's interesting that since Wilder left the Stir haven't posted a new United story for two days. I'm going to guess that whoever their inside man was is no longer there, or no longer has access to someone who was.

Dare I say that CW’s obsession with “controlling the message” wasn’t without issue

One of my main specialities is communication (stakeholder engagement) and CW’s tenures have always made me cringe somewhat

Given the silence coming from the club during all the Wilder/Selles situation during that week, I'm guessing they like to keep things close to their chests. The statements they released at the end of the season and after Wilder left were very carefully worded, leaving not a lot to misinterpretation. Many picked up on the end of season statement and noticed the lack of acknowledgement to Wilder, correctly identifying that his position was under threat. Their statement about Selles doesn't confirm whether it is **** or bust for promotion for him, or if they will give him more time to build for the long-term. They mention giving promotion another go but don't hint that this is the be all and end all.

I will likely do a “this is what they said, and this is what they meant” breakdown thread before the start of the season, to recap and sum up the new owner messages. I did one for one of their first posts iirc. To be fair to them, there’s nothing deeply hidden in their messaging so far. It’s all very manicured, and the main learning will be that they are playing the notes you want to hear, but if it all goes tits up and you replay the record, that clinical messaging can be seen as insincere. Hard to win in these scenarios though.

Like when your stepdad says he wants to “do anything to make sure you and your mum are happy”

Later, with the benefit of hindsight, you interpret that to mean he wanted to keep you quiet and loosen her up so he could smash that fine, fine ass

I'm surprised they haven't done a diplomatic hatchet job on selles and a campaign of sainthood for wilder .

Thing with Brentford and Brighton though is their scouting network and setup are very well setup and run. And big in terms of numbers.

I know he's not just a poker player but that is his background.

I want it to work. But do have doubts.

Be interesting to see how our recruitment lines up this summer. How many are still from leagues we know about and how many are not.

It was noticeable when they sent a message in the days after that whilst it was on point as being a bump in the road and we’ll be back, there was no mention or absolute minimal mention of Chris himself.

This felt like the first seeds of them keeping their options open and so it turned out.
