I will bet you Lavery doesn't score more than 5 goals in the league this year. Its like watching a quicker Chris Porter play! My mother is a more natural goal scorer than he is. There you go, that's what I really think.

You weren't lying, was you? Incessant shit must be your middle name?

Is she Championship standard?

It's meant in jest you boring fucker. Calling something gay doesn't make you a homophobe, jesus wept.
Stop being offended by everything that happens, you might just enjoy yourself.

What sort of world do you live in? Kin unbelievable!

Please do yourself a favour and search 'gay' in the search facility of this forum and prepare to be offended like you've never been offended before. People use the word in different contexts and everything, it's flaming disgusting! And do you know something, someone said Jamal Blackman was black, I mean, I just couldn't believe what I was reading! It's 2017 for crying out loud!

You're taking PC to a whoooole new level. Christ on a bike.

Doesn't make it right though does it? And you make a good point, it's 2017, we've moved past casual racism and casual homophobia - at least most of us have.

So when describing Jamal Blackman, how would you describe his profile to the coppers? It's not racist.
And calling something gay really isn't offensive. You don't know many gay men if you think that offends them.

Lavery will be useful coming of the bench this season, he's got that bit of pace up top that we're lacking.

As for Hanson, yes Championship is probably beyond his level. But I guarantee you there will be times this season when we're all over teams, needing to get a goal, but just unable to break them down. Going into the last 5 minutes when things start to get desperate, I can't think of many better guys to bring on for the long balls, corners & free kicks.
Or we'll be hanging on to a one goal lead for grim death and we need another big lad in our box to defend a plethora of corners and free kicks.

Every single time you open your stupid mouth, you dig your own grave deeper. Jamal Blackman is black? Really? Thanks for that, you clueless Neanderthal. Nothing offends me more than a thick as shit cunt, especially a thick as shit cunt unashamedly pontificating on a public message board. You definitely are 11 years of age, aren't you? Does your mother know your on her computer?

How boring are you? Yes he is black, and guess what? Chris Basham is white. That. Is. Their. Skin. Colour.
You do realise getting offended on behalf of black people and gay people by stuff that really doesn't offend them is weird don't you?

Nothing offends me more than people who are offended on other peoples behalf. What a sad life you must lead.

Surprised you weren't allover HoodedClaw earlier up this thread, for mentioning the words young, black and hungry to describe a footballer. Closet racism in it's purest form. Disgusting.

Its all about opinions.

Lavery does have ability but he NEARLY puts in a great cross or goes on a great dribble and NEARLY scores.
He has potential but hasn't delivered yet. The jury is still out in him.
The thing with Lavs is that he might be a jack of all trades, master of nothing player.
He's a winger with striker abilities (like Ronaldo) but he's not a great winger and not a great striker.

But to be fair I thought exactly the same regards Leon Clarke.
You can see that Leon clearly has ability and potential
But he often flatters to deceive so the jury was out on him too
But credit to the lad, he started delivering towards the end of last season
And he also had an excellent game against Brentford.

I'm staying patient regards Lavery, he's close to being a good player but not there yet and needs to step up.

What he is close to is being 5th choice, with the inevitable conclusion being exit stage right in the not too distant.

Agree
There's been a cliche used with Lavery all his career you here "he's a young lad with loads of potential to be a really good player". He's been rated at every club he's been at.

The above is true but he's no longer so young, he's coming up to his 25th birthday so he really should be delivering some of that potential by now.

As I said he usually looks quite good to me. Nearly creates a great chance, nearly puts in a great cross, nearly scores, nearly dribbles past a few players. He works hard but consistently just fails to deliver.

He doesn't have poor games but he's rarely ever has really good games.
I agree we might let him go BUT you can imagine him going to a league 2 club and being a world beater.

Hanson stifles our attack most of the time when he plays. And we rarely make proper use of his aerial ability. I don't think there's a place for him in the squad this season, and this team doesn't desperately need a target man option. We have Clarke anyway.

Lavery is unlucky but also frustrates the hell out of me sometimes. He'll look good in cameos but when he gets a proper chance to stake his claim it'll be in difficult circumstances - for example last night he had to play with Hanson and in a poorly performing, unfamiliar team. But then he doesn't help himself by failing to control and keep hold of the ball. Until he sorts this out then he's not going to get in the team. He seems destined to be a nearly man.
He's on the edge of being a good player, and he has such a good combination of attributes so it's all the more frustrating that he can't seem to do the basics consistently enough to give himself the chance to play more often and really kick on.

Which roughly translates as I have got this one wrong as well ;).

But your right about Hanson. A detriment whichever way you hack

We all want our players to do well for our club, I am no different, I have seen all the preseason games and of course last season. The only use for him at the moment is he is a bit quicker than sharp and Leon, to put on for the last ten mins of a game. He isn't all that quick either, I thought he was suposed to be lightning quick when we brought him in. He needs to start showing some kind of goal intent for me, always trying to give the responsibility to someone else, either a pass or knock down. Time will tell I guess, but I feel his time is running out.

There's some Partridge-esque comments from certain people on here

Pretty much how I see it. Probably with more expletives in the Hanson bit :)

There's got to be a loan option out there from the Prem, Joe Lolley seems the one we're linked with but he's a winger these days or a number 10, not a striker.

This view that Hanson single handedly changed our system and season is as baffling as it is laughable.

That we were floundering and he changed us from being weak to being strong. Our "weakness had gone".

We walzed the league. We walzed it pre Hanson and we walzed it post Hanson. His personal impact through ALL of this was limited. Extremely limited.

EEL was used up top for last 5 mins or so on occasion when time was running out. Did the manager see fit to put him up there for longer to provide this vital physical presence you speak of ?

No he didn't.

I won't pull any punches here. Your view (and others) a physical target man is an essential ingredient for success across any level (PL to L2) of English football is as antiquated as it is wrong. To compound matters, when your own sides target man can't control a football, can't pass a football, has a 50 p head all of which leads to possession turnover of 80%+, then it becomes extremely difficult to make a case for either the tactic employed or the player himself.

Hoof n hope no longer has a place. Did you (and others) not get that memo ?

UTB
Well you need to speak to the manager then because he slated his strikers for missing chances and brought in Hanson and we never looked back

Also if you're saying Hanson is a terrible footballer then the manager is a terrible judge of a footballer as he signed him and played him

Or maybe you're just talking shit

Hanson was useful last year, but giving him a long contract was very short sighted. He was never going to be good enough for the championship, he's nowhere near the required standard.

As for Lavery, jury is still out but he needs to sharpen up, his finishing and composure infront of goal are poor. He's learning from Billy and Leon who are two of the best finishers I've seen at the Lane and both brilliant under pressure, Lavery just doesn't seem to have that natural touch. He's useful to bring off the bench but I can't see him scoring many against Championship opposition at all.

In truth, when Leon and Billy are our automatic first choice pair in the Championship you've kinda got to admit we need another striker. No offence to the two, I love them both, but we really need to sign a championship standard striker this window.
How can you say he was never going to be good enough for the championship when we've only played one game and he was not involved through injury ?
