Cue meltdown

A colleague is a Chesterfield season ticket holder and he told me ages ago that Ched was far too good for League 1 and possibly too good for the Championship but at Chesterfield he ploughed a lone furrow. Interestingly he said that Ched's wife and other family members attended every home game in an overt show of support. As for the decision making process, Chris Wilder is undoubtedly his own man and it's likely that he sought the opinion of some of the senior pros, particularly Bill before coming to a decision on Ched. He has been very consistent this season on squad harmony and I just can't imagine that he's taking a punt on Ched - it will be for sound footballing reasons.

Sharp and Long are the only players that were here when Ched was last here and with Billy being captain, I fully expect that the gaffer will have canvassed his opinion on Ched’s character as it’s something he places a lot of emphasis on.

Chesterfield fans at my work said when fit, Ched was head and shoulders above their other players but had no service whatsoever. Said he bullied defenders and ran himself into the ground. They’ve also indicated part of the reason he’s been injured so much is that they kept rushing him back before he was ready. If they are right about that, hopefully, a Wilder pre-season will get him right.

^^^^^^

This.

By all accounts, this news didn’t leak from the SUFC end. Can’t imagine we’d have wanted it as a distraction from the celebrations.

But it needn’t be an issue. It’s an extra player on the books who may or may not do the business. It’s not like we’ve just discovered we’re selling Fleck or O’Connell.

But is it 500k? I agree re his fitness but there is so much talk on here some of the fiction can soon become fact, if he comes and wilder wants him and its on a free I am all for it, if on the other hand its 500 k then absolutely not, I would trust our manager regarding his fitness and any injury problems, it just seems as though a rumour is now nailed on, Wilder probably doesn't want him and its half a million, lets wai and see.

It’ll probably end up being an undisclosed fee but the local journos have got hold of a figure of £500k which presumably came from somewhere. That said, it might be one of those deals worth up to £500k which depends on Evans captaining Wales at the World Cup final for all we know.

Can you find out why he's not played since the 4th March. His manager says it's because his body is not used to playing football. Judging that he played 29 games up to that point, something is a miss

I got the impression all is not well between Evans and Caldwell who also dropped Chris Herd who has apparently been one of their better players. I suspect that Evans and Caldwell might both have been aware that this deal has been on the cards for a while too.

Don't think it's a good move by the club if it's true.

Based on this season I can't believe we'd chuck £500k at him. He seems to be injury prone and he's done nowt at Chesterfield.

Main reason though is I don't think he's the sort of personality we should be going for. We've a fantastic team spirit and we're all, boardroom, players and fans as one.

We don't need this controversial signing. He had his chance with us and blew it big style, costing this club six years of pain and damage to its reputation.

I can't believe Wilder would consider it, I hope it's all bollocks.

Re attitude, by all accounts, he was a very hard worker and popular in the dressing room. He had a great relationship with the likes of Speed, Cresswell, Morgs etc. Chessy fans can’t speak highly enough of his workrate and desire. Can’t see that attitude is an issue at all.

If this is the case then I’m fine with it. I don’t think we should be pinning all our hopes on him but if we still sign a more proven striker as well and he’s just a back up option that might come good then fine.

I think he will be just that back up that comes good. Although I don't think we will sign another forward now

Sharp
Evans
Clarke
Lavery
Hanson
Maybe even Wright Jr

Would be how I see us starting the season

I wonder if we will lose any sponsorship over this decision to sign a player who may well never regain the form and levels of fitness he had when last here, fans arguing again, the inevitable bad press etc do we really need to take the risk? If we could guarantee him reaching the levels of 2011 then yes it would be worth it I just can't see him ever being the same player.

We won’t lose sponsorship for signing a player who has been a victim of a miscarriage of justice and lost years of his life.

Is that enough when stepping up a league though? A lot of clubs will go out and sign a proven forward when stepping up a level.

I can see Hanson and Clarke both having interest from League One and one of them if not both being sold.

Damn..

thought this was about the snooker!!

Well, it was potting the pink that landed him in the shit in the first place.

I think it is. to be honest Sharp could end the season on 30 goals if we went out and signed a player who had scored 30 goals in leagues one or even two for that matter we would all be happy I believe. Lavery will be great next year, after a pre season I believe Evans will be unplayable again. Sharp will be Sharp and Clarks has already earned his place for next season based on current form if there are any question marks id place them over Hanson but I can see Wilder cutting him loose after he has essentially done the Job Wilder has asked him to do

I think they could all potentially play a part as you say but a lot of unknowns. Sharp and Clarke not getting any younger. Ideally, I'd have liked us to sign someone like Sam Gallacher to complement what we have. Still hope we do to be honest.

I wouldn't say no to another Striker at all. I just don't see a Wilder going with 6 forwards mainly due to wages, he prides himself on getting the best out of a lean squad.2 months ago I think any blade could foresee Leon leaving but now I'm not so sure.you are right though they are getting on. Where as Lavery and Evans are still young

This is already old news for everyone else in the country, no one's bothered about it anymore, yesterday's chip paper.

There won't be all the hysteria and media circus, there wasn't much when Chesterfield signed him and there won't be now.

For me that just leaves one issue, is it a good football move? It's a gamble that's for sure but in championship terms it's a no brainer for the money.

Wilder did say in a recent interview that some ins/outs might surprise a few, can't we just wait and see how it pans out before crucifying the club.

One last point, lots of people criticising the club on the timing, the club didn't break the news.

As I've said before, I think the guy is a twat for what he did.

But, the verdict got overturned and he's a free man. There are players who have done far worse (aren't there Luke McCormick). Personally, I think there are better options out there, but it's really not about what I think.

I wouldn't say it's "ruined" anything, just could have done without the shitstorm.

Assuming this is the board's decision (which I would say it seemingly is), why do they think we owe Ched anything? His contract was up that summer and he did a stupid thing that cost us promotion (regardless of whether or not the court deemed it to be rape). Five years ago he might have been good enough for tier 2 football, but he's done nothing to prove it since then... and 500k ?! Madness.

He's doesn't play much anymore and the players who have replaced him didn't cost much more. Going on logic
According to Wiki he's played forty times this season. Who's replaced him and how much did they cost?
I'd guess there are a few clubs that would be interested in him so £500k seems a bit light.

I understand that the deal is now done and after the game on Sunday, just before the winners trophy is presented, a certain Ched Evans will take his place on the pitch to be revealed to the crowd as our 'marquee signing' for next season.
Fitting really, since he would have been a part of the promotion party back then if things hadn't gone pear shaped for him.
Maybe presenting him with an honorary winners medal would be a nice gesture?

Oooo, I am a bugger me :D

My thoughts for what they are worth is that if this was any other player even with a patchy goal scoring record for last season we would say lets see what Wilder and Knill can do, as we trust there judgement, but the thing is it is not just any player, it is a player who as a hell of a lot of Negative press, even after the acquittal, and a lot of it aimed at United.

It might even be Ched Evans who leaked this, as maybe he feels he should have been part of the party 6 yrs ago had it not been for one night in Rhyl, maybe he feels he is owed the chance at a higher level, for whatever reason McCabe clearly has a soft spot for him, after all he was going to send Clough to meet with him prior to his release and Clough was not the manager who signed him, so clearly that was at the behest of McCabe.

Whatever the price or the out come looks most likely he will be playing for the blade next year and we will all have to except it, some are happy others pissed off, but we all need to unite like this year and keep the good vibes going, if he hits the ground running its a master stroke if he fails then there is a lot of told you so for some, lets wait and see what happens I am sure not matter what Chris Wilder will not let it derail the effort and togetherness of this year, and will want the team to be as successful as they can be next year, let all look forward instead of back.

To nie słowa, które bym dla ciebie wykorzystał!

What is? The prospective purchaser of Chesterfield FC? I didn't know their identity had been revealed.

Apparently it's someone with no love for United. That's what I've read anyway.
